Asa Wright Pelham

I am looking for any information on Asa Wright Pelham
He was born in 1824 in Dallas County Alabama. In 1950 he was living in Guadalupe Texas and married Polly Anna Wiesinger. He moved to Grapeland Texas where he was buried in Parker cemetery.

Wow! Let me tell you what I think I know and we can try to sort things out.

It's my belief Elisha is the father to Joseph M.(of Panola County Tx), Thomas E. (of Athens/Henderson County Tx) and John B (of McLennan County, Tx - later moved to FL.) This would have been in the 1840s to 1870s era. From what I found Elisha lived in Dallas County, Ga. around 1820s to 1840s.

I haven't seen a record of JB in the Athens area.

You make a reference to an O.Pelham kids. Now that interest me. John B Pelham had two daughters Olephia and Virginia. I think that Olephia married George Parish and Virginia married George's brother. They all moved to FL. around 1870 to 1880.

If you can show that Elisha and Asa Wright are kin, I would be really excited! That would be a connection that I had never thought about.

I know that Elisha Pelham was living in Henderson County for a while and was also living in Athens Texas with JB. I also know that he was a relative of Asa Wright Pelham, but I do not know how. John M Pelham was the a son of Asa's who had Atmar who gave birth to Larry (my father-law). Atmar stated that John told him that all the Pelham's in Texas were related and that all the ones in east texas were cousins(don't know how). Asa came to Texas with either two brothers or two cousins. No one could really quite put there finger because over the years it was a little confusing. Atmar did visit his cousins in Athens and ones living north of Henderson until they moved. I believe the ones in Athens was JB, (O. Pelham kids). Atmar also stated that his father John M. went with Polly Anna and Asa to west texas to live for a year. It was the first time his father really remembered riding on was on a train. They went to work on Asa's relatives farm (again not sure how they are related).

I see that it has been about 10 years since your previous post, but I was looking for information for my son and found your post. I was married to George Drayton Pelham, son of George Ruben Pelham. His is one of the sons from George's first marriage. George had 2 sons from a marriage to Dorthy (Dot). I believe your grandmother would be Martha Pelham. I met them once or twice before George passed away. He wasn't close with the boys, but my ex-husband did make the effort to visit him on occasion.

George Pelham who married Madeline Scollin on 17 Sep 1923 died on 10 Feb 1931. He and Madeline had one son born about 1928. I spoke with their son about ten years ago.

I found George in the WWI draft registration papers. He was living in Norwalk. In the 1920 census he was living in Norwalk with his stepmother. In 1930 he was living in Bridgeport.

I was interested in the Scollin side of his family and so don't have any information about the Pelhams. Hope this helps.

My mother's maiden name was Ruby Lee Pelham. She grew up in FL panhandle and Southern AL. I was told by an uncle Emmett Barber that some of her Pelham family were in Tampa, FL area. A few names I have are Lillie Mae Pelham married to Boss Carter. Evelyn Cannady in Lakeland, FL area.Jerry Carter, Don Carter, Lena Carter children of Boss and Lillie Mae. Very interesting. Actually, the Nigel Pelham I'm refering to married a Winifred Wylde and moved to california where he passed in 1950. It seems there was more than one Nigel who married a Winifred:)

I believe my dad, Nigel, was an only child so am intrigued as to why you think he may be a brother?
Nigel's mother was Winifred Pelham Benning.
The geographical connections are India, England and Europe, specifically Switzerland & France, and latterly South Africa.

I'm pretty new to this as well. My father Lloyd Pelham was born in Missouri. I don't much else as records from that time and era are pretty spotty. His fathers name was Harry Pelham. If this leads to anything please let me know. Happy hunting.

I am looking for information on the parents of John Francis Pelham and George Joseph Pelham (1889- ) from Connecticut. John Pelham married Margaret Bridget McCann but they separated at some point. George married Madeline Scollin. The brothers were in the Fairfield County Home for Destitute Children during the 1900 Census but I haven't been able to find any other information.

If anyone has any information related to either brother, I would greatly appreciate it!

I am decendent from from Jessie Pelham and Margaret Culp through their daughter Dianah Pelham who married Wesley King. My GG grandfather was Joseph Green King. I was born Tollie Jack King but adopted by Scholten.

This is my family. Some of this is information that I put on here, especially about William Wiley Carter & Vera Elizabeth Pellam. Their daughter Quincy Elizabeth CARTER is my Grandmother. About the Snow Creek, I have seen it called Crow Creek. I talked to a cousin that is descended from them & lives in that area, & she called it Crow Creek.

Have we corresponded before? I think I have corresponded before with a Jack Scholten.

I found the 1870 census, but he is 35 in 1870. They are living in same area as the rest my the Pellam/Pelham
family & my Prince family.Also the Lynchs are there & Packs all related somehow.I'll look some more on Ancestry later,maybe tomorrow. There has to be a connection here.

I see 1870 Frank Pelham age 25 born in TN in Franklin Co., TN census. Josephine was 23 b. GA, kids Mary J. age 4, John S. 2 and Wm. D 4/12 Was this Josia/Joseph's Dad Frank.

His Father was William Pelham who fought in the Civil War and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. His Mother was Susanna McCracken. John Pelham (or Pellham), Jr. b. 1848 MO - on 1880 AR census

I'd like to find out what happened to the John Pellham, Jr. family. On the 1880 census, John was living next door to his parents, John and Susan Legg Pellham (or Pelham) in Newton County, Arkansas. Obviously, the family had lived in Texas for part of their lives, but I can't find any of them after the 1880 census. Does anyone have information about this family? Thanks.
