Greetings,Would it be possible to have you contact me to discuss some of the information you did not want to disclose in public? I am supposedly descended from a daughter of William Penn through the Grindrod family originating in Conway Wales. (pure coincidence with my family name on the Conway Wales)

My grandpa Charles Melvin Penn is 81 yrs young, born on Hunters Hill, Alleghany Co, Virgina but raised and still living in Amherst county, Buffalo ridge, Stonewall Mill area and he said that his granddaddy use to tell him when he was a little boy, that if you keep digging and go far enough back, that you will find that we got that surname given to us by William Penn when they migrated over, and got mixed in with our tribe, and he says thats whats been passed down in our family for generations... He also says to research someone by the name Walter Ashby Plecker was unassuming in appearance: a small-town doctor whose penchant for number-crunching earned him the position of registrar in Virginias Bureau of Vital Statistics in 1912. But appearances were indeed deceiving. With Plecker at the helm, the bureau went on an all-out war against "amalgamation". He tried to wipe out the Indians from that point by changing the race or putting a different race on all records...Blessings... Tsi's'qua

I have recently discovered that my 5 x gt grandfather was William Penn, born 1772 in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire, England. There has been a story in my family for years that we were also direct descendants of William Penn. I have got no further with my research into finding his parents but if you have any information I'd be grateful to know of it.

So, how do these Penns from Ohio connect to the Benjamin Penn and Richard Penn and Sarah Penn DuVall from Broad Top, Pennsylvania. They went to Pennsylvania with Jeremiah DuVall, Sarah's husband, and are listed in the 1790 Bedford, Pa. census, but, can not find anything more about the Penn "boys" as they are referred to. Although Sarah is buried in Bedford County along with Jeremiah. Did they go to Ohio from Pa. or did they go back home to Maryland? They were from Anne Arundel Co., Md.
Does anyone have info?

I have never seen a mention of Beverly in any charts. John Turner Penn does not appear either. Rawley or Rolly Penn either. Martha and her family were from Patrick County Virginia and moved to Covington, Louisiana in the early 1800's. She married Paris Constantine Childress and eventually moved to New Orleans, around the 1840's where he practiced law. She and all of her children are buried in New Orleans with their wives and/or husbands. I am sorry that I was not a positive help to you in your quest.

Charlie

I'm fairly sure William Chandler Penn married Elizabeth Dent 1732-1753. But several places show old WC's dates to be 1730 to 1847, which would have made him 117 years old at his death. That's highly questionable. I'm not at all sure about his mother and father and anywhere further down the line. Anyone else have a clue?

Jim Hargrove, originally from Birmingham, AL Sarah F Penn 1859-1937 was my grandmother.

Dan Penn living in Cherokee County Alabama during 1885

I am searching for information for Dan Penn who was living in Cherokee County Alabama around July of 1885. I suspect that he was a teenager at the time.

While researching a branch of my family in the probate records in Cherokee County, I found court records where Dan was arrested with a Van Langley (15 at that time: maybe) and a Will Garrison (9 at the time).

If anyone who reads this is related to the Dan Penn mentioned in the court records, I'll be happy to forward the information and reference data to you.

Thank you for your time.

I think that you will probably find something in the great
bibliotheque of Utha. In the town ''Salt lake city''.
I am presently at Penn's landing marina Tortolla and I find this subject very interesting. Thimothy Penn that I met last week told me that his ancerters come from Pensylvany.
William Penn was the foundator of the town of Pennsylvany.
He was British, a good man and made goods thincks for his country. I know that he ad a mission in the Caraibes after
the American War. See what you can find about him and see the bibliotheque there is the solution. Good luck.

Would like to know any information about Alice Penn, alledgedly born in England 1563, had a daughter (Phoebe) in Germany (Rotterdam?) and died in Plymouth, Mass in 1632. She was married to a John Powers. If this info is correct I think they might have been one of those puritan families who escaped to Holland/Germany and then later came across to America, possibly on the 2nd or 3rd Mayflower voyage. Have been unable to discover any truth in this theory.

Penn/op den Graeff connections

William Penn's maternal grandmother, Alet Pletjes was the sister of Greitjin Pletjes. Greitjin married Herman op den Graeff, the grandfather of the 3 op den Graeff brothers who helped settle Germantown Pennsylvania. Both families are well documented, so I am pretty positive of the connection. I am curious as to why this connection isn't more well known. Any suggestions?
on familysearch.org lists the mother's maiden name as Pearce but if you look at the original copy on the website it probably should be Penn:

per familysearch.org
GA Deaths
Wm Pearce McWhorter
d. 25 Jan 1922
age 83y7mo1da in Novaville Greene Co Ga
b. 24 Jun 1838 in GA
male white
father James Hamilton McWhorter b. GA
mother Eliza Pearce (Penn) b. GA

per familysearch.org
James Hamilton McWhorter
married 25 Jan 1831 Oglethorpe Co GA
to Eliza Penn

http://fax.libs.uga.edu/hmans/1f/hargrett_manuscripts_Ma.txt

This link if regarding Mcwhorter family info that is stored in the library. Maybe some of the letters would say something about Eliza's family?

I too, am looking for more history of the Penn family who lived in or near Buckingshire England. The oldest information that I have is for John William Penn, born about 1876 and died about 1973 in England. He married Alice Baker about 1896. Alice died about 1958 in England. The above people were grandparents of my husband. It was always said that Ian was a direct decendant of William Penn, the Quaker. Somebody in the Penn family had researched a family tree to show their pedigree. I don't know who it was.
My husband, Ian Paul Penn, was born in Hawridge near Chesham, Buckinghamshire, England May 18 1935. His father, George Herbert Penn, born May 3 1910 (I believe in Buckinghamshire, England). Died Oct 6 1988 in Guelph, Ontario Canada. The 5 th of 7 children.
--Charles,b.1898 d.1943 From being gassed in WW I.
--Rose b. 1902 never married.
--Dorothy[Doll]b.Dec 1905 never married.
--Edith b.1907 d.1980.
--Then George.
--Fred b. about 1912, d.about 1975.
--Arthur b. 1917. Died about 1976.
Any further information would be appreciated. Contact me at pennib2@rogers.com
Thankyou.
I have found no real info about the Penn family branch were are talking about further back than James Penn 1729-1814. I never saw anything about him being a sea captain. Where dud you read that? There were those who thought that James Penn was the son of William Penn, the reprobate son of William Penn, the founder, but it couldn't be substantiated. According to my notes, this is where I read that:

Watson's Annals of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Vol. 1 Ch 5 - History of Monmouth Co. NJ

http://usgwarchives.net/pa/philadelphia/watsontoc.htm

Mary

I know you posted years, ago, but Richard Penn's father was James Penn, married to Elizabeth Judith Alloway. If you can answer the question about the grandfather, I'd like to hear from you. According to publications by the State of NJ and others, the grandfather of Richard was a William Penn, sea captain. I am still trying to learn their sources.

Regards,
Carol
