I note that you are doing research on the Elders in Coweta County, ex-slaves. My ancestors, Elias and Mary Stephens of Coweta County owned two slaves in the 1860 census, a male, age 17 and a female, age 12. Joseph and Rebecca Elder are near their names in the 1870 census, but their ages are 32 and 16 respectively. I am wondering about the possibility that Joseph might be one of those ex-slaves? I would appreciate any light that you might be able to shed on the matter.
Cordiallly your, Linda Stephens Collins

William and Katie Persons Family in Arkansas

Hi!
I am pretty new to Ancestry, and I am trying to trace William Ellis Persons' (1903-1977) family. I have his parents, William Ellis Persons (1862-1926) and Katie D. Tiner (1874-1907), and his dad's mother, Eliza Jane "Elvira" Hill (1847-1894), but I cannot find anything that will give me his dad's name. This is as far back as I can get. I am also researching the Tiner family as well. Any help anyone could offer would be much appreciated as I am one of only two people researching this side.

I just found out that my mother Vivian C (Persons) Henley had a half sister named Martha D. Persons. Martha was b. abt. 1905 to William L. Persons and Effie (Weathers)Persons in New Hampshire. Effie was William's first wife. Martha lived in concord with her maternal grandmother, who ran some sort of private hospital,at least through her school years. Then I have tracked her to the Boston area. Would love to know what happened to her from there. My mother and her brother, H.Lloyd Persons have both died so I have reached a dead end. Any info on my aunt would be appreciated.
John had a couple of sister siblings that I know of (possbily more): Florence and Mary.

I'm trying to find the name of his father who I heard was a doctor in Camby, IN. I'm running into a complete brick wall. Anybody out there?

George E. Persons - Marion County, Iowa

I am looking for any and all information on the following family:

George E. Persons b. abt. 1835 in New York married to Martha Ann Ellsworth on 19 Sep 1866 in Marion County, Iowa. Martha was born abt. 1848 in Iowa. Martha is supposed to have died around 1876 - I've read she was thrown from a wagon. They had at least 3 children:
George b. abt. 1868, Sarah Ann b. abt. 1869, Bertha b. October 31, 1875 in Knoxville, Marion, Iowa.

Bertha was adopted to James M. Snyder and Sarah Alley of Mercer, Missouri after Martha Ann died. Bertha went on to marry David William Reed, and she is my ancestor.

Martha may have been the daughter of Simon Ellsworth and Mary Ann Comptice. No leads on ancestry for George Persons or any idea what happened to him after Martha died.

Thier children lived in Monroe, Harrison,Belmont,Tuscawaras, Stark Counties Ohio. Also KS, ILL and possibly Iowa.
John PERSONS was listed in the 1840 Londonderry TWP., Guernsey , OH Census.
Jason Daniel NILES b. 18 Apr. 1839 Stanstead, QC - d. 04 Oct. 1916 Charleston, VT

The 1850 US Census for Charleston, VT, tells us that JASON DANIEL NILES was residing with the Francis & Mary CHASE family at age 11 years.

The 1900 US Census for Charleston, VT, tells us that JASON DANIEL NILES, migrated to the USA from Canada in 1846 (i.e abt. age 7 years).

JASON DANIEL NILES death certificate at Charleston ,VT apparently says that his father was JASON (?) NILES, and that his mother was ALMA PERSONS.

Search for Father:
We have explored the possibility that JASON ADAMS NILES birth 19 Dec 1814 Burlington, VT - death 7 July 1894 Kosciusko, MS, was actually Jason Daniel NILES biological father; without any documented success to date.

However, a photographic facial feature comparision, reveals an uncanny striking resemblance.

JASON ADAMS NILES was apparently a son of DANIEL SWIFT (SWIT) NILES, who resided at HATLEY, STANSTEAD, QC.

Search for Mother:
To date we have found no record of the ALMA PERSONS listed on Jason Daniel NILES death certificate as being his biological mother; in either the Eastern Townships records in Stanstead County, Quebec, or in Orleans County, Vermont. (possibly PARSONS versus PERSONS)

Any leads appreciated.
Adding to the previous message .... The Will of William PERSONS dated 1844, lists wife Polly, sons Andrew D., William E.; daughters Ruey Richardson and Alemeda Persons. I also have a (what I call a "Quit Clain") from the Supreme Court, Wyoming County, NY, dated Feb 20, 1899 for order of Publication. It lists about 3 pages of names (in two different formats), including my Great-grandmother Adelaide Brigham and your Ruey Richardson. It is 6 pages long, but very informative. I think they want to sell property in Wyoming Co and are listing all possible known heirs. Just for info!

To clarify - Barb Durfee was not Co. Hist. but Sheldon Town Historian, NY; sorry about that. 2nd - The reason I felt William was son of Uriah is that he was born in PA, before Uriah came to NY, after leaving NJ. The copies of the Wills were received from another Persons researcher in 1997. The Will of Uriah PARSONS, Wyoming County, NY dated 11 Feb 183_, was Proved in Wyoming Co., NY Aurora, 20th day May 1842. The Will of William PERSONS of Sheldon, Wyoming Co., NY dated 7 Nov 1844, Proved 24 Feb 1845. Also included was the Abstract of the Will of Uriah PARSONS, dated 25 Jan 1810 copied from "Documents Relating to Colonial Revolution and Post-Revolution History of the State of New Jersey - Vol XII 1810-1813", listing sons Robert, Henry & Uriah; also daughter Unis Dalrymple and granddaughter Mary Herd, daughter of my daughter Liddy Herd des'cd. Hope this will help. Not proof positive as yet.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will contact the current county historian. Also, from where did you obtain the 1833 and 1784 wills? On microfilm from the LDS Family History Library? or directly from the counties? Thanks again. J.B.

My info on William Persons, b. 5 June 1784, PA came, mostly, from Barb Durfee, of Varysburg, NY, County Historian at the time. Since, I have obtained copies of the Wills (or abstracts) for Uriah Parsons (sic) and for William Persons. In Uriah's will, dated 11 Feb 1833 he lists sons John, Uriah, Hiram, Alonzo, WILLIAM, David, Elihu H., Charles James and Robert. In Will of William, dated 5 June 1784, Sheldon, Wyoming Co., NY. Since Uriah came to NY from NJ, then PA, then to Sheldon, NY, I have this William as his son with wife and children as you state.

Does anyone have any information on Enoch Persons? I've tried many places to look and have come up empty. Enoch married Lynda/Belinda Hubbard 1/15/1813. They had a son Enoch Collins Persons b. 1821 in Mass. They eventually settled and died in Kansas. I have a possible birth place as Sandisfield, CT, but not too sure about it.
Thank you for any information!
