I am not a Pena; however my grandmother was Fidela Carrion Cazarette and her mother's name was Dolores Cazarette. Do you know if Sara Teofila had a sister by the name of Fidela, who I believe was born in Maunabo or Juncos, PR. You may send me an e-mail on Facebook to Doreen Perez Archilla.

Thank you!

Re: Pena from Mesa Grande

my greatgrandmother and her three sisters lived with their aunt and uncle, jose joaquin pena and his wife ramona {conchith} pena. I found she had a different maiden name but I can't find it. The pena's had 5 or 6 childern, I can't remember all their names that I found on the census for 1880 they were the following, jose dolores 18, maria isabel 13, maria 8, maria augustin 5, brigido 4, pasqula 3,and alberto 8 mos. at the end it had my greatgrandmother's name as veleriana 15, I ffound about five different spellings for her name. then her sisters were Miraido 16, maria marta 6. Later there was my grantmother's cousin down as stella {pena} gordon, she was married to fred gordon.also they had another brother felix,if yor interested I have my greatgrandmother's marraige certifcate I have to find it. apparently her maiden name was Quilpa, also different spellings for that name. Im so confused my grandfather Tom head was a cousin of the pena's childern, but I was told my grandmother virginia {estrada} head was their cousin also. I found that my great uncle martin estrada lived on Mesa grande, he had a wife but unable to find her name. martin died in the middle 1950's, about ten years ago I went up to Mesa Grande and talk to a gentleman I think his name was mark romero. I never heard back from him. I found the Quilpa's were from the Warner's area. After the 1880 census my greatgrandmother lived at capitan grande until they sold the reservation. Oh there was a cllend Gilbert that was jose and Ramoma's grandson, I think he passed away at a early age.I would really like to find my greatgrandmother's sisters descendents, there was no last name for them on the census. I started my family research after losing my dad in 1992, I needed to fill the lost in my heart, which I haven't yet. hope your able to help. I found the census when jose joaquin was a ltlle boy, he had alot of siblings. Thank you for answering my entry, it was very much appreciated.
michelene

Obituary: Dominga Pena Alvirdez-Castillo

Our beloved mother Dominga was received into the arms of the Lord on May 24, 2011 surrounded by her family and loved ones at 8:28 p.m. after receiving the last rites by Father Ignacio of St. Rita's Catholic Church. Our mother died very peacefully and tranquil with a single tear in one eye without any reservation due to her deep faith and it was a special moment to see her take her last breath on this earth and starting her eternal life. Born in 1924 in Rodey, New Mexico to Felix and Refugia Pena, Dominga migrated to California in the late 1930's. She married the love of her life Tony M. Alvidrez until death departed them in 1995 after 53 years of marriage. Our mother was fortunate to find a second love in her life when she met and married Richard Castillo and enjoyed nearly 10 wonderful years until death departed them on May 24, 2011. He was her constant companion, never left her side in sickness and in health and they enjoyed many good times. To Richard we will be eternally grateful for his constant attention and companionship he and his family showed our mother. Mom enjoyed many good times but foremost in her life was church on Sundays and days of obligation, receiving the Eucharist each and every Sunday. Then off to the casino to enjoy an afternoon of gambling. She also enjoyed bingo and visiting with family and friends and staying in contact with her sister-in-laws: Barbara Dailey, Vera Alvidrez, Tomasa Enriquez, Mary Pena and Anne Pena; former son-in-law Charles Garcia and former daughter-in-laws: Josefina Dinis, Carol Alvarez, Karen Manning, Mary Torrez and Alicia with whom she kept in contact with throughout the years. Dominga was preceded in death by three infant children, first born Anthony, third born Frank David and Ruth her last child; her parents: Felix and Refugia Pena, brothers: Andres, Mike, Redustino, Sefrino, Lupe, Patricio and Juan Pena. Beloved sisters: Florencia (Lencha) Arzola, and Elenora (Lena) Quinonez. She is survived by her husband, Richard Castillo and was blessed with five surviving children: Gilbert (Virgie) of Sacramento, Arthur (Clair), Bernadette Torrez (John), Tony Jr. and Larry Alvidrez all of Tulare and step-son Pete Alvidrez (Ermalinda) of Manteca; 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Immediate family viewing will be held 12 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday May 31st and family and friends from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday. Rosary & Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 1st at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 954 So. O St., Tulare with burial following at Tulare District Cemetery. A special thanks to all who prayed with and for our mother and mom "You take a piece of our hearts with you til we meet again." Love, your family.

Published in Visalia Times-Delta and Tulare Adv-Register on May 28, 2011
Frenando S Pena POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Live Oak County, TX as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: Frenando S Pena*
Born: 1926 Hispanic
Date of loss: 1 December 1950 KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I would like to invite anyone in the Pina/Pena/Pigman (and other variations of the spelling) to look at and hopefully participate in the genetic genealogy study at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/pina/results. This study and the Pena study is very interesting. My results are posted there and it seems as though the families are related.

The facts seem to be that the Pigna (silent g) family (Italian) were located in Italy, France and northern Spain at various times.

If anyone is interested in discussing this subject please contact me. I will try to answer any questions you may have about the families' origins or questions about the y-dna tests or studies.
Thanks,
Curtis Pigman
http//curtisnsissy.tripod.com

Honestly he does not know too much. He said that any time his father took him around the store that he would make them stay in car so that they were not seen. The Rafaela I am looking for would have also had a son named Eulogio. My grandfather was born in San Antonio and was baptized at 2 years old at a church there. He grew up on a street called Aldo place. I would love to show him a picture and see if he remembers it. I currently live in Georgia and my grandparents in Dallas. I will be moving back there next week. So I will be able to actually sit with him and show him everything... we have just been talking on the phone.
So You are thinking Julio and his wife Rafaela may have had a son named Leonide who is your great grandfather?

I am sitting looking at a picture of the store as I type. does he remember anything about what the store looked like? was there a house on the property.

and have brought up the tree but I know there are so many holes in it yet. Leonide would have been born when? or when was your grandfather born....his name

and by any chance were they Baptist? as that is rather an odd thing for hispanics in San Antonio but some of my family is.

My grandfather is not for sure but he thinks the store is around Perez street. I am not so sure if we are describing the same Pena family though. This Rafaela would have had a son named Leonides as well. Let me know if that sounds familier. Thanks for answering my reply though.

Since the original message was posted I have learned a lot. Rafaela and Jula Pena did have a grocery store in San Antonio. They had several children. My great grandmother Luz was the oldest. Marcos, whose son is still in San Antonio , Jose who seems to have lived rather wildly all over. He has family in Michigan and Ohio and ..well maybe you? The three younger sisters never married..

any help? maf54@sbcglobal.net or maf54@juno.com

Hi I have a Rafaela Pena in my family tree who originated from Mexico. She would be my grandfather's paternal grandmother. My grandfather was born in San Antonio, and remembers that his fathers family store in which he believes his father family owned. I am wondering if there is any connection. Any info would be helpful
