Hi
I am not sure wehter we ever have had contact as I run the Pester One Name Study here is the UK collecting all data on Pester worldwide. I have a substantial family tree on the John Thomas family and I have just looked up my database to find that they remained in Whitestone Devon during their married life. I even have the 1891 - 1911 census with them living there. If you want to discuss more I will be happy to help.
I work on an information swap basis since the comupter age took off which means info is easy and cheap to send over the Internet!! so everything is free to swap and pass on.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Lynn

Pester / Lake connection

Does anyone know about the John Thomas PESTER who married Lydia Jane SEWARD at Exeter St Thomas, Devon, in 1885? After their marriage, they moved to Cardiff, Glamorgan, and their surname changed to LAKE. As far as I can make out, John was not an illegitimate child, a circumstance which sometimes gives rise to multiple surnames.
I wondered if someone might know of some other connection between the PESTER and LAKE families.

Hi James,

I have not been able to find out why our G-Grandfather went to South America. I have a page from Margaret's bible where she has written; "James C. Pester went to South America Feb 14, 1878. Returned home on Jan 30, 1879 and died Feb 19th and was buried in Leverington Cemetery Feb 23, 1879."
The trip remains a mystery.

I just returned from a weekend trip to Philadelphia where I saw Matthew & Eliza Pesters graves (James parents) as well as James and his son William.

Matthew was born in England to John Pester and Sarah Clarke in 1816. If I can provide any more information please let me know.

Mary

Sorry,I just saw your e-mail. I have been off line for a few years which explains the delay. I do not have a whole Bible. Only two pages that were given to me by my Grandmother, Adelaide Pester Baker. She was the youngest child of James & Margaret Pester. The information I have is limited to only James, Margaret and their children. I never saw the whole Bible, only the two pages.

Pester Family Bible & Photos

I am fortunate to have the Pester Family bible, handed down to me from James Pester (my great-grandfather, grandmother (Dorcas Rose Pester) and aunt (Mary Ella Porter). James was the son of Josiah Pester and grandson of James Pester.
In it are 8 pages with 2-3 photos on each. These photos are contain daguerreotypes, tintypes, cartes de viste and cabinet cards.

The photos are encased in the typical 19th century Bible photo pages, and thus difficult to extract without damaging the paper.

On the reverse of the first one I have removed is noted in pencil, "Mary Jane Pester, March 11. 1879, 2 years 6 mos, 11 day.

If anyone would like a a hi-res copy, just let me know. And if interested, I will keep you updated on the others as I get them removed, and send copies, including those I may not be able to identify. (I am a university historian, and for far longer than I have been interested in genealogy, I have been frustrated by unidentified photos and documents. I am making certain that MY descendants don't have the same frustration.)
b-evans@earthlink.net
I would dearly love to find other descendants of Mr. Edwin Pester and his wife Sarah Jane Harrison

Davenport Daily Times, Feb. 25, 1907, page 13
Edwin Pester, very well known in the city and vicinity, died Sunday morning at 3 o'clock at the home of P. S. McGlynn, 808 Seventeenth Street. The cause of death was given as old age and a mild attack of heart trouble which proved fatal to the old gentleman who was 87 years of age.

He was born in England and came to America in 1850, going at once to Davenport, where he lived for thirty-five years. He came to Moline in 1885 and has been here since. He leaves five children, Mrs. Marie Blackman of Osco, Henry County; Mrs. Fannie Farley of Hammond, La., Edward L. of Rhodes, Iowa, Mrs. Anna R. McGlynn, and Mrs. Marie G. Ogden of Moline.
... the remains will be buried in Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Paul W.
I am wondering if you have an Elizabeth Pester in your family tree. She would have been born around 1801 West Pennard Somerset England according to 1841 census.Family information has her maiden name as Tester.I have made some contacts with others in Australia who have her maiden name as Paster. She was married to Shadrach Chamberlain around 1825. Most of the family left for Canada and Australia around 1855. A daughter of Shadrach and Elizabeth,Ann, stayed in England until 1891 before coming to Canada .Family stories say she stayed in England caring for her mother. She is shown in 1881 census living with a John Pester(age 70 ,widowed and birthplace West Pennard).Could the above mentioned John Pester and Elizabeth Pester be related? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That town would be "Kildare" Oklahoma.

I show an Emily Pester married to Tobias Horinek. Would that be the "Minnie"? The 1965 obit of Lewis C. Horinek (Tobias's brother) says he was survived by "Tobe of Transcone, Canada". It looks like 4 of the Tomas Horinek sons moved from Oklahoma to the Hingham Montana & Edmonton Alberta Canada area.

I also show a Marie Pester married to Tobias's brother Stephen Horinek. Marie & Emily Pester were probably sisters.

I have some other Pester family in my tree and they are from Dolni Loucky, Moravia. The Horinek's came from the same area (Tisnov & Oujezd).

Note: When many Bohemian & Moravian immigrants came over to the US in the 1870s, 1880s & 1890s, Bohemia & Moravia was part of the Austrian empire, so their country of origin usually said "Austria".

This sounds curiously close. The names, dates, and geography certainly fit.
I'm loking for a relationship between Edward Pester (George Edward?) and Anna Grace Pester Burns who lived in Clayton County, Iowa. I wish I had more clues. All I have is a picture with the name Edward Pester scribbled on the back of ti. It certainly bares checking into further. Maybe I'll be able to make the connection.

Unfortunately, my research on the Pester name has not advanced to a point where I can help you. Annie Grace Pester was my husband's great-grandmother and I don't know anything further back. Annie was born in 1860 in New Lennox, Illinois. I have no idea of her parent's names or when and where they were born. I have a few of her siblings names. Edward, Ida, Lilian, and Florence. I haven't explored that line further. Sorry I can't help.

No, Bob. I haven't been able to find anything more. Apparently that side of the family isn't in to geneology message boards and I haven't dug up anything on the rest of the web either. My husband, Chuck, is also a descendant of Anna Grace Pester Burns. Her daughter, Nettie, was his grandmother. I don't spend much time delving into geneology during the summer, but hopefully will find something more next winter. Let me know if you dig up any more. Thanks.
Linda
