I am looking for any information on Anna Bell Edgington, orn 03 March 1851 and died 28 September 1908 in Manchester, Ohio. She was married to William Henry Pence, born 02 March 1845, Sprigg Twsp, Adams, Ohio and died, 05 November 1916, Sprigg Twsp, Adams, Ohio. At first I thought she was Anna Belle Means, but her children's death certificates list her as Anna Belle Edgington. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pence Immigration Origins

There's a lot of great info on the Pence line. However, my Pence line hit a brick wall. Dozens of us have worked on this over the course of the last 50 years, I suppose. Hoping someone might know...

Perhaps the following two family lines are the same, and family tradition has the facts wrong:

Family Tradition:
1. Daniel Pentz (b.1780) m. Catherine Chase (both from Greene Co, PA and stayed there)
2. Son: Robert Daniel Pence (he went by Daniel), b. 1819 in PA. Married Jane Fisher (Greene Co, OH), then moved to IA.

Genealogical records:
1. Daniel Pence (b. 1760) m. Catherine Prince (both from VA, moved to Greene Co, OH)
2. Son Daniel Pence, b. 1805. No record of where he went or who he married.

Unfortunately, a lot of Pence's moved to Greene County Ohio about the same time (1805-1820), so there's some confusion. Also note the confusion on Greene County. Tradition has Daniel Pentz from Greene County, PA. Could it actually be about Greene County, OH? If so, it would strengthen the argument.

Susan Pence of Virginia

I am looking for info re: my great grandmother, Susan Pence Brown Franklin Hancock.

I believe she was born abt. 1834 in Va. She died 1884 and is buried in Craig C.,Va.

She was married to an Unknown Brown between 1850-1860, an Unknown Franklin between 1860-1870, and Stephen Andrew Hancock in 1873.

She had children by all three men, all of whom, including my grandmother, Florence Belle (Franklin) Hancock Craft, were adopted by Stephen Hancock.

She is NOT the daughter of Catherine Bower and Phillip Pence of Mt. Jackson, Shenandoah Co, Va., although she is listed as such on some web sites. That Susan Pence was born, married (to a Mr. Foltz), died, and was buried in Shenandoah Co, Va. I have verified this with a member of the Pence family, who has extensive research and documentation.

Any help identifying my great grandmother and/or my biological great grandfather would be most appreciated.

On edit, 16Jun2011: I now have reason to believe that Susan was not married to either an unk Brown or unk Franklin, and that all of the children were most likely fathered by Stephen Andrew Hancock, to whom she was married in 1873.

I did my initial application to the SAR through Michael Sisler, and am interested in doing a supplemental application through Peter Pence, but, I was wondering what documentation existed his family, specifically, his daughter Rachel who is married to Michael Sisler being his daughter.

I believe if someone has already joined the SAR or DAR through this line it makes it much easier.

Ceremony honoring Mary Smith Pence’s father, American Revolutionary War Veteran Jacob Smith

On Saturday June 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. the Sons of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution and descendants will mark the grave of American Revolutionary soldier, Jacob Smith, at the Jollett Cemetery, Jollett Hollow, Page County (just over the Rockingham line). This will be a large ceremony, with Colonial guard, gun salute and all the bells and whistles. All are welcome to attend. . . . especially descendants. A number of descendants are coming from across the United States.

Jacob was born 1759/60; died August 16, 1836; married Winnifred/Winney/Winna Smith (yes, maiden name was also Smith) in Rockingham in 1782; served 3 years and 5 days in Gabriel Long's 11th Virginia Regiment of Riflemen and was one of 2,000 troops commanded by Gen. George Washington at the Battle of Trenton (memorialized in the famous painting of Washington Crossing the Delaware) and the Battle of Princeton. Also fought in the Battle of Saratoga.

Jacob and Winna had 6 children (recorded in family Bible):

Thank you for responding - my dad was born on June 14, 1922, Died on 8/21/89. His parents were Helen McHenry (Born, 3/31/1901) and William LeLand Pence (Born 9/14/1896.) I am also interested in knowing who William LeLand's Parents were and dates.

Hey there! Always nice to meet other family members:) I do have the family chart for the yates side. Red was my Grandfather's grandfather. My line goes like this: Red, his oldest son Edward Burton 'Burt as he was called', Hugh (Burt's oldest), Carolyn (She is the the youngest and married a Maestretti), then myself.

I have pictures of the graves stones at the Hot Springs Cemetary where Red is burried. If you want, I can email them to you. Every year we try to make the Strickland/Wilson reunion and keep in touch with everyone from Bruneau.

I believe Elizabeth Pence Cooper's parents were Samuel Pence and Catherine Stoner; however, I'm still looking for proof. Samuel & Catherine Pence appear in 1850 with a daughter Elizabeth of the appropriate age and she is the only Elizabeth I can find born abt. 1830 in Lawrence County.

As far as I know at this point in my research, Samuel Pence did not have a sister Margaret.

Was your Pence family from Lawrence or Butler Counties PA?

I haven't been able to find any of her history prior to her marriage to John Slagle. Do you know if your Elizabeth's father had a sister Margaret? Her DOB is 3/5/1803. I have an Elizabeth Pence born about 1830 in Lawrence County, PA. She married Robert Cooper of Butler County. I believe Elizabeth's parents are Samuel Pence and Catherine Stoner, but I can't find proof. Samuel & Catherine appear in 1850 living in N. Slippery Rock, Lawrence County, PA and they have a daughter Elizabeth of the appropriate age.

I posted a message previously with information that Elizabeth's father was James Pence of Scotland, but I now believe that isn't correct.

If anyone has information about this family I would appreciate hearing from you.
