Hi all,
I am going into the mid-1700's and am beginning to struggle.
I have found a George Perks born 1757 died in 1833.
I have 2 questions, this George died in Madeley but descendants lived in Stourbridge, was he born in Shropshire Madeley or possibly worked here due to mining etc?
Secondly,I have found his father, Also a George Perks and his mother Mary but cannot find any more info to go further back. If anyone had any info it would be a big help.
I have found one tree that ties to mine even going to my great grandfather Richard Perks b.1916 Wolverhampton. If anyone also has any info on this line of Perks any more info or even comparing trees would be great.

Thanks

<< Mount Royal cemetery about her D.O.B and got a reply 30 minutes ago. There was no date, but it listed her as being 77 years old! Guess it's not the Catherine I'm looking for. >>

Well, now wonder if this Catherine Perks was one of ours... b. c 1832 ... hmmm.

I've looked everywhere for Eliza Jane's sister Catherine but have only uncovered her in the 1911 census as you've seen and the passenger manifest.

Jean C.
Yeah.

I continued to search, and came across the 1911 Canadian Census and she is listed as being 2 years old.

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=9966...

Guess I was a tad quick in my posting my research.

I asked at Mount Royal cemetery about her D.O.B and got a reply 30 minutes ago. There was no date, but it listed her as being 77 years old! Guess it's not the Catherine I'm looking for.

So where is she???

Any idea where to search next? She's not listed in Quebec death records (she might have moved or died after 1996, although her sister Obit doesn't mention her), she might have moved back to England or Ontario?? I am at a loss.

david

Hey everyone. I am Chris Perks' cousin whom he mentioned and indeed I do work at the Library and Archives in Ottawa. I have spent some time in the past 2 years researching the Perks line.

Did some additional work on Willaim and Jessie's children.

William and Jessie did have 2 daughters, Catherine and Ella (Eliza Jane). It wasn't Catherine who died in 1990, but Eliza Jane. I have her Obit from the Montreal Gazette. She was married to William Watson Dyer who died before her in 1983. They had 3 children. William (Shirley Cornberg), David, and Lynn (Rae Auclair). These children also have kids of their own and I have their names, although the obit doesn't say to whom they belong. Their names are Kim, Laird, Joanne and Mark. There's even a Great grandchild named Ashley.

Her funeral was held at Lakeshore funeral Home on Tuesday Novemver 13th, 1990.

I still am unable to find anything about Catherine. The Quebec death database we have here at LAC only goes up to 1996.

I can try other avenues such as obits to find her.

David Knox

My grandmother was Mary Perks ( she never changed to Hall) who married Thomas Blakeway. my mother was Ethel Blakeway b 1907. Do you have any other info on Charlotte's children? I have some and lots about Charlotte herself - if you would like to contact me through faypascoe@gmail.com , it would be easier!

Fay

My 4 x Gt Grandparents are / were Jemima Hiron and her husband Thomas Perks. Their daughter Rachel (Born 1827) married twice, her second husband being a Charles Hunt. Rachel is / was my 3 x Gt Grandmother. She and Charles (Rachel being his second wife) had a daughter Clara Jane Hunt born 1869. Clara married a Joseph Alexander Easthope on 4th October 1885. One of their children was Clara Jane Easthope born 2 March 1888. At the age of 22 she married a man by the name of Thomas James Hodgetts 31 July 1910 at St Chrysostom's. Their marriage produced three children, the youngest of who was their only boy also named Thomas James Hodgetts (1918 - 1998) who was my grandfather. In the years of WW2 he was posted to Northumberland where he met my grandmother Margaret Johnson. They married in August of 1942 and they had two sons, the eldest being my father Ryan James Hodgetts.
I have no idea if any of this interests you, but either way it would be good to compare notes.
In the last 48 hours I have found a tree owned by Brian Arnott (on Ancestry) an we share Jemima Hiron in common. Meandering through his tree I have followed the lineage all the way back via the Perks, Hawes, Greswold's and the De Somery's of Dudley Castle all the way back to William of Avranches 1005 - 1087. It is an awful lot to digest. I have been groping about in the fringes of the 1841 census for quite sometime trying to learn about my Hodgetts ancestry then suddenly to discover these connections and the timeline....... well...... I have a lot to think about.

Best wishes and kindest regards

Philip Hodgetts (son of RyanHodgetts2)

Jean;

That is all consistent with my research. As I think I noted previously, Robert Perks/Doris Udall were my grandparents as their son, Richard Albert Perks (born 1940), is my father (and he is still alive at age 70 resident of Nanton, Alberta, Canada (just south of Calgary, Alberta, Canada)).

Best regards,

Catherine died in Dorval (Montreal) in 1990 however it may be the case that Eliza is still alive as we can't find any record of her death. I have a cousin who works for the Government of Canada in National Archives (Ottawa) who is actually checking for further data right now. I expect he will have some feedback sometime next week.

Regards,

Hi Chris, I have been checking on Henry William Perks who I believe was my father's cousin. Apparently he moved from Kidderminster to Clement Park in Dundee and then to Montreal where he joined the Canadian Army. As you said he was killed at vimy ridge. I believe he had two daughters whose names I do not know. I do know his wife was Jessie. I also know that she lived at 5806 Delormier Ave. Montreal. I dont know what happened to her daughters.Perhaps you can enlighten me on this. Another distant cousin.
Dave Perks.
banjo046@sympatico.ca

Thanks for the response. Albert Perks (my great grandfather) immigrated to Montreal, Canada in 1919. He married Clara Duprez from Belgium (prior to immigrating to Canada) and they had one son, Robert Perks (my grandfather) in 1914 (in Kidderminster).

Robert grew up in the Montreal area and married Doris Udall and they had 2 children, Richard Perks (1940) and Joanne Perks (1943). Richard Perks (my father) moved to Calgary, Alberta in the early 1970's which is where I grew up (and I am still here...!)

Alberta passed away in 1978 at almost 100 years old and Robert Perks (my grandfather) passed away in 1980. I have an aunt (Joanne Perks) who still lives in Montreal and quite a number of cousins/nieces/nephews remaining in the Montreal area (Joanne had 3 children and they have all been quite prolific also...!)

Finally, I have one sister (Kelly) and we each have 2 daughters (ages 16/14/10/8).

I hope that all makes sense!!

Best regards,

Chris Perks
chrisperks@shaw.ca

Hi Chris,

Yes, you surely do. Your ggrandfather Albert was the 1st cousin of mine and Glenn Trapp's grandmother Agnes Perks (1890 Scotland) and 1st cousin once removed of Dave Perks (Canada). Would you provide us with more detail on Albert's line of whom we were not aware.

Jean Carmean (Michigan)
jcarmean@aol.com
I reside in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (born 1965 in Montreal, Canada) and, after some research, it appears that my Great, Great Grandfather was Joseph Henry Perks (who was the son of George Perks (1837)and Hannah Starr) which is the William Perks (1812) line from Kidderminster (my Great Grandfather was Albert Perks and his brother William Henry Perks was killed in action at Vimy Ridge, France with Canadian Forces).

It would seem that I have quite an extended line of distant cousins out there....!

Chris Perks
