Joseph Pero of Ogdensburg, New York State

I'm looking for information on my grandfather Joseph Pero born around 1894 and died Ogdensburgh, NY State in 1954. He seems to have been married twice. I would like info about his first wife as I have nothing for her. She may have been Canadian born. They would have had at least one son William Daniel (Scotty) born in Brockville, Ontario in 1925. Joseph was married (again) in 1943 to Irene Newton Wallace born 1898 in Lisbon, St.Lawrence Cnty., New York State. She died in Feb 1955.

Me and my husband David Pero have started back researching his family tree Pero/Perreault. Found out that his great grandfather was a Leon/Napoleon Pero born about 1865. Leon's father's name was supposedly also Leon - mother's name is unknown. Could this be a relative? Please feel free to contact me at chance.joanne @ att.net. Thank you.

Have you been able to go back any further on the Frank/Francis Pero/Perreault line? I would be willing to give you what I have on decendents of Susan and Gifford Peters.

William Daniel Harold Leslie (a.k.a. Scottie) Pero

William Daniel (my dad) was born in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. However his parents were from the Ogdensburg and Lisbon areas of New York State.
I am trying to find any information on my grandfather Joseph Pero born around 1898. Last I knew he was living on Caroline Street, Ogdensburg. I believe he may have died in late 1950's or 60's.
I'd also like to find information on Joseph's parents as well as his first wife (I assume she died). Joseph married Irene Newton Wallace (I assume his 2nd wife) in 1945 in Detroit, Michigan. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Laurence,

Check out the "Familysearch Labs" (google the quoted term) pilot progam and you can find Lula's parents are Madison (Matt) Fillmore (d. 1916) and Edith (Hayward) Smallwood. It was his second marriage 27 April 1897. Previously, he married Hattie Thornington 23 June 1892.

He is the son of Isaac C. Smallwood (d. 1912) and Nancy Edgell (d. 1902. Isaac remarried Esther (recorded as Hester) McCrandell 19 Sept 1907. Esther Huntley had previous married John C. McCrandell 26 May 1884.

Interestingly, one or two lines below, Lula's marriage record to Frank Pero (29 Aug 1916) was a marriage performed by J. Hygema. The Reverend James Hygema is a paternal cousin and Edith (Pero) edgar is a maternal cousin. It really is a small world.

Paul Baukema

Dear Paul,
Have tried to contact you by your e-mail address that you gave me a couple yrs ago, but have had no luck. This is not connected to the Pero family, but the Teeple/Bowlby family. I have received two photos that I beleive are Joseph and Elizabeth Teeple Bowlby. They are copies of tintypes from my grandfather Charles Bowlby's album. No names..just "Grandpaw Bowlby" & "Grandma Bowlby". What I'm looking for is the possibility that some member of your family may have photos that we could compare these with. If so ,I can e-mail copies of them to you and and verify if they are who I think they are. If you're interested please contact me at geodor@peoplepc.com.
Thanks, your 5th cousin Doris from Idaho

He was naturalized about 1896 on his father's papers.

Census records 1900-1930 indicate the family came 1889±1 year (they report 1888,1889, 1890) and were naturalized in 1896.

Other postings on this board indicate they may originate in Italy and travelled via Canada to the US.

Paul

Hi Gail,

I just took a quick look at Frank (Jr) Pero (who daughter Edith Pero m. Roger Edgar). Roger is, probably, my mother's fourth cousin through the Edgar/Teeple line.

Looking at Census data today, I saw Frank (Sr), Frank Jr., Thomas, Aldophus, Betsey, etc. all in or about Gladwin Co., MI. Acccording to the census they came in 1888 to 1890, the year differs each census and were naturalized about 1896.

Write me directly and I'll try to compile all I have.

Paul

But I wanted to say hello since your husband's father is my 5th cousin if I have my facts straight.

Roger (according to the Census data) was born in Ohio (not Michigan). These are actually entries for Ray and Teresa (Wonderly) Edgar:
1930 Sage, Gladwin Co., MI (E.D. 14)
1920 Sage Twp., Gladwin Co., MI (E.D. 179) p 6A
1910 8th Ward, Chicago, Cook Co., IL (no children yet)

Ray Ellsworth Edgar (s/o Ellsworth C.
Hey Robert It has been a long time since you shared info with me and my little cousin Sandy as you call her. But I stumbled across the wedding record of Joseph and Nancy Pero and wasn't sure if you had it. They were married Sept. 17, 1839 at St. Patrick's Church in Rochester. I found this while searching for info on Timothy Plante's Parents, Joseph and Eleanora or Lisette Plante. I had thought that Eleanor Lebeau was Timothy's mother but baptisim records show Lisette Babineau as his mother . Is there any chance that you have any info on this? If there is some thing you would like me to look up for you let me know and I will look into it when I can? If you want a copy of the wedding record let me know and I will snail mail you a copy. You can e-mail me at jmtoepp@aol.com . Jerry Toepper
