If you search the imigration records, you can find information about your family. On the other hand, I would recomend you to contact the Portuguese embassy/consulate to obtain records. Most importantly, you should check in the region of Catalunya, Spain, because Perera is a Catalan last name and Pereira is Portuguese. It is likely that your family moved to the region of Galicia and later to Portugal.I was able to obtain my grandpa's birth certificate from Barcelona.

I am looking for information about my grandfather,Simon Peter Perera born 1900, was in Merchant navy, married Florence Green in Sunderland UK in 1923 and died in February 1936. His father was Micheal, from Colombo as far as we are aware. Only other info- had brother connected to police force in Colombo area at time of death.
