I am interested in information on the parents, siblings, marriage, and birth/death of Eleanor People. I really do not know much about her except she is said to have married David Steen (1760-1863) abt 1794. David was born in Terrydremond, Limavady, County Derry, Ireland and she is probably from the same area. The children for David are know to be:

James (1796-1886)
Martha Nancy (b. 1800 d. 1865 Butler Co Pa)
Ellen (1805)
Mary Ann (b. 1806 d. 1879 Butler Co Pa)
Margaret (1807)
Jane (1811)
Elizabeth (1814)
William Wilson (b. 1816 d. 1886 Butler Co Pa)
John (1817)

Some believe David had more than one wife but I am not sure. They would be my 3rd great grand parents.

Any help is appreciated and thank you in advance.

In response to the Wayne Peebles message asserting that those using the surname Peoples "eventually most reverted to the spelling Peebles."

My apologies but this story seems highly suspect and I can't help but wonder if you have any documentation to back up any of this assertion? Maybe an example or two where you've found specific families changing the spelling as you've described?

We have to be careful that we don't continue to perpetuate what may only be family tradition, passed down from one generation to the next, but disguised as fact. If you have no documention to back it up, then please label this claim appropriately and vice versa.

I hope you understand.

Hello and thank you for the reply.

All I know have about my Robert was included in my post. I have no other information about children other than Nathaniel.

Other than the names being the same and the fact that your Robert immigrated to Pennsylvania I have no information indicating that your and my Robert are one and the same.

I note too that your Robert "was supposedly born in 1766" which if anywhere close to being accurate would rule out he being the father of my Nathaniel who my records indicate was born in 1765.

Sure wish there was reason to believe we might have a connection, but based on these comparisons it doesn't look likely. Of course things can change with new discoveries and a connection may later be found. (We can only hope).

I will make note of what you've written and add it to my records for later reference. I hope you will do the same with mine. Should I later find something I believe would be of interest, I'll be sure and let you know.

Thanks again!

Rick

Hi Rick,

I'm not sure we connect, however the names and dates make me very courious.

My Robert Peoples was supposedly born 1766 in Ireland and immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1780. There is a ROBERT in the 1850 census in Donegal Township, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. He had two sons that I know about, My ROBERT born 1787 in Pennsylvania who migrated to Jefferson County, Ohio and then to Morrow County, Ohio and the family ended up in Wood County, Ohio. The other son was DAVID, born 1792 in Pennsylvania and migrated thru Jefferson County to Morrow County, Ohio.

Do any of these tie into your data?

Nathaniel "Nathan" Peoples (1765-1851) of Chester & Later Clearfield County, PA

Nathaniel is my fourth great-grandfather. My records indicate he was born in Chester County, PA 7 May 1765 and died 15 May 1851 in Clearfield County, PA. He was married to Catherine Larue in 1794 in Lancaster County, PA. To this marriage were born Elizabeth (1796-1872) (my third great-grandmother), Samuel (1798), George (1805) and Nathan B (1816).

The elder Nathan apparently was also married to a Sarah (10 Sep 1768- 26 Apr 1849). The two of them are buried at Luthersburg Union Cemetery in Luthersburg, Clearfield County, PA.

My information also indicates Nathan's father was American immigrant Robert Peoples born about 1746 in Ireland. Robert's father was Nathan who was born in Ireland but died in Cumberland County, PA.

I'm interested in exchanging data with anyone with information regarding this branch of the Peoples family in hopes of filling-in the blanks.

Thank you!

Rick

I'm pretty sure my ggrandfather is also George R.! Madie married my grandfather William Harvey Langford in Thomaston, GA. Madie gave birth to my father,WH,Jr, in 1929.
About 4 years later she gave birth to twin boys, Ronald and Donald. Madie and Donald died shortly after the birth. Ronald was given up for adoption but my Dad kept up with him. I got bits and pieces from my died before he died, but I have never met any of my Peoples relatives. I did find the family on the 1932 census in Thomaston, then I lost their trail. My dad always referred to his mom's brother as Sin and he saw them when he was a little boy. I would like to connect with them if I could. My email is ganuts@aol.com. Hope we can reconnect soon! Cathy Wagner

Re: Origin of Peoples Surname

My Peoples family came from Northern Ireland. Robert Peoples was born around 1820 in Londonderry, Ireland. He, his wife Mary Ann Lang/Long, and family immigrated to NYC via Liverpool around 1846. They moved to Aurora, Illinois. He fought in the Civil War and died in Aurora in 1885. I have been searching for him and his record into Ireland, but without success. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. My family tree book seems to be a little different than your post but, I still have most of there names recoreded; they are just in slightly different places. I have been looking for Peoples that have come before Booker Peoples. When in Florida I obtained a copy of "The People Family History and Directory" from what seemed to be a Peoples family reunion in Orlando, Florida on Saturday August 21st, 1993. If you find any information regarding his siblings and/or parents, may you please keep me posted as well. I am Miles Johnson. (According to my documentation) Amanda Moore(b. 1843) married Booker Peoples as his second wife and one of their sons was named Egypt Peoples(b. April 11, 1864). Egypt married Sarah Wilkes and one of their daughters was named Briszeler Beatrice Peoples(b. February 10, 1887). Briszeler Wilkes Peoples(which seems to be the same as Briszeler Beatrice) married Edward Gilbert and one of their daughters was named Mamie Gilbert(b. April 13, 1913). Mamie Gilbert married Thomas Evans and had a daughter named Christine on January 3, 1929(not to be confused with Briszeler's younger sister Christine). Two of Chistine's children from a man named James Johnson, whom she never married were born in 1953 as twins. One twin died as a todler and the other twin was Rolland Johnson(b. 1953). Rolland was my father and married Shirley Jefferson on April 10, 1993. I was born September 5, 1993.

He married Alice M (Pearl)who was also born in Ireland. Alice had a daughter already named Agnus. Samuel and Alice has the following children: Mary Alice (1888-1973), Samuel L. Mr. Kimmell officiating."

I did a little more research and found that Mr. People died on Dec. 22, 1888 as a result of a drowning. He is listed as being from Nova Scotia and he is buried at the Jameson Cemetery, Rockland, Maine.

Hello,
I'm in Philadelphia working on a search right now. I have Peoples in my tree as well. However, I can not find this woman anywhere! Her name is Sarah Peoples. She was the 2nd wife to Daniel Duffy some time around 1859? If you happen to come by her,I would appreciate the help. Right now she is the brick wall I can't get over.

Thanks,
Lin
