I am seeking information about the Pembroke family of Philadelphia. My great great grandmother was Mary Pembroke Carpenter who came from Kilkenny Ireland in the 1840s when she was a child. She had at least one sister named Margaret and a brother James. Mary married William Carpenter. Margaret married Thomas Wallace aka Edward Wells, and Andrew Toland. James married Katherine McKenna. I would like to find some more descendents out there.

My grandfather was James Stack Pembroke and I think that Charles Herbert Stack Pembroke was his father or uncle. I know a little about the Pembrokes as I was also born one! There is another member of the family who has done a LOT of research into the family name and I could put you in touch if you like. How are you related to Charles H S Pembroke?

We too have come across various spellings of Pembroke. Pembrook. Pembrooke, Pembruck...and some weird ones like Penrick. We have burial records from Cathedral Cemetery and death records too. James Pembroke had three sons who married and two daughters who probably did not. Still a lot of questions too. James must be your 3rd Great Grandfather. I think. But please contact us as we have a lot of information to share with you.
(Bill) geneoman2003@aol.com or (Sue) suebuy@aol.com

He and my grandmother Anna McCloskey had 15 children. Eleven remain, mostly in the Philadelphia region. Recently discovered that "Pembroke" was, on my grandfather's birth certificate, "PEMBROOK."

We have traced the Carpenter family and found that Mary Pembroke married William Henry Carpenter in 1860 in Philadelphia. Some of the baptismal records show a James Pembroke as a godfather and census records show that James Pembroke lived on the same street as the Carpenters. However, we cannot find if they had the same parents, although we assume that Mary and James were siblings, we have no proof. James' death record shows his father was Edward. But Mary's death record, a few years earlier does not have that information. Also, should we find any descendents, we would be happy to share the information we have. Thank you so much for replying.

I'm thinking there must be a link somewhere given the common use of first names match directly to my Pembroke line. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten anything past my Gr.Granddad's parent's names, John Pembroke and Anastatia (McDonald)Pembroke. Other surnames that appear to be related and from the Kilkenny area are Meagher, Hanlon, and Davis.

I am researching Pembrokes who came from Kilkenny Ireland and lived in Philadelphia. There was Mary Pembroke...born Nov 1843 in Kilkenny. Came to Philly as a young girl...she married William Carpenter in 1860. They had several children: Mary (McCready), William, Rachel, Maggie, George and Jenny (Gibbs). She died in Philadelphia in 1901 and is buried in Magnolia Cemetery. Mary had a brother (or cousin) named James Pembroke who married Katherine McKenna (also born in Ireland) in Philadelphia in the 1870s. Their children were William, Anna, John (married Mary), Kate, Edward. Katherine died in 1903 and James died in 1916. They are buried at Old Cathedral Cemetery. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Married Elizabeth Murphy at Long Island N.Y.
They had children but they died in infancy except MARY .
Unusually for the time they returned to Ireland . Reasons may be the infants' deaths or to acquire land inherited . No clear proof .Both died in the 1940s.
They had however more children including a son Leonard who died tragically in 1932 aged 22.
If you can add anything or you have queries don't hesitate to contact me .Dick "Pembroke"Cahill

Richard,
I have a little more info but can't link our lines yet. My grgrandfather, Edward Pembroke, was son of John Pembroke & Anastatia McDonald. He had 3 siblings: Catharine (b 1860s) Carina Mary (b 1855) and Thomas (birth unknown). Edward & Catharine emigrated in 1888; Carina in 1874. I have cousin names associated with records: Meagher, Davis, and Hanlon. Carina belonged to the Sisters of Charity order when she emigrated to US. Any info is appreciated if you have it. Am having hardest time getting any links in Ireland.

John's children were Carina Mary, Catharine, Edward and Thomas. Would love any leads on how to find the Irish side.

In fact, he married her the evening after he had buried Jarusha Titus, his first wife, in the morning!

This Thomas Campbell was my 4X grandfather so would love to share info.
I want to thank Margaret for her recent help. Now I am asking others to help me. I know have the name of my ggggrandmother, her name was Margaret (Maggie) (?) Foley b.1844 New Brnswick (Maine or Canada). She was still living in Eastport, Maine in 1880 census. Who was her husband? Thanks to Margaret I have their children, but not their father's name.

Also still trying to locate info on a George W. Foley (possible brother to the ? Foley above). According to info I have, George W. Foley and Josephine Savier adopted my ggrandfather. I know that his parents were Fred Foley b.1864 in Fort Kent, Maine and Ethel Nadeau b. Canada. Unless there is a misprint of birth date for Fred, he was only 13 when he fathered Maxim Charles Foley b. 1877. Fred's age tells me why his son was adopted.

I sure would appreciate any help I can get.
Frances

My Grandma was born in Netherend Woolaston and her birth was registered in Chepstow Glous in 1924. Her parents were Theodore Charles Pembro and Jessie Stephens. Don't worry about the spelling being different as our ancestors weren't too hot at spelling most of them signed their names as x and hardly any of them could write. I do have some history for Pembro's and other close soundalikes so please do get in touch and we will see if we can make a connection!
