I am the decent on the Perkins side. A lot of the names you mention sound like some in my family but mine came form the New England area mostly Maine. I have found many family members all over the US but none of these though. I am still working on the Perkins line.

Hope to get some information soon.

Nancy Lavasser Dorais

PS My mother was the daughter of Eugene and Ida Perkins.

I just read a post concerning Holly's son (SB)Samuel Perkins and up until that post, I did not know about this son. "There is a deed dated 22 Aug 1912 b/w Holly C Perkins and his wife Rebecca J Perkins - formerly Rebecca Jane (Kesler) Williams (my g-g-grandmother) - grantors of 93-acres of land in the Kentucky District of Nicholas Co, WV to Clay G Perkins, Clark C Perkins and Clarence Perkins who each paid $100 and the deed included a provision to maintain & support Rebecca upon the death of H C Perkins ... the land was in part bounded by H C Perkins, S B Perkins (Samuel Perkins, another of Holly's sons), and U S G Ward (Ulysses Ward husband of Ellen Moore -- the half-sister of my g-grandfather John F. Moore).
Another deed has Clark C Perkins and wife Lillie D Perkins (as spelled on the deed)of Kanawha Co, WV selling land to Clay & Clarence on 10 May 1905 -- land formerly conveyed to Clark by H C Perkins on 22 Aug 1902." If I locate additional information I will post it.

I have some connections to your line of Perkins HOORAY! I have Holly Childers the son of John David Perkins and Elizabeth Childers. I have John David Perkins as the son of Thomas Perkins and Mary "Polly" Williams. I am descended from Johns older brother David. Going by a tree I found on ancestry I have been trying to track Thomas back through who this tree says is his father Elias. This tree has Elias as born in Prince Georges County Md and his father as John Perkins born in MD. I live in Prince Georges County MD and luckily 1 mile from the PG Historical Society. Last weekend I was able to look at some records for Perkins in St. John's Parish of PG County and at land lease notations for acres on His Lordships Kindness which is also in PG County. I would love to communicate with anyone about any part of the Perkins family. I have been piecing together information so far based on Don Norman's files for the Descendents of Hackers Creek along with a data base for births marriages and deaths in WV.
Peter is in my line also. The Ky death records, 1852-1953 list Peter's father as Joseph Perkins but I am stuck there. I have an article printed by the Green County Genealogy Society on Peter which is very interesting. For some reason this system won't let me attached it. My email is r.perkins48@aol.com if you are interested in it. I have info on Claiborne, Peter's son.

Thank you for sharing that!
Holly C Perkins had many children, but it appears that Clark and Clarance had another full brother - Clay Given Perkins (1879-1955) who married Anna May Bell (1885-1913) and had 3 daughters: Mary, Emma and Ida May.
There is a deed dated 22 Aug 1912 b/w Holly C Perkins and his wife Rebecca J Perkins - formerly Rebecca Jane (Kesler) Williams (my g-g-grandmother) - grantors of 93-acres of land in the Kentucky District of Nicholas Co, WV to Clay G Perkins, Clark C Perkins and Clarence Perkins who each paid $100 and the deed included a provision to maintain & support Rebecca upon the death of H C Perkins ... the land was in part bounded by H C Perkins, S B Perkins (Samuel Perkins, another of Holly's sons), and U S G Ward (Ulysses Ward husband of Ellen Moore -- the half-sister of my g-grandfather John F. Moore).
Another deed has Clark C Perkins and wife Lillie D Perkins (as spelled on the deed)of Kanawha Co, WV selling land to Clay & Clarence on 10 May 1905 -- land formerly conveyed to Clark by H C Perkins on 22 Aug 1902.

Rev. Clark Chambers Perkins, DOB 10-18-1876, and his brother Clarence Perkins were raised on the Perkins home farm in Nicholas Co. Va which later became a part of the new state of West Virginia. Their father was Holly C. Perkins (found this our 4-2012) and their mother was Mary Ellen Nutter. The Perkins boys attended schools in Nicholas County and Summersville Normal. Clark went on to become a Methodist minister and he retired in Charleston, WVA after 50 years in the church. Clarence taught in a "free school" in Nicholas Co. before moving to Gassaway, WVA where he worked in a retail store, was appointed postmaster of Gassaway and later served one term as mayor. He married Bessie Criss of Braxton, WVA. They had no children.

My grandfather, Clark married Lily Dale Dye of Parkersburg on 12-10-1902. Lily was the widow of a Methodist minister named Anderson. They were only married a few years before Mr. Anderson died of unknown cause. Lily met Clark at an annual Methodist District Conference where she was invited as Rev. Anderson's widow. Lily's family lived in Wood County, WVA (Parkersburg on the Ohio River) and she was the daughter of Henry Dye and Susan V. Cox. Susan and Henry later moved to Akron, Ohio on Harpster Ave. in an area called Kenmore. Lily had a sister Edith who also settled Akron in the Mansfield area. Census records of 1880 indicate Henry Dye, Susan age 24 and Lily and Edith resided in Wood Co. WVA.

Clark died in August of 1957 and was preceded in death by Lily who died 12-30-1952. Both Lily and Clark are buried in the Mt. Olive cemetery in Parkersburg near where Rev. Perkins church was located very close to a large park.

Clark and Lily had two girls, Mary Louise (my mother)DOB 5-4-1918 and Virginia Ruth DOB 4-24-1908. Their daughter Virginia Ruth (Mitchell - Rader) Perkins died 10-15-1995. She is also buried near her parents at Mt. Olive Cemetary as well as her only child William Earl Rader DOB 9-14-1927. "Bill" died 4-15-1991 in Charleston WVA. He fathered four children: Randolf, William Earl Jr., Angela G. and Cheryl A. Virginia was an elementary school teacher until she retired. Bill worked at the WVA State Tax Division and he was a musician. He played the trombone in the high school band, continued music education at Interlockin and was in the Shriner's Band. He also was in a dance band performing weekly. He divorced his wife about 20 years before he died.

Mary Louise married Louis F. Cahoon in Akron, Summit Co. Ohio. They had a daughter Martha Ann DOB 3-18-39. Martha married Carl Hout of Akron and they had five children: Carl Michael, Tammy Louise, Timothy Scott, Mark Patrick (deceased) and Peggy Sue. Following her divorce from Louis, Mary Louise married Harry L. Putt DOB 2-26-1911. They had two children: Mary Michelle "Mickie" DOB 7-19-1949 and Lawerence (Larry) Fredrick DOB 6-18-1953. They lived on Hardesty Blvd. in Akron, moved to Stow, OH after Larry was born and then back to Akron to Hillwood Drive. When Mickie (Michelle) was about 12 years old, the family moved to Monrovia, CA , Larry was 8 years old. Mickie married Maury McConnell and had three children: Ryan, Shawn and Michelle. Larry married Trisha ______________ and had two girls: Jamie and Christy. Cristy had a boy Jacob last June.

Brothers (half-brothers?) of Clarence and Clark are Van Perkins m. Fannie Williams and Holly J Perkins m. Alice "Lou" Williams. Fannie and Alice were sisters, and sisters of my g-grandmother Marietta (Williams) Moore. I have Van & Holly J Perkin's parents as Holly C & Ruth (Jones) Perkins. I'm trying to figure out the story on Nancy Jane (Perkins) Moore. I believe she was the sister of Holly C Perkins, and the aunt of Van & Holly J. - she had no children of her own. She became the 3rd wife of my g-g-grandfather, James Madison Moore. In their elder years they lived with Van & Fannie, and it appears after James' death Nancy went on to live with Holly J. ... Holly J and Alice's son, Guy Perkins, also operated a store & post office in the Calvin/Beaver area of Nicholas Co, WV after they left the Canvas area. I know nothing about Holly J's 2nd wife Anna. I have some info on the rest of this large family of Holly C Perkins, and am trying to fill in gaps and correct inaccuracies also. Some of the Perkins ended up in OH. The Williams sisters' mother became Holly C's 3rd/4th wife (they had no children together). I've not found a date for Holly C's death. See yesterday's post for my email if you want to exchange info & photos.

Because I never knew about Lukes other wife or family I was unable to locate any real information about him. I started searching the family years ago but even family members had no real information and there is little or no Perkins from my family left. Thank you so much for contacting me.
It appears that Charles Perkins married 1) Rebecca Brooks on 15 Feb 1855. (There's a marriage record on Familysearch.org). It lists Charles' parents as Thomas and Mary and his birth as Lewis County, VA. There is a Thomas Pirkens in Lewis County in 1830.

Also, did you notice that the 1900 census lists Charles and Parthenia as having been married for 30 years?

And in Braxton County in 1960 there is a Charles and Rebecca Perkins with children John and Elizabeth. On Familysearch, I found 3 births for Charles and Rebecca Perkins: John 1856, Mary E. 1858, Amanda 1860.

I also googled Thomas Perkins and there is a family tree on Rootsweb showing Thomas and Mary Williams Perkins having a son Charles who first married Rebecca Brooks and then Parthena McCourt.

Hope this is helpful.

According to the Texas Land Grants website ( I dont find it on ancestry.com), a John W. Perkins arrived in Texas, pre-statehood between 1837 and about 1840 and was granted 160 acres of land.

We filed and claimed it in 1857 in Angelina County, is my understanding.

In the late 1850s, to make matters confusing, there is more than one John W. Perkins ( same age). Before I assume he is mine, can anyone else claim him?

My Perkins remained in Angelina for a while, then moved onto RobertsonCo in 1880 and Rains Co, in 1900.
Sue
sodixey@hotmail.com

Joshua Perkins-George Perkins ( Louisiana, early 1800)

Perkins researchers,

I am a George Perkins researcher. My George was born in NC/GA in 1782 and moved around a lot in the south before settling in SouthWest Alabama area in the 1830/1840 period. From time to time. I find a piece of documentation, I cant link to my George, so it belongs to someone else, posting what I found in case its of interest to you.

I was at the Family History Center this week. They have access to fold3/formerlly called footnote. They have images of a lot of militry records. I captured an image of a general index card and have two muster cards for George Perkins and for Joshua Perkins. We assume they are related, brothers or something like that. The regiment they were in was 8 Regiment of Orleans Militia 1806. I googled this regiment and didnt really find anything helpful about it, who commanded it and so forth. Since its not my family, I didnt pursue. From my cursery research, it appears this George and Joshua are related to the Perkins/Ashworths who were in Louisiana as early at 1800.

Hope this helps someone.

Hello everyone,

My name is Linda Edwards and I am hoping to make contact with cousins from the PERKINS family from W. Yorkshire, England. This is my husband's mother's side of the family. Here is the break down:

John PERKINS (b.1860, Malton, WYK)
m. Susanah MEADEN (b. 1861, Leeds, WYK)

They had the following children, who were all born in Leeds:
a) Florence (Ch.: 11 Sep 1890)
b)**Annie Benetta (b. 1892; d. 8 Jan 1953, Leeds)
c) Frank (b. 1896)
d) Walter (b. 1897)
e) George (b. 1902)

Annie Benetta was my husband's maternal grandmother. Annie married Arthur COX (b. 29 Apr 1893, Leeds, WYK; d. 11 Dec 1968, Cottingley,Bingley,WYK)in 1917. As far as I know Annie & Arthur had only 1 child:

Alma Victoria COX (b. 25 Dec 1919, Leeds, WYK; d. 25 Aug 1963, Santa Monica, California.) Since Alma died when my husband was only 4 years old, he knew extremely little about his mother and definitely, knew nothing of her family.

If you are direct descendants of this family, I would love to chat with you and exchange what information & photos I have.

Thank you for your time & consideration.

Sincerely,
Linda Edwards (genmum@yahoo.com)

I know this is a very old post, however you caught my interest as my family apparently came through Elk Valley. There were 4 generations. First generation Peter Perkins & Elizabeth Betty Brown. (1775 to 1847) He is my 3rd great grandfather. I show through research that they had 16 kids. (Busy guy!!!) Second Generation is Edward Ned Perkins and Sarah Sally Ann Lay. (1811 to 1894) He is my 2nd great grandfather. I show through research that they had 8 kids. I have pictures of Edward and Sarah's headstones in the Standfield cemetery. The third generation is Thomas Perkins & Mary Hibbard. 1850-????. They had my grandfather Thomas David Perkins. They had 7 kids. He moved to Oklahoma and then to Arizona. My dad was born in Oklahoma and wound up in New Mexico. Any information about the family would be appreicated. I plan to travel to Elk Valley very soon.
