Phillis, Kenneth Phillis, Lois Phillis, Lucille Phillis, Edwin Phillis(uncle), Wilson Phillis(uncle), Og Phillis(uncle) and Tacy Angeline Phillis who married Charles Hershel Fitch. If you have any information I would be happy to hear from you.

Emma was the mother of Og. Lou. Lois, and Ken( deceased) were children of Og with 1st wife Betty. Lou and Louis are still living in Henry County. Lou is my mother. Ed and Wilson are deceased as is Og. Other children of Og are Robert (deceased), Donald (living), William (living), Deloris (deceased), Richard (living). As is mentioned in this thread, there is a family reunion that is very well attended every year near Galesburg, Illinois. There is a pretty well done family history there every year as well.

I have put on the message board information on Emma and James - parents of Og Altus "Jack" Phillis. Emma's family includes the Moody's, Stockdale's, Harper's and Nichols'. I think each line goes back to the Rev. War. You can reach me at kkpfeiffer@msn.com.
Karen Pfeiffer
descended from Abigail Phillis and her brother John. James went by several names James, Frank and JFS. At the Henry County Courthouse his initials JFS Phillis is listed for marriage and children’s birth. I have his watch fob with the initals JFSP on it. Grandma (Gail Isabelle) Shaklee scratched out Shaklee part in the family Bible as she did not want anyone to know that she and Grandpa (Silas Sheldon) were related before marriage. Several Census records list him as JFS Phillis.
The attendants to James and Emma’s wedding were MW Steven and V E Moody who were married July 31, 1886.
According to the Census, James and Emma left Henry Co, IL and went to Beverly, Washington County, OH as Virgil , Granger and Og were born in Ohio. They were living in Morgan County Ohio at the time of the 1900 Census.
James was the youngest child and reported spoiled. He went by different names in different areas which makes one wonder what he was doing that he shouldn’t. He was the only one in his family to move very far west (Illinois). What caused him to pack up his family and move to Ohio? What kind of trouble was he in or caused?
In the 1910 Census, Emma and children were living in Henry County Illinois and James was living in Nebraska using the name John FS Phillis. In the 1920 Census Emma was living with Gail and Silas “Sheldon” in Henry County Illinois. She came to live with them when Evelyn was born as she was such a tiny baby.
Were James and Emma divorced?? It is said that Emma kicked James out of the house when he started getting abusive to the children. Most people agree that James deserted the family. Emma packed up the family and moved back to Henry County, IL. It is believed her brothers sent her money to achieve this. She came back with 7 children. (Og Phillis) Emma spent the rest of her life living from one place to another, never having a home of her own.

Was James married to Catherine Wilson, daughter Hilda Phillis??? In Ohio
Did Catherine die? What happened to Hilda?? (Lois Miller disc 27 pin 229810 lds)
Could this marriage have happened when James and Emma went back to Ohio and caused them to split???

James was killed by a bull. (aleigha)

Was Ray the one who was pushed off some steps and died from head injuries? Did he die in OH? Was his body brought back to IL or it just a stone at Clover Chapel?

1900 Census Center Township, Morgan County OH
JFS Phillis	w	m	March 1859	41	OH	farmer
Emma w	f	July 1860	39	OH
Leo L w	m	Sept 1886	13	IL
Ray A w m	July	1888	11	IL
Nelson W	w m	Nov	1889	10	IL
Gail I w	f	Sept 1891	8	IL
Wilson B	w	m	Apr	1894	6	IL
Not named	w	m	May	1896	4	OH
Granger E	w	m	Mar	1898	2	OH
Infant w	m	Mar	1900	3 mos	OH

1910 Census	Dist 112, Clover, Henry Co, IL	260/268
Emma Phillis 49	IL
Virgil I Phillis 14	OH
Edwin G Phillis	12	OH
Og E Phillis 10	OH
Tacy A Phillis 7	OH

1910 Census	Dist 112, Clover, Henry Co, IL 313/319
Fremont Peak	38	IL	farmer
Mary C Peak	35	IL
Millie M Peak	16	IL
Willam C Peak	8	IL
Walfred S Congstron	29	IL servant
Carl C Congstron	25	IL servant
William O Congstron	19	IL servant
Gale Phillis 18	IL	servant

1910 Census	Dist 112, Clover, Henry Co, IL 261/247
Peter Norberg
Wilson Phillis 16	IL	servant

James is not with the rest of the family.
Yes, this Margaret Phillis was married to John Andrew Phillis. Margaret and John were my grandparents and both died long before I was born. However, I am still connected to them as I live in the house where they last lived.

Lance Corporal Frederick John Phillis New Zealand Rifle Brigade

Lance Corporal Frederick John Phillis was a member of the 3rd Battalion of the "Dinks" - the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. He was born in 1892, had been educated at Harewood School and before enlistment in 1916 had worked as a miner at Waiuta in Southland. He arrived in France in March 1917 and was involved in the battle at Messines. He was detached to the Brigade School for some time, rejoining his unit on 5 October 1917. Phillis survived the debacle at Passchendaele and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 29 November 1917, possibly to replace a comrade killed in the struggles near Polygon Wood. He was wounded in the abdomen on 27 March 1918 trying to halt the massive German offensive near Amiens on the Somme, evacuated for treatment but died two days later and is buried in the Étaples Military cemetery

http://www.pap-to-pass.org/Phillis.htm
First I would like to thank Cathy again for locating and allowing the reposting Lizzie’s Obit. I agree with Cathy that the surname Phillis did not appear anywhere within the obit. I added Lizzie’s maiden name in brackets to indicate that she is connected to the Phillis family. Otherwise, it is often difficult for researchers to quickly see a persons connection to a surname board.

For those who are connected to Lizzie, she was born as Elizabeth C. Phillis, daughter of Joseph John Phillis and Mary Beightel.

It might be interesting to see who the other Phillis researchers see this issue.
Should the surname be added in brackets or would it be better to add a note at the bottom.
If you have any opinions as to should the surname be added, please respond via the Phillis Mailing list.

Either way, I strongly feel that the maiden name, even if it is not listed in the obit belongs as part of the Subject line.
