Moses & Martha (UC?)Peasley & relationship to Sarah Finlayson

Hello-

I am the great grand niece of Sarah Finlayson, born in Canada in abt 1817. She died in 1906 I believe, in MN. She was mother to William Finlayson and I believe was widowed young having just two children William & Catherine. Her spouse was from Scotland and she came to the states around 1851 I believe.

She & Catherine/Katherine spent the late 1800's living with Moses & Martha Peasley in Rice County, MN and when Moses died around 1870 she continued on with Martha until her death.

Martha was listed as born in 1840 in Canada and her father was from Scotland. I am trying to sort out the relationship between these women. I believe Sarah & Martha may have been sisters or half sisters? I don't have any maiden names though so I'm a bit stymied.

Grateful for any insights anyone may have to offer.
Best Diane

Seeking information on family of William A. POLEN and Bertha PEASLEY

William A. KELLAR (1875-1954) was the son of William A. Kellar and Catherine Vonloria POLEN. He was born in Harrison Co., IA and where he died is unknown. William Kellar married Bertha PEASLEY in 1898. Bertha was born in 1882 and died unknown. William and Bertha had 4 children: one was born and died before 1910; Carrol W., a son, was born in 1901 in IA (probably Harrison Co.); Francis C., a daughter, was born in 1906; and Clara, a daughter, was born in 1911. In 1913, William, Bertha and their three surviving children moved to Maple Creek, Saskatchwan, CANADA where the family farmed. The are listed in the 1900 and 1910 census for Harrison Co., IA, U.S.A; and in the 1916 Canadian census for Saskatchwan, Manitoba and Alberta.

Where did the family go AFTER 1916?

Where did William Kellar die and where is he buried?

Who were the parents of Bertha Peasley? Where was she born; when and where did she die?

Who did the three surviving children marry (if anyone); where did they live (and die); and what did they do for a living?

Willing to share information?

The POLENs are one of my wife families and I am seeking to identify the descendants of William Wheeler Polen and his two wives.

Bill Muller
muller1938@gmail.com

Hello there,
My name is Nathan Hanford, I am the grandson of Thomas Melle 1929-2004 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
He was the son of Thomas E Melle 1897-1982 and Lucy A Peaslee 1897-1977 my great grandparents both of whom were alive when I was born and Thomas (Poppy) I was quite close with. I miss him so and think of him I every time I eat an oreo cookie.
My uncle Peter Melle recently passed away and it has clicked something in me to get our family history in order.
It is a mess.
I was wondering if you might know more than I.

I am hoping I am on the right track in thinking that Lucy was the daughter of Robert Peaslee born in 1859 and Grace Stickles 1874-1956.
The census info and birth and death dates seem to confuse me with Robert so I can't be sure of his parentage.

Do you think this line leads to Jephthah Peaslee?

Any information you can give me, even if it is that I am on the wrong track is greatly appreciated.

Kindly,
Nathan Hanford

ntbruckle@gmail.com
55 Quilter Street
London, E2 7BS
United Kingdom.

Also, my Mother's older brother was a WW1 Veteran and his name was Millard Peasley. Millard was very tall for that time. If this sounds familiar, drop me a line. Tom Frieburg

Peasley from Samstead

I have a great-great grandmother, mahala Peasley, married in Fitch Bay, Quebec, and from Samstead to Joseph Saboll in 1892. Witnesses were H. Wheeler and Hattie Saboll. The couple moved to Lowell Massachusetts, anglicized the last name to Sayball, and had several children: Howard, Orren, Oral (my great-grandfather) Hattie etc. Anyone know which Sabolls Joseph comes from, and which Peasleys (or Peaslee) Mahala comes from. They are listed as Methodists, which i imagine is part of why they changed their French canadian surname

Peasleys in area of Stanstead, Quebec, Canada

I have just found it documented that Lydia Peasley married my ancestor Thomas Filer in 1799 in Stanstead, Quebec, Canada.
The book "Forests and Clearings" by Hubbard lists only
Silas Peaslee as having immigrated to the Stanstead area by 1796.
There is much information in the Lower Canada Land Petitions. Silas did come from New Hampshire, but in an April, 1795 petition he is listed as currently living in Vermont but wanting to settle in Bolton. (near Stanstead)
Other Peasley/;Peaslee individuals who applied for land grants prior to 1800 were David, Francis, John, Moses, Peter, Philip, Jonathan, and Nicholas. In addition, there was a Jedediah who was an early settler.
It becomes very unclear who may have been the father of Lydia.
In 1827, a Betsy Filer married Moses Thuston in Hatley. There are no other known Filers in the area, so I believe she must have been a daughter of Thomas and Lydia.
Can anyone add anything to this information from the Peasley family history ?

My brother has been over to England, Scottland and Ireland and the name is like Smith over there.
Peasley, Peaslee research

I have, in my posession, most of The Peasley Papers, published from 1971 through 1991 by Frederick Lamphere in Indianapolis, indiana. This line is traced fairly thoroughly through the PEASLEE/PEASLEY, BLOOD and HALE lines back to the 1600s. These papers are specifically written for and about the descendants of Almond White PEASLEY. If anyone would like for me to look up any information from them, I would be happy to.

Also, I am trying to locate a copy of "A Passel O' Peasleys", also edited by Frederick Lamphere around 1980. If anyone knows where I can get ahold of this family history (3 volumes, I believe), I would be interested in purchasing a copy.

ptilda@hotmail.com
Re: Nancy Linton Peasley

Do you know what happened to Martha and Thomas Davidson, the youngest children of Reuben F. and Lucy (Peaseley) Davidson? They went to live with Gabriel and Caroline Peaseley after Reuben and Lucy died in 1846 in Cumberland Co., VA. I understand that a Nancy Peaseley was taking care of Reuben and Lucy while they were sick with fever, and she also died from it as a result. Do you have any idea what happened to Thomas and Martha? Did they also go to Richmond?

Reuben was a brother of the Judith Davidson who was the second wife of the older Gabriel B. Peaseley. Their parents were Philemon and Mary Davidson, and Philemon's parents were Hezekiah and Tabitha (Childers) Davidson. When Hezekiah died (about 1793), Tabitha remarried to the older Gabriel. When Tabitha died, Gabriel remarred to Judith Davidson.

It appears that Reuben married the the daughter of his own grandmother (Lucy Peaseley was the daughter of Gabriel and Tabitha). It also appears that Gabriel eventually married the granddaughter of his former wife Tabitha (Judith Davidson was the daughter of Philemon and Mary Davidson, and Philemon was the son of Hezekiah and Tabitha).

I have not determined the maiden name of Mary, the wife of Philemon Davidson, but later "unexpected or "unusual"" first or middle names used for the descendants of Reuben F. Davidson included Eli, Banton, Archer and Fulton. Comments?
