THANK you for posting this Bible record!!! --Re: Judge H. A. Pearce

It was confusing at first as it doesn't say more about the Bible and whose Bible it was from and only begins 1/2 way through the marriage of Sally Eugenia ELLIS (d/o Eliza Ann PEARCE and her husband Thomas Howard ELLIS.

I assume from the note on the bottom stating Judge H.A. Ellis was the cousin of Mrs. W.B. Saunders, etc. --that HIS FATHER was the brother of Eliza Ann PEARCE (Mrs. Ellis).

If my records are correct, she was d/of an Edmund PEARCE and Eliza ALLEN who may have been from VA. They were somehow connected to a Pearce Point Lumber Co. Not sure what that was.

But now that I re-read the Bible posting -- it makes more sense.

It begins with the marriage of Sally Eugenia ELLIS but her name is cut off and not listed and only begins with her spouse --so I had no clue who he was.

Thanks so much.

This is so helpful!

Also--to clarify, it is MCVOY (not McVoy) of Isabella MCVOY of Mobile. who married Daniel Hodges Stickney of MA. Osabella was d/o Major Diego McVoy (spellin in old Spanish records there as "McBoy") and wife, Marie Euphrosine Bousage.

Thanks again.

B.
Is this the Bible of this Judge?

I am confused.

I am working on my McVoy genealogy and this is part of my family. The children listed in this Bible seem to be the ones of Thomas Howard Ellis and his wife Eliza Ann Pearce, d/o Edmund Pearce & Eliza Allen.

It just starts wit W.B. Saunders.

Do you know how he was related to Henry Pearce Ellis who married Augustine "Augusta" Stevenson?

Thanks for any help.

B.
I have a George PEARSE marrying Annie Elizabeth CREBER 1909. District: Tavistock,County Cornwall, DEVON
Annie born in District: Newton Abbot, County: Devon in 1888.
They had a son: THOMAS( TOM) Samuel PEARSE, born 1910, in Walkhampton, Devon. One Genealogy site could only find Thomas using Tavistock ( versus Walkhampton). And Newton Abbot (for Annie was difficult),it's 41 KM from Tavistock so people searching should probably use the latter . Anyone using this message board have access to 1911 UK census? Trying to locate Tom's sister, she was left behind in the UK . George & Amie ( should be Annie ) show up on the 1916 Manitoba Census in BRANDON. Annie died about 1920 . George died ? Their son Thomas( TOM )Samuel Pearse married Sella May MURPHY nee KIDD in 1943 in BRANDON .Tom Pearse died 1974

Pretty confusing with all of these similar names. A recent trip to Camelford by my Sister revealed some interesting tidbits found locally. Can't list everything here. This is a quick listing I have (not fully verified)

Warwick Guy Pearse 1886-1947 My Great Uncle

Warwick Guy Pearse 1845-1930 Great Grandfather - First to emigrate to Canada. I have the Ship Registry. "Peruvian" to Quebec 11-09-1870.

Warwick Guy Pearse 1808-1861 etc. Camelford Alderman and Mayor. Buried under floor of Lanteglos Church. I have the headstone photos. Married Nannie West.

Robert Pearse 1784-1854 Married Grace Guy 1780-1845. This is where the Guy/Pearse link begins I believe. I have the Guys to 1570 (or so I think)

Thomas Pearse ?

Robert Pearse ?

Congratulations on a very thorough job of reconstructing this family tree. I had thought a number of years ago that I was related to this family as my great grandfather was Charles John Pearse and my grandfather Godfrey Pearse. But I have since ascertained that before those two, were Brice Pearse and six Godfrey Pearses from Heddington Wiltshire.
Have you ever considered having your DNA tested? There is a Pierce DNA project split north and south in the USA. However it presently is only concerned with the male DNA and the Y-chromasome in particular(passed only through the male line).Try contacting "Brad Pierce".

I am a descendant of George Godfrey Pearse's younger brother Charles John Pearse ... I have recently constructed a Pearse ancestral diagram on the basis of the information given in George Godfrey Pearse's book, though I suspect it on some points. See http://blogs.cf.ac.uk/brodbecksp/resource/Pearsetree2.pdf ... I would be interested to see other Pearse family trees, and to hear any other opinions as to the veracity of George Godfrey Pearse's reconstructions.

I am responding to your posting regarding Warwick Guy Pearse. I have the Pearse book and I have been researching the ancestry of the Pearse. In the book it talks about Mark Guy Pearse (Methodidst minister) and he is the father of Warwick Guy. Mark Guy Pearse born: 1811 at St. Endellion, Cornwall, England; Warwick Guy born: unknown date but died 1861. Frank Pearse was my great grandfather and his father was John Worth - the emigrated to New Zealand from England. I have not been able to figure out how we are related to Mark Guy and would like to know more. The Pearse book was written and published by Hyrum Bristow Wheelwright who married Ruby Pearse, my great aunt.

I am Robin Pearse Wheatley, grandson of Edward Pearse Wheatley who was the son of the Rev. Timothy WCeatley and Ann Pearse.I have a family tree going back several hundred years. The Pearse's are armigerous according to the Royal College of Arms, they say of Davistow, but I suspect of Hall in Devon. I don't think the tree is on line yet but I would be delighted if someone would type it in. The Sercombe family site is useful.

Joanna Jane Pearse was born in Cornwall in 1827 or 1828, emmigrated to Australia on the Fairlie in 1837, married Samuel Bray in 1844 in Bathurst NSW and died in 1904. Her death certificate gives her mother's name as Lane, but this may be an error on the part of the informant her son John - his other grandmother was Joanna Lane. A public tree here gives Joanna Jane's mother as Grace Sargent. I'd be pleased to hear from anyone who can confirm this.

There is a family of Pearses who can be traced to Plympton St Mary's just east of Plymouth in the 16th century. This family, which is not my own, had both doctors and naval officers in the 19th century. There is a book in the British library written by General George Godfrey Pearse in 1897 on his family. They went to Ireland with King "Billy" to Cork and Dublin and Dr George Pearse(1797-1885) came back to Cheltenham.
Maybe this will be of use to you.
Frank Scott-Pearse

Their names were Agnes Maud Pearse and Amy Kathleen Pearse.

When he married Margaret Brady, they had four children - Padraig, William, Margaret Mary Pearse (who later became a Senator), and Mary Bridget Pearse.

From my information, none of Margaret and James' children had any children, so that side of the family all died out.

Hi Trevor,

I just came across your post now.

I am a descendant of James Pearse (born in Bloomsbury, London, in 1839). My name is Brendan Scarlett (my great grandmother was Florence Pearse, and she married a Scarlett, hence the surname change). I have researching the life and times of James Pearse, and I've found that he was living in London in 1841 (as per the 1841 Census). According to subsequent census records, he moved to Birmingham and lived there until his first wife, Susannah Emily Pearse (née Fox) died (circa 1876). He then moved to Ireland, where he married Margaret Pearse (mother of Padraig and William Pearse), and became a sculptor for the Catholic church. Apparently he converted to Catholicism before he moved to Ireland, but I can't locate any church records to prove his conversion. I can confirm that he did indeed die whilst visiting his brother in Birmingham, although I wasn't sure which brother until I read your post (there are 2 brothers listed throughout the census records I dug up).

I would be more than happy to provide any other info you might find useful.

Regards

Brendan Scarlett

I am looking for any information on John Pearse, b. 1815, Hatherleigh, Devon to John Pearse and Elizabeth Ellacott. John appears on the 1841 Devon census, living on Tuckers Essworthy with his uncle and several of his siblings. No further trace of him has been found. He may have emigrated to Ontario, Canada.
