As complete an Ancestry family tree as I could construct is available for descendents of Lt. Col. David Philips (aka "Fighting David Philips"), uncle of Rev. David Philips of Washington Co., PA.

I regret that I cannot answer queries or do lookups. Normal Ancestry searches will uncover matches in this tree. You can also search within the tree.

To find the tree, click on my name next to the photo above and then click on "view profile". My profile will have a list of public trees - select the tree "Descendents of Lt. Col. David Philips of Washington Co., PA". Cheers!

-- Tom

Hi Jane

Yes the mutation comes from the Philips/Hines line. There is a 50% chance of inheriting the mutation. What your observation suggests is that Edward Atchley Philips (s/o A A Philips Jr) did not carry the genetic mutation. Therefore, none of his descendants will carry the genetic mutation either as it hasn't been known to skip generations (as far as anyone knows). Be thankful...your Philips branch is exempt. :)

Margaret Francis PHILIPS Kreuder and Harriet "Hattie" PHILIPS Howard Alton carried the mutated gene.

Because Hattie is a dau of A A Philips & Susan Hines, we can rule out Margaret F Dalton (Margaret and Edward Philips mother) or Frederic D Kreuder (Margaret's husband) as the source.

Since my original post, at least one additional Kreuder descendant and one additional Alton descendant has tested positive.

I do have an unrelated Philips question for you. I tried to contact you months ago by both email and Ancestry PM and got no reply.

Best Regards

John

Are you sure that the mutation comes from the Philips/Hines line? I'm a descendant of Abraham A. Philips and Susan Hines. I had been corresponding with Richard Kreuder for a few years, until he passed away. Neither my father, or his only sibling (an older brother who is now 80 yrs. old), had or have amyloidosis. None of their children, grandchildren, and so far...none of their great-grandchildren have it. My father (Clifford) has 5 children (ages 42-56), 9 grand-children, and 3 great-grandchildren. His brother (Edward) also has 5 children, not sure how many grand and great-grand kids he has. My father used to be in contact with some other older Philips cousins...Wilbur and Herbert...they also did not have amloidosis. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Jane

Hoping a Philips descendant might have more about these two people.

Pennsylvania, Marriage Records, 1700-1821
Name:
John Philips
Marriage Date:
14 Apr 1754
Marriage Place:
New Hanover, Montgomery, Pennsylvania
Spouse's Name:
Esther Rees

Montgomery and Bucks Co are adjacent.

Listing is in the registry of Lutheran Church, New Hanover.

Similarly, Gabriel Phillips was married in a "German" dominated church in Bucks Co in 1758. In the Hanover registry are a large number of non-germanic names so i conclude that church registries did not necessarily exclude marriages of non-members.

John's first child Sarah married in 1768 so if she was the product of this marriage she would have been around 14 at marriage. So young.

Please keep this John/Esther in mind as you search.

One other note: Rees or Reese is very Welsh name.

Mary Phillip's death record incorrecty states that she was born in Ashburton, Devon. She married Arthur Horton in Ashburton and lived there for a time but census records in Devon show that she was born in the parish of Dittisham. The parish registers at Dittisham show that she was the daughter of James and Sarah (probably Peek) Phillips, born October 13 / 1825 which matches census records here in Ontario.

James was probably the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Phillips and so he took his mother's surname. If you are interested in more information you can visit my website which is heavily under construction. I do have a bit of slightly organized information on the Horton family up already.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~romefamili...

Alex

Abraham Atchley Philips descendants and Familial Amyloidosis

Abraham Atchley Philips (Brooklyn NY) descendants are potentially at risk. Out of 12 children, 2 descendant lines (surnames Kreuder & Alton) are known to be carrying the genetic mutation, the others are unknown, but statistically, there should be 4 more lines. It is not known if this mutation comes from Abraham or his wife, Susan Hines, therefore, descendants of Abraham Atchley Philips (the father) and Julia Shorey (Baltimore MD family) could also be at risk.

Look for conditions like Sjogren's syndrome (dry mouth and eyes), proteinuria, and renal insufficiency leading to renal dialysis...Amyloid deposits can also cause chronic conditions in the GI tract, eyes, esophagus, lungs, spleen, liver, heart and more...

If you suspect that your line carries this mutation feel free to contact me. We now know the doctors that are the most knowledgeable of Familial Amyloidosis and the mutation specific to the Philips family: lysozyme arg 64. (There is a genetic test available.) My sister in law was never diagnosed properly as Familial. She might have lived a longer life had we known at the time.

Ref (Medicine.net):
Familial amyloidosis

Familial amyloidosis, or ATTR, is a rare form of inherited amyloidosis. The amyloid deposits in familial amyloidosis are composed of the protein transthyretin, or TTR, which is made in the liver. Familial amyloidosis is an inherited autosomal dominant in genetics terminology. This means that for the offspring of a person with the condition, there is a 50% chance of inheriting it.

Amyloidosis is a group of diseases that result from the abnormal deposition of a particular protein, called amyloid, in various tissues of the body. Amyloid protein can be deposited in a localized area and may not be harmful or only affect a single tissue of the body. This form of amyloidosis is called localized amyloidosis. Amyloidosis that affects tissues throughout the body is referred to as systemic amyloidosis. Systemic amyloidosis can cause serious changes in virtually any organ of the body.

Johncase3@aol.com
David Phillips, Richmond Co., Virginia, Early 17001

I'm wondering if anyone is researching a David Phillips who is found in the records of Richmond Co., VA, in the early 1700s. David was the son of William Phillips and Susannah, daughter of Roger and Joan Williams of Richmond Co.

If I am not mistaken, in 1728, David Phillips sold his land in Richmond Co. and moved to Orange Co., VA. Again, if I am not confusing two separate men with the same name, I think that David sold his land in Orange Co. in 1746 and moved to old Edgecombe (later Granville) Co., NC.

I'm interested in David Phillips because he is closely associated with a Robert Phillips in Granville Co., who married a daughter (probably Margaret) of my ancestor Dennis Lindsey. I suspect but have not proven that Robert was a son of David Phillips.

Another of Dennis Lindsey's daughters, Catherine, married Roger Thornton, who also came to Granville Co., NC, from Richmond Co., VA. In fact, Roger inherited land in Richmond Co. from his parents Roger and Isabella Thornton which adjoined land of William and Susannah Phillips, and which passed to their son David by Susannah's will in 1726.

Roger Thornton and David Phillips were cousins, in fact. The elder Roger Thornton (1686-1730) was the son of Henry Thornton and Anne Williams. Anne was a sister of Susannah Williams who married William Phillips.

I'd be very interested in any information anyone can provide on this Richmond Co., VA, Phillips family, and will gladly share my own information with other researchers.

Various pieces of evidence have led me to think that the Dennis Lindsey whose daughters married Roger Thornton and Robert Phillips was a Dennis Linchey or Lynch who arrived in Richmond Co. in 1718 from Ireland, and who was indentured as a servant for a period of years to Francis Suttle of Richmond Co.

Hi. The Captain Thomas Espy GAR Post is located in Carnegie PA. Members were from the South Hills, including two men with the surname 'PHILIPS.' (Online it is spelled Phillips, but the documents are spelled with one 'L.' There is also one man named Enoch Philips Holland.) Currently, the Andrew Carnegie Free Library (home to the Post) is seeking to identify the soldiers in a group picture. You can read more about this in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Look for the article entitled, "Civil War mystery: Do you recognize anyone in this photograph?"

In terms of genealogy, there is an even greater treasure: documents. Battlefield sketches & applications are posted online for free. You can get to the manuscripts by going to their webpage: www(dot)carnegiecarnegie(dot)org Click on the Civil War Room Tag and Espy Post Collection...

Also, the Post has a facebook page. Look for Captain Thomas Espy GAR Post 153. Often they list additional facts about veteran members. FYI.

The Post was locked up and forgotten for decades. It was recently restored to it's original grandeur. One can tour the Post for free every Saturday.

Here are some (but not all) of the names associated with the Post.

A
Aiken, David, Co.
Samuel Phillips who married Margaret Humes in Pennsylvania

I am looking for information on my ancestor Samuel Phillips. He married Margaret Humes in Pennsylvania. His son, Joseph, born in 1818, moved from Pennsylvania to Carroll County, IN sometime before 1843.

I have no birthdate, deathdate or parent info for Samuel Phillips and am hoping someone recognizes him! I have one paper that says he and Margaret came from Meadville, PA.

And I have heard there is a Phillipsburg, PA, but not sure if that's where he came from or not. Hoping to find the original Phillips immigrant.

Thanks!

Philips in India 1870-1880

I have William Philips and wife Matilda in Dugshai, Meerut and Lucknow, India at least between 1870 and 1880. Their children were all born in India, Ellen in 1870 Dugshai, William John in 1873 Meerut and Evelina Mary in 1879 Lucknow. William Snr was a general labourer on the 1881 census for Leeds, Yorkshire so why was he in India with his wife and family. Can anyone help please?

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply to your post. As I said in my original post, Abraham is also my great-great grandfather. His 3rd child, also named Abraham, had a son named Edward. Edward had two sons, one is my father. Here is what I know about Abraham:
Born 1843 in New Jersey; Wounded in the Civil War, 2nd Maryland Co. D
Spouse: Susan E. Hines (she was from Ireland, and was adopted by the Hill family in Georgia.)
Married: 21 June 1866 in Warren County, Georgia
Had 12 children.
After the war, lived in Baltimore, Maryland and was in the printing business. After, he moved to Trenton, New Jersey and then to East New York section of Brooklyn. There, he had a printing shop on Miller Ave., near Atlantic Ave. Also worked for the East New York Record and the E.C. Lampe on Atlantic Ave. In later years was managing the Fort Lee Sentinel in Fort Lee, New Jersey. (Got this info. from a letter written by his youngest child, Herbert.)
Info. I have says your great grandfather, Charles, died on Feb. 14, 1928. Is that correct? Do you have a birthdate for him?
I was wondering if you have a death date and death/burial info. for Abraham. I have cemetery records for a Philips family plot in Brooklyn, NY. Several family members were buried there, including his wife, Susan. But he isn't listed.
You can reply to this message, or, email me directly at
Janem12254@yahoo.com
Thank you!
-Jane
Re: grandparents etal

I am a granddaughter of Herbert Thomson Philips (last child of 12 chidren/ parents A.A. Philips Junior & Susan E. Hines Hill). I have family records showing Julia Ann Shorey married Abraham Atchley Philips Senior (my grandfather's grandfather)and had nine children. There is a Joshua Chase Philips listed as one of those children. The list shows him born Feb. 9th 1857 2:00pm. This is from written family papers not official records. Other of the brothers and sisters are shown as born in NJ but does not say where Joshua was born just date and time. AA Philips Sr shows as born in NJ but also lived in 8th Ward Baltimore Maryland (this shown in an 1850 Baltimore City Census) The census also lists 7 children but not Joshua. Joshua was born in 1857 after this census was taken. The family lived in NJ,Baltimore, and New Hampshire at different times. The other siblings taken from my records are: Thomas, Margaret, Abraham A, John D.,Samuel Farrington Shorey, Henry Edward, Julia Hariet. Perhaps Joshua may have been born in New Hampshire or NJ(?)but also lived in Baltimore. Hope this is of some help.
Anne
