Have relatives from Chiusano as well. Mainly De Marco, Ferullo. However, Gaetana Picardi b.1817 married(1840)to Antonio De Marco b.1808. There son Luigi De Marco b. 1855, was my grandmothers father Margherita (Margaret) b. 1907. Gaetana's fathers name was Palmieri Picardi b.1790. If you have any link please pass on the info.
I seem to have only one "Giglio" in my Cataldo tree. I have as follows: Palma Giglio
Married Carmine Fuccillo
they had a daughter Marie Carmela Fuccillo
b: 1862 in Chiusano
she married Salvatore Cataldo
b: 26 Apr 1853 in Chiusano
they married: 1 Oct 1887 in Chiusano
Their Children were: 1) Ernesto Cataldo
b: 24 Oct 1888 in Chiusano
d; 6 Jun 1893 in Chiusano
2) Bonacio Cataldo
b: 5 Jun 1891 in Chiusano
d: 12 Jun 1978 in Malden, Middlesex county, Massachusetts: He married Marie Carmela Celata, they had 7 children all born in Massachusetts
3) Ernesto Rafaele Cataldo
b: 24 Oct 1893 in Chiusano
4) Maria Teresa Cataldo
b: 4 Dec 1897 in Chiusano

Hope this helps a little. It's amazing how a piece here and a piece there finally puts the puzzle together. I got lucky and made contact with 3 people that had pieces and was able to put much together.

I am looking for any information on the Giglio family tht lived in Chiusano, Italy. Some of the family moved to Revere, MA. My great grandmother came here to the North End approx. 1898 a little before married my great grandfather Beniamino VENA, and my great grandmother died giving birth to my grandmother on Hanover Street in the North End in 1899 and all contact lost with Giglio family. many years ago this happened but I can't get her out of my mind or the fact I have a family out there that i do not know.
have you had any luck on finding Cataldo, any help would be appreciated. there are 37 results in the phone directory in Chiusano for Cataldo have you checked this site?
http://en.comuni-italiani.it/064/028/telefono.html

Thank you for the response. I like to have info comfirmed by a couple sources and what you gave me helps. I do not know why my grandfather (Michael Cataldo, brother of Ernest and Luigi)had on his death certificate listed as his mother's name "Itania Bruno". My oldest uncle gave the info, my grandmother was alive so I always thought it was accurate. Since I wrote the message I have been able to varify the mother's name as Maria Gaetana Dello Russo. Just FYI there were 23 or 24 children born to them, same mother and father, as the family says 19 were boys. No wonder there are so many Cataldos. By the way I have 15 names so far.

I seem to have the info you may be looking for. I do have Luigi, Ernest and Michele's mother listed as Maria Gaetana delloRusso born 17 November 1838, (14 children total). A kinship report does not show her or her husband Domenic related to any Bruno's. (Bruno is a name also found in Chiusano)

Angelo's name appears to be Giovanni Angelo Raffaele Cataldo (B:24 Sep 1880 D:6 Jul 1908)
Jim Celata

Sorry I have not been in touch, but some times life gets in the way of genealogy, esp vacation!

You need to be more specific with the names you gave me. What is Luigi's last name, same with Ernest Michael. I have over 5,000 names on my tree, many duplicate names as well! Their birth/death dates would also be helpful.

I believe that Itania Bruno is a nickname it is probably in the local dialect of Chiusano. My guess is brown/dark italian.

I never claimed to have all the information that you want. The records of Chiusano can be attained by going to any Mormon Temple. These records are difficult to read, as they are in italian (often local dialect)and hand written in the writting style of the time. Also, I recieved much of this information from a very distant relatative (I did not do the research). I have been to Chiusano and made an appointment with the town hall to look at the records, checking a number of individuals that were missing on my tree at that time, so I speak from experience. It is easy to skip over names and birthdates. Why I do not have Michael or Angelo could be due to this fact, or just missed.

I am sorry that I do not have all the information that you are looking for. I too have lots of loose ends. Sadly, it is part of the process.

You sent me info regarding the Cataldos. Since then I have been going crazy trying to rectify the mother of Luigi, Ernest Michael etc. In the back of my mind I feel you are correct that her name was Maria Dello Russo. But for the life of me I don't know where my uncle got the name "Itana Bruno". And again on the info you sent me you have Luigi, Ernest and Antonio but not Michael and Angelo. I just went through some old records and I made a notation from a ships manifest regarding Angelo that his destination was to see his brother Luigi. I hate having "loose ends" I would so appreciate it if you could help me clear this up

Thanks

I have bad and good news. Sorry, no names from your list are on my family tree. My paternal grandmother (Fiorinda Cataldo) was a Cataldo, so we are probably related (you will find that there is a lot of inter-family marriages (ie: Fiorinda married her first cousin Giuseppe Maria Picardi)!

My first suggestion is to contact Jim Celeta. You can contact him through ancestry.com. He also responded in the same chain as you and I. He has done extensive research in Utah. Like me, he gladly gives out the information for free. He has also just returned from Chiusano. He is in contact with family there. To contact him go to the messages for Picardi and look for Celata message and click on his message and write to him. I think he has done the whole town! Any problems, let me know and I will gladly contact him for you. If he has no information, I have used Joe DeSimone. He did my initial work a number of years ago. He is cheaper than other researchers that I used for La Marche Region (my mom's side). The cost was more than double. I also hired him to meet me in Chiusano 4 years ago, so I have met him. We went to Town Hall, looked up a number of records that I needed. We visited the cemetery and toured around town. We tried finding a Picardi, but the town was emty. They were picking chestnuts! All hands were on deck! In short I have met him and know him. You can reach him at joeusa@tin.it. Another friend of mine used him and was also very pleased with his work.

I am sad that I can not help you. If you need or want to contact me again e-mail me at jmpjnreggie@verizon.net. Will gladly help you in any way I can.

As above, I have been to the town. I have a lot of pictures from my visit and from the internet. Would be glad to pass them on to you.

I am sending you 2 picture of the church where your family recieved their sacraments!

Buona fortuna!

Thank you for your reply. You did seem to have a lot of info about your your relatives in Chuisano. I have reached a dead end once I try to get info before my grandparents camce to the US. I was wondering how or who you contacted to obtain info from Italy. I have not been able to obtain any info from Ancestry as for info from Italy. One of my BIG drawbacks is that I don't speak Italian and there are none left in my family that does.

Camella Marra and Michael Cataldo were my grandparents, came to US in 1900, as well as brothers Andrew, Antonio, Luigi, Ernest, Angelo.(came to US from 1895 to 1910). their parents were Doninic Cataldo and Itania Bruno. Family story is they had a vineyard and came from a family of 23, that is really all I know of their background in Italy.

If you have any hints on researching in Italy I'd love to know how to go about it. Thanks again for responding.

The mormon church has a lot of birth, death marriage dates. Go to a local mormon temple. They can order the files for you. They will be delived to the local temple for a certain amount of time for you to look at.

Also, I have a lot of information on Picardi's from Chiusano (both of my paternal grandparents were from Chiusano. If you give me your mother's name and birth date (and other names as well). I can see if I have any information on her and others. Birth dates are needed as there are many with the same names. Will be glad to share any information I have for free. Don't want this information to die with me!

I am looking for information on Cataldo that lived in Revere, Massachusetts. My grandfather was Michael Cataldo and Grandmother was Carmella (Marra). Carmella's mother was Annie, lived in the North End of Boston. Would love to know more background on their family in Chiusano. Family stories say Carmella was a cook for my grandfather's family. Michael came from a large family of 23 and about 5 brothers came to US. In Italy they had a vineyard.

My name is John Picardi, I am the great grandson of Giuseppe Maria Picardi, the oldest brother of Giacomo (James). I do have a death date for a death date for Louis in NYC. I have yet to research this totally. Just need to head to NYC to see if it is this Louis. On ancestry.com a Louis Picardi is listed in Social Security Deaths. It is his birthday.

I also have extended research into our italian roots. I can go back to the late 1700's-early 1800's. I have also been to Chiusano and have pictures.

Would like to share all information that I have.

I too have found that John disappears from sight as well.

Did you know that Giacomo & Lucia were first cousins??

Hope to hear from you!

I read your posting and responded to the original person's posting also. My grandparents were Luigi Picardi and Philomena Marotta, both from Chiusano, Avellino, Italy. Philomena's siblings were Josephina, Amato, Orlando and Matilda, maybe others. Luigi's sisters were Caroline and Mary. My grandparents immigrated to Boston in the early 1900's. They had 7 children: William, Ralph, Louis, Arthur, John, Leonard, and Catherine. I would be very interested in any family tree information that you have. My father told me that his parents home town was small, so I am guessing we must be related.

I'm a student at the University of Connecticut and am searching for information

concerning my great-grandmother Lena PICARDI for a class I am taking. I believe her

first name of Lena was shortened from Michelina. Her maiden name was MARINI and

she immigrated to the United States (in 1904?) from Italy (Avellino?) before settling

down in Essex County, Newark, New Jersey. She was born in 1867? and died in the

1950's. She and her husband, Angelo Picardi, had twelve children including

my grandfather, Armand A. Picardi, who was born in 1908 and died in 1966. The other

children were Mariano, Eugene, Rudolph, Albert, George, Angelina, Mary, Linda, Lena,

Josephine, and Irene. If you know if there is any information about her and/or her

family, it would be greatly appreciated.

Greg Picardi

Researching: PICARDI, MARINI, MATTURRI, MASI, FARACLAS, PHOTAKIS,

TRIPODES, MARCOIS

I am the great grandson of Giuseppe Maria Picardi. My family comes from the town of Chiusano di San Domenico, Provence of Avelino, Region of Campania. The town is located about 1 hour East of Naples.

Giuseppe was the son of Arcangelo Picardi and Carmela Matarazzo. To my knowledge, he had two brothers Giacomo and Michele (Michael) and a sister, Marianna. Marianna became a nun and never left Italy. All three brother came to the US and eventually lived in East Boston, MA.

Giuseppe married his first cousin, Fiorinda (Florinda) Cataldo in Italy. They arrived at Ellis Island in 1894. They eventually had 10 children.

A few months ago, I hired a researcher in Italy to trace my family in Italy. I am willing to share info with anyone who might share my ancestry.

I am looking for Luigi (M. ?)Picardi, my grandfather. Born @ 1902 is my best guess in East Boston I think. Is this possibly your dad? He married Violet Nicosia, my grandmother, in East Boston on June 8, 1930. Violet was granted a divorce by the Catholic Church (Sacred Heart in Boston) in 1940 after Luigi abandoned his family in 1933. Luigi was a machinist.

your trans.seems to dovetail with my family ancestry ,but not directly.my great grandfather ,Luigi Picardi ,was a wine merchant in Chiusano(c.1850) wife was Petronilla Rizzo Picardi-children=Carmine,Raffaele(mine),Giuseppe, Carmela,Teresa,Concetta,(c.1853-1870+-) Carmine-Raffaele signed on as itinerant masons 1882 .Raffaele(mine) was killed building addition to the BostonPublic Library Dec 8 1897.. There is also a Maruotto(Marotto) in my background.
Raffaele & Catarina DelOrfanoPicardi's cildren were Luigi,(my dad) Carolina,Maria (c.1880-1889) . Spent 2 trips to Avellino-Chiusano,researching, many Picardi families there. picked up much family background through a Pompilio Reppucci whose mother was a picardi and his uncle a priest.
Strange how similar (but not related ) was your trans to mine.
Hi Andrea, I too have family from Chiusano di San Dominico, Italy with the name Picardi. My great grandmother was Gaetana Vitcoria Picardi born 1819. Her parents were Agustino Picardi born about 1788 and Maddalena Cataldo born about 1796. Gaetana Picardi was married to Carmine Maruotto on Sept.13 1839. I have a Chiusano telephone book and there are about 50 Picardi's listed in the village which has about 2,200 people. Picardi' is a very common name in Chiusano. I will be glad to help if I can.

I just read your message regarding your grandparents Rudolph Picardi and Amalia Bottillo. If they were married in Boston try contacting the Sacret Heart Church, 12 North Square, Boston, Massachusetts 02113. Tell them that you want all the information they have, such as where they lived before they got married, where they lived in Italy, who was the Best Man, Maid of Honor, and who were their parents. If they have it they will send it to you at no charge but a small donation would be nice, $5.00 or $ 10.00. They were a big help to getting me started. I too have Pacardi's in my family.

Maria Raffaela Picardi Born abt 1873 Married Raffaele dello Russo on 13 Feb 1892, in Chiusano Italy. Her Parents were Gaetano Picardi and Maria Michela di Napoli married in Chiusano Italy 8 July 1871. Sounds like what you are looking for?? All were probably born in Chiusano.

Chiusano San Domenico is a small town in the Province of Avellino. It is located a few miles north of the City of Avellino and just East of Naples

Angela,
Hi Ang how are you? What a great surprise to see you on here. Tony and I decided to look on here also. Most of Jims relatives from your dads side I believe livedin Venezuela and Florida but once again, I'm not sure. I only remeber your dad talking about your grandfathers brother and that was it.
Hope we find information. Feel free to e-mail Tony and myself hope to see you next summer. Tell everyone hi. How is your little Angel? picmyers@sierratel.com

Picardi Family Tree

Any info much appreciated! I have only just started trying to construct my family tree! I am the daughter of "Rudolph" and niece of "Samuel", who were both born in the Newark/East Orange area of NJ in the 1940's. My Grandfather's name was "Charles" (1914-1995); my paternal grandmother was "Anna Picardi", nee "Spadone" (dec'd 1966, NJ)). My Grandfather was one of eight brothers and sisters born in the Boston, Massachussetts area (Guy, Philip, Theresa Borelli (nee Picardi), Mary, Margaret, Josephine, Julia). Their mother died approx. 1920.

I suspect our line may be related to the huge "Picardi" contingent in Boston; my theory is that my great-grandfather emigrated to this area along with his parents and siblings, but at present, I cannot prove whether he was a child or adult when he came to America.

Possible names of great-grandparents, "Rudolph" and "Amelia"; but I am awaiting confirmation on this.

Please contact me by email in the first instance (I live in London) if you think you can help. Even the smallest info I will be grateful for!! Thank you!

Picardi's in Boston

Did you see Ralph's message? His line are also from Avallino, which may be of interest to you. My particular family were from Naples, however that doesn't mean they are not linked somewhere further back! (Actually, I have no idea as to the geographical relationship between Avalino to the Naples area). My great-grandparents emigrated to Boston circa 1903 and then moved to Lowell MA. My email is christracy@tpavlou.freeserve.co.uk if you would like to email me direct!
Best wishes, Tracy Pavlou (London)
