Sari forwarded your message to me. She's busy on another project at this time.

Here's what I know. Angele Percy was my great-grandmother. Sari had 2 uncles who married 3 of Angele's daughter's. My grandmother was a 4th daughter of Angele.

Percy is Angele's maiden name. Her married name is Heaton. Her father was Pierre Clement Percy, born in New Orleans and her mother was Magdelina Poree. I'm not sure where Magdelina was born...maybe Mexico or West Indies. Angele was born in Tampico, Mexico. Angele had 2 brothers Pierre (Peter) and Joseph Percy born maybe Mexico or West Indies.

Angele lived in New Orleans from a very early age. Her mother may have died when Angele was very young and I'm not sure who raised her. Her father Pierre Clement Percy also married a Louise Castaigne and they had several children. They also lived in New Orleans but I don't believe Angele lived with them.

I would like to know more about the Percy family. I would like to find a copy of Angele's birth record from Mexico.

Does this sound like it could be your Percy family? Could you be a descendant of Peter or Joseph or Pierre Clement's brother or a Percy uncle?

Dear Peggy

I'm a descendant of Rev William A Percy, Rector of St Georges, Carrick on Shannon from about the 1860's to the 1880's. One of his daughters, Anne Maragret Percy, married my G G Grandfather, Dr Zachariah Johnson, surgeon of Kilkenny, in 1850. I have a copy of their marriage registration. Also have a note sent by relatives who visited Ireland & copied notes from the Church of Ireland records which indicated that William A Percys's father was Henry Percy. Further back from that, I've had to rely on what other posters have said.

Here's an entry I found a few days ago. I've not only been trying to contact you but have also been trying to find Eleanor Donaldson (from your other email address,it sounds like you're out boating most of the time!-- I own an American yacht which sailed from Florida 2 years ago & I bought it here in Australia).

This posting from Eleanor is worded in such a way that it would appear that she's copied it from an older record. The wording makes it sound authentic. By good fortune, I came across a photo of the tomb of Sir Charles Percy in St Peters in Dumbleton, Gloucestshire. I contacted an Adrian Phillips there who put me onto a woman in Australia who is probably going to introduce me to Eleanor Donaldson this week (she spoke to Eleanor only last week).

-------
Entries: 2466 Updated: Tue May 14 03:01:02 2002 Contact: Eleanor Donaldson
Index | Descendancy | Register | Download GEDCOM | Add Post-em
# ID: I1361
# Name: Henry Percy
# Given Name: Henry
# Surname: Percy
# Prefix: Col.
# Sex: M
# Note:

Sir Charles Percy (d.1628),younger brother of Henry 9th.Earl of Northumberland (1564-1632),had no legal issue, but he left his estates of Ballintemple,King's Co. to his natural son Henry Prcy, who was Colonel in the Army of King Charles 1st. and in the habit of coming to Ireland to raise recruits for his Majesty and serving him in every way he could.
He came to Ireland after the King's death.

# Change Date: 9 FEB 2002 at 15:41:44

------------

My g grandfather was William Percy Johnson, son of Anne Margaret Percy & Zachariah b 1854. He came to Australia in the 1880's. It's been quite a job tracking the family history as he separated from his Anglo-French Mauritian wife in about 1901 & was hardly heard of again. We dont even know where he's buried though we think he had another family. Much of the family history was not passed on & he probably knew little of his mother anyway as she'd separated from his father when he was very young.

Until recently we knew virtually nothing of Anne Margaret Johnson nee Percy apart from her marriage & the fact that she had 2 children with Zachariah. In the past 6 months we have found via the magic of Google, Ancestry.com & email contacts, that she separated from Zachariah not many years into the marriage, had an illegitimate child to a William Sandys Browne. Browne died soon after & she went to England where she took up with an already married doctor who had 3 kids. She & this doctor had 2 more boys & in 1878, they migrated to New Zealand. She died in 1915, is buried in Christchurch, just around the corner from my daughter's mother in law. My wife & I were in NZ a month ago & visited a descendant of Anne's from her partnership with the other doctor & also visited her grave.

I can be contacted at rayjohnson@austarnet.com.au or rayjohnson43@gmail.com.

I'm a semi retired doctor living in Queensland & finally have the time to pursue this addictive pastime.

Ray

PS Have come across a reference to a research paper which I've yet to access. You may know of it. It seems that it might throw some light onto the problem. It's by Mark Nicholls "As Happy a Fortune as I Desire: the Pursuit of Financial Security by the Younger Brothers of Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland.
Hi Ray,

That's not a long shot --- it's a sure bet. I've been at this for almost 35 years, and have no plans to stop! :-) I'd be delighted to have any new clues about the Percys.

Since that post, I've collected some differing Percy of Ballintemple pedigrees. None is much help, and there are some glaring errors.

I've found wills and other documents relating to Jonas of Ballintemple, and to his maternal relatives (Padfield), but never a mention of his father. Frustrating. (Wonder where the name "Jonas" comes from?)

By whom is Col. Henry described as the natural son of Sir Charles, and said to have inherited, and to have had a son named Richard? I think that I've heard that version of the ancestry, but I haven't seen any evidence. I did try to find a will for the Sir Charles Percy who died in 1628, but no luck. If he bequeathed land in Ireland, I believe the will would have been filed in Canterbury.

The 1815 pedigree filed in connection with the grant of arms to John Percy (which may be the earliest of the ones I've seen), says that Richard was "Descended of the House of Northumberland, and came to Ireland as a Colonel in the Army." Cromwell's army? I don't see him on any lists.

Just a long shot that youre still interested in the Percys after all of these years. Wondering what you might have found about Colonel Henry Percy of King Charles Army, described as the natural son of Sir Charles Percy. Henry is said to have inherited Ballintemple which was later passed to his son Richard.

Ray

Re: Percy Family of Bennington VT.

The last name is spelled incorrectly in my case. The name is PERCEY. Austin Percey was born in Bennington, VT. He was my greatgrandfather. He had several children and was a dairy farmer. He had sons named Leon, Clarence, Alfred and Arthur. Arthur was my grandfather and was born in 1902. Arthur married Marion Lillie and moved to upstate NY - a small town called East Schodack with a population of about 200. He became a house painter and also painted the church in the town. He had four children with Marion. They were Leon (after his brother), Gloria, and a set of twins named Patricia and Paul. Paul was my father. He was born in 1936 and sadly died in 1992. My dad, Paul, had four children - Penny (me), Gloria (named after his sister), Paula and Paul II. We are all born in East Schodack, NY and then moved further upstate to Troy, NY. We visit the gravesites in the Hillside Cemetery in Bennington, VT where all of these wonderful people are buried.

My family research has taken me back to Andrew Percy (also appears as Piercy) who settled in Oswegatchie, NY sometime in the early 1800's. Apparently he was born in Ireland, but I'm having trouble tracing him or the rest of the family between there and New York. There seems to be a large number of families with either the Percy or Piercy name located in that general area. Any information out there about this family would be much appreciated.

PERCY LINEAGE TO ANCIENT ROME...

Greetings,

My name is William Supernaw, a Percy descendant through my ancestor Margaret Percy of Northumberland, England. The Percy's of Northumberland are of a rather well known peerage in the U.K., however many Percy's with no knowledge of their own roots should indeed investigate the possibility of their own descension from this line, as I did.

For those who do have knowledge of a Percy Northumberland ancestor, I have completed a chart of a fairly recent ancestoral discovery. I have cross-referenced the original chart myself and find it to be accurate. The chart shows the connection of the Northumberland Percy family to a Royal lineage that stretches all the way to a Roman Senator named Syragrius. Possibly of greater importance, our line links us directly to numerous Kings of England, Scotland, a King of Jerusalem as a result of the First Crusade, one Holy Roman Emperor, and a Western Roman Emperor, although he would be a great uncle.

Anyone interested in the chart, it is free. Please simply email me directly at supernaw242000@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

William Supernaw

For curiosity sake, I checked the lineage of the Percy family of Northumberland and find no descendency from any of our Percy's into Pearce. Are you certain that your Pearce does not descend from Pierce? That may be a possibility.

william Supernaw

Richard Percy to Richard Pearce around 1500

Several books say that Richard Percy changed his name to Richard Pearce and founded Pearce Hall in York, England around 1500. “The Pearce Genealogy being the Record of the Posterity of Richard Pearce” by Col Frederick Pierce, published in 1888 is the oldest book with this name change that I am aware of. However, this book has a very bad reputation in the genealogy community. Lots of other books and articles include this but they do not indicate their source. I expect that they just copied the data from the 1888 book. Also, these books indicate that he is an ancestor of the Richard Pearce who was in R. I.

I have ample data on my Pearce lineage in America, but no good sources for any of the Pearce people from Richard Percy/Pearce who founded Pearce Hall to the Richard that came to Rhode Island.

Do you have any good source data for this name change??

Hi, I am really confused about Ephraim Percy, Alexander's grandfather. According to the World Connect record, Ephraim married his first wife,Elizabeth, and had 8 children, including Elizabeth b. 1782; Garrett b. 1795 and James b. 1797. Yet, he is then shown as marrying his second wife, Sarah in 1773 and had Robert b. 1782 and David Simeon b. 14 Oct. 1790. Obviously, those dates don't make a lot of sense. I would greatly appreciate any information you might have about Ephraim, his wives and children.

Thank you very much for your response. It is very helpful. I do have Fred A. as Matilda and Alexander's son, as well as Maria L. Comes. I am guessing that Matilda was married to a Mr. Comes before she married her sister's widower. This information comes from Morgan Watkins' will of 1879. The will does not mention Louisa. Do you have any additional information on Louisa? The will further states that the children of Rachel are Fred A. Percy, Jane E. Niles, Maria L. McDonald and Milton C. Percy.

Do you have any additional information on Elizabeth Vaughn and Robert Percy's first wife?

I was not aware of the DNA project I have no direct relationship to the Percys but am pursuing their link to my Grinnell and Hemstreet ancestors.

Alexander is the son of Robert Percy and his 2nd wife,Elizabeth Vaughn. His grandfather was Ephraim Percy.
Alexander and his first wife, Rachel Watkins. had four children, Fred, Amelia, Jennie and Milton Cline.

By his 2nd wife, Matilda Watkins, I show a son, Frank M amd
a daughter, Louisa.

Are you aware of the DNA studies which have been conducted recently, and which show a Pierce ancestral line for Ephraim Percy? Anybody working on identifying Ephraim's
connection back to the Michael Pierce line?

Alexander Percy, NY?, b abt 1820

Does anyone have information about Alexander Percy or any of his family? Alexander married his first wife, Rachel Watkins, (b. 05 Jul 1823 in Brownville, Jefferson County NY) on 04 Aug 1844. They had four children: Fred A., Jane E., Amelia E. and Milton C. Rachel died 22 Jun 1853 and Alexander married her sister, Matilda Ann Watkins (b 19 Jun 1831) on 22 Feb 1854. They had two children, Maria L and Frank (?) L. I got much of this information from the will of Morgan Watkins, Alexander's father-in-law. I am not sure if I deciphered Frank correctly as the writing was very difficult to read.

Hello

Sadly Luke Gassien is no longer involved with the OPC group and I have taken over. Luke was an huge help to many people including me.I did not inherit his transcriptions and am working on my own but they are not yet complete. He did not in fact deal with Bridestowe. You need to contact Neil Stanton. All the OPC people can be found on http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/OPCproject.html

I mainly deal with Lamerton and am working on several others but there is lots to transcribe. I don't have the Charles you seek but I will keep an eye out as I go along. Please email me at opclamerton@btinternet.com to get into my 'system'

I am researching Percy people too as that is my mother's family so I would be happy to swap notes and see if we have anyone in common. My lot were in Bridestowe then moved to Lamerton so there are possibilities!

Brian Shepherd
