Cannot help with the world-wide origins, but the British "Penguin Dictionary of Britsih Surnames" gives ;
Penton. from one of a group of villages in Hants (ie Hampshire)so-called or'farm paying a peny rent',and still a Hants surname.

My Pentons were mostly in Wiltshire.

I have recently received copies of about 50 Victorian era photos from an
album presumably belonging to John PENTON (born 1822 in New Alresford, Hants.)

John was a first cousin of Edwin Penton, grandfather of my own grandparents George and Kate.
About 10 of the portraits can be identified, but the other 40 or so have
no names attributed to them.
The photos were taken in various
localities, namely, Southampton, Isle of Wight (Ryde, Ventnor), Brighton,
Beckenham, Sydenham, Walworth, London SE, NW, W, Tunbridge Wells, etc.
I have put the 50 or so portraits in an album called "Album with many Unknown
PENTONS" in my family tree website http://tonijan.tribalpages.com/
Click on the 'photo' tab at the top
of the homepage and select 'Album with many Unknown PENTONS'. I would appreciate it if anyone can identify the unknown Pentons.

I am a Penten in England UK. from my research i believe PENTEN is the correct spelling , originating in Norfolk UK and spreading to West Ham (Bow in London area UK)

I have an original framed copy of Pentons Arms. It has 2 castles, one on each side of the top and below these, is a rampant lion.
The motto is Virtute et Valore.

My great great great grandfather was William Penton, who was born in Pentonville England and moved to the USA , then to Canada and ended up in Utica NY.

Susanna Lightfoot born in Pushmatah,O.K.b.1819 married Calvin Webb. They were my grandmothers great grandparents. My grandmother talked about Susanna to me alot. She always said that Susanna's people came out of Alabama. Hodge is a common name in Alabama. Susanna's son Thomas Jefferson Webb m. Nancy Stover in T. in Hendersonville. Susanna and Calvin moved alot during their years together. I have them in Ala. Tenn and Miss. Tom and Nancy are buried in Antlers.O.K. Susanna is buried at Hurricaine Creek, Ala. in an unmarked grave which is now on private land. Calvin and Susanna's daughter, Susan Maryan m. John Walker Carter and they lived in Paris,Tx. and are buried there. John and Maryan are my great grandparents.

John and Mary had a daughter, SAMANTHA REBECCA PENTON, b 1848/49 MS, d 1/5/1933 MS - married to ANDREW SMITH, b 1815 Bladen Cty, NC, d 2/4/1892 MS. Their daughter is HARRIET PEARL SMITH, b 8/13/1886 Yamacraw, MS, d 2/16/1969 Bogalusa, LA. Harriet was my paternal grandmother, married to HASTE HODGE, parents to EDWARD ALVIS HODGE, my father. My father always said his Granny Smith (Samantha) was at least half Choctaw Indian, and his mother/my grandmother had very, very strong Indian features. Hi...I am Tom Penton and I came across your message on Ancestry.com. Interesting about the English pirates attacking Havana in 1915. I am working on trying to identify exactly which Penton line that came to America in the 1600 we descended from. This would, of course, eventually go back to the English Penton's.

I am Ada Rosa Penton, I was borned in Cuba, in Las Villas province. My father was Cuban and my grandfather also.
Sometimes ago I was trying to know more about my origen.
I found the main last name in England.
It seems that when English pirates attacked Havana in 1915, some English troops was placed in Las Villas to organize the attack.

I am looking for information on a Mary Ann Penton born 1860 died 8 April 1912 Joe Batt's Arm Newfoundland. She married James Beson (Besan, Bessant). They had 9 children: Francis, George, Patrick, John, Esther, Lambert (Leo), Pierce, Ronald and Josephine.
James also remarried after Mary Ann died. He married Margaret Kennedy. They had 8 children: Lambert, Rita, Leonard, Allan, Esther, Walter, Theobald and James.

Am interested in Samuel Fauver info. I'm tracing his brother George Fauver Jr. (b. 18 Mar. 1795) in Lansing, Tompkins, NY. Married Patience Shepard (b. 4 Apr 1799) in Scipio, Cayuga, NY. No luck tracing the Shepard family yet. Brick walls are frustrating! I'm following the line of their son Thomas Walter Fauver (b. 14 Aug. 1819)

I descend from Samuel FAUVER, one of George and Mary's sons. I have a fair amount on the Samuel FAUVER line if you are interested. Samuel FAUVER married Rebecca NICHOLS and they had 12 children. I am researching FAUVER, NICHOLS (almost impossible!), PURDY, BAKER, STRONG, GOODWIN, and SOWARD.

Here is a little more info. Elizabeth Penton's father was Job Penton (b.abt. 1720) in Alloways Creek, Salem, NJ and died 30 Dec. 1763 same place. Married Elizabeth Craig (b.abt. 1737) abt. 1759. Her father may have been John Craig (b. abt. 1712) in Pittsgrove, Salem, NJ. He married a Mary ?? (b. abt. 1716) abt. 1727 in Pittsgrove. He died on 18 Aug. 1772 also in Pittsgrove. I am researching the Pentons, Fauvers, Craigs, Shepards, Cornells, Chapmans and Lyon families. Any info from you would be appreciated. Most are from Ohio, New Jersey and New York. And the above named are my husband's family.

Elizabeth Penton (b. 1763) in Pittsgrove, Salem, NJ. Died 17 Feb. 1846 in Eaton, Lorain Co., Ohio and buried at Butternut Ridge Cem. Maried George Fauver Sr. 24 Mar 1780 in Eaton, Lorain Co., Ohio. He was born 18 June 1752 in Gloucester, NJ. and died 30 Apr. 1836 same place as his wife. He served in the Revolutionary War and his grave is so marked.

can u get them i would like to see i have some of her too.well i hate to tell but my grandmother gertrue died back on 16th of sep of 2004 and mavis is really bad off she can not see ppl that good and hear ppl that good but if u talk to her and tell her who u are she will know u but see u.the family got together back 3 th of jun.we we have another get together the19th of may in alabama .i do not think aunt mavis will live long.ok well if u e-mail at mismeany1410@yahoo.com i will sent u a pic of me and see u remember me or not.i well call mavis tme and tell her i am talkin to u .and do u know we have family that lives in GA. too and roger died too and his son is in jail cuz of durgs .i am goin to ask u do u know billy gibbs gertrue son? that is my father my mother mildred and my niece cristal gibbs died in 2005.

Then we probley played together as kids. We used to go over to Gertrudes house and stay to. My grandmothers name is Cora Hughes and my name is Dani I am Betty's daughter. Ask Mavis she knows me, her and Roger. I remember when aunt edna had the trailor up behind Mavis's house and then the garden across the street. Aunt edna used to race me down that hill in the front yard to get to the garden. I have some pictures of her I can pull them out and scan them and send them to you. If you talk to Mavis please tell her I said Hi.

Ok that is my great-grandmother's name u may know me if u stayed with them every summer.Cuz i went to her and my aunt mavis house every weekend and stayed with them and i went every summer and stayed half the summer with them.Do u know her kids name and how many they had?Cuz if u do then we are family .Cuz i have family that lives in FL too she was my aunt but i know remember her name.But all i remember is that her kids lived right by her in Fl.

I am looking for information on Orson Penton b. dec 1857 in New York d. 1929 Iowa. His father's name is Abner Penton and his mother was Amelia (Unknown) they resided in New York for sometime than bef 1900 Orson married Emma C Bywater b. Nov 23, 1859 d. unknown They had 2 children listed:

Chester A Penton (1900 census says he is adopted) b. sept 1897 Michigan d. Mar 04, 1938 Iowa m. Mary H (Unknown) (they had 5 children so far as I have found) Marie, Mildred, John, Ruth, Muriel

Amelia is the D/O Sylvester Searles & Sarah Butterfield
Sylvester & Sarah were born in Vermont...

This Thomas Penton does not fit in with our line. We have Abner Penton & Rebecca Barnhart married in Green Co GA, moved into the Florida Parishes which became Mississippi/LA. They had one son John and two daughters. Our line is from Abner-John, etc. mostly in SE LA & MS.(USA)
