In looking back at the birth record of James Pickett, I see it says b. Cane Creek MM, Orange Co. NC. He and Priscilla Pike were married Cane Creek MM Chatham Co. NC.

Counties change through the years. Chatham was formed from Orange Co., and a part of Chatham later became southern Alamance County. Cane Creek MM is located near Snow Camp, southern Alamance County. As far as I can determine from its history, it is all the same Cane Creek MM.

You are in luck! Your Pickett ancestors were Quakers and they kept records of births, marriages and deaths in what are called Monthly Meetings. Here is a link to Spiceland Monthly Meetings (Henry Co. IN). The address is very long. If it does not come through do a Google Search for Spiceland Monthly Meetings and you will find the link.

http://www.indianahistory.org/our-services/books-publication...

Scroll all the way down to the Pickett names. James Pickett, b. 2-13-1804, Cane Creek MM (which was in Chatham Co. NC). s/o John and Rebecca (Woody) Pickett.
It shows his first wife was Priscilla Pike, who died about 1826 in NC. They had one child, William.
Then the 2nd marriage was to Mary Way. They were married 3-3-1827, White River MM (in Randolph Co. IN). It lists the many children of James and Mary (Way) Pickett, the first was Elihu.

Findagrave.com has a photo of the tombstone of Elihu Pickett, buried South Salem Cemetery, Henry Co. IA. Inscribed is the word “Minister.” He might have been a part of the Quaker settlement in Salem, Henry Co. IA. If I have the right Elihu Pickett, his first wife, Eunice, must have died in IN. His wife is shown as Nancy in later census records and on the tombstone. I did see Eunice on the 1860 IN census.

Although many books have been published with Quaker Monthly Meeting records, I have not found many online. This was a lucky break.

My Picketts also came from Chatham Co. NC into Indiana. I don’t have my line any further back than my gggrandfather, Joab Pickett, b. about 1798. He first showed up as a Head of Household on the 1820 Chatham Co. NC census. Our Pickett lines might be connected further back, but I cannot make the link.

I am researching the Pickett Genealogy Line and I can trace it from Clyde (and Grace)to William Franklin (and Alice)to Elihu (and Eunice) to James and (Priscilla Pike or Mary Way?)

I find that James' first wife Priscilla died at a very young age and then he Marries shortly after that to Mary Way. Can someone tell which was Elihu's Mother?

Pickett's of the Boston, MA area

Hi,

I am a long time pickett researcher. My US immigrant ancestor was John Goodburn Clark Pickett who came to Boston, MA, USA from London, England in 1824. I have information about most of his descendants. Looking for stories, pictures etc. to fill in detail. Will share all I have. The Pickett roots in London are a little murky, but his parents were Robert and Sarah Pickett who both died in the Wandsworth, Surrey, England workhouse in the 1840's and were married in the Greater London area in 1800. Nearly 100 years or more of this line were stone masons or stone pointers.

Bill Pickett

There may be a connection, but I don't have an Emeline in my tree. She's not Isaac's sister, altho she would be the right age. A cousin--maybe? I've recently discovered a Pickett family Bible, and there is no Emeline listed there. I have some indication that Isaac's parents were from Connecticut. Hope this helps a little!

I'm looking for the family of Emeline Pickett, b in 1810 in New York. Her parents were from Connecticut. She married Daniel Douglass of Walworth NY (east of Rochester). Emeline and Daniel Douglass moved to Michigan, possibly somewhere near Albion. They had children: Clemenza, Hannah M, Henry H, and Arenton (also spelled Arrington). They moved to Elkhart, Indiana by 1850. Daniel Douglass died by 1860. Emeline moved to Minnesota with her son, Arrington. Her other son, Henry Douglass, and his wife moved to Minnesota, also.

Conelia (Cornelia) and Abe Pickett

I'm researching my great great grandmother Conelia Pickett. According to an 1880 census showing my gg grandmother Cornelia she was 33 years old born in Virginia and married to Abe Pickett 63 born in South Carolina.

Abe and Cornelia had one son together in 1879. His name was US Grant Pickett, he was 6 months old in 1880 at the time of the Census.

Cornelia had four other children living with them; her oldest son 17 yrs old named Anderson Weaver born in Arkansas and twin mulatto daughters Ada and Ida Burkes 9 yrs old born in Texas and finally daughter Moddie Owens (Moddie I believe was Maude) she was 5 yrs old also born in Texas.

I'm interested in the lives of Abe and Cornelia, when and where they met, how long they were married, did Abe have other children that would have been half siblings to US Grant Pickett (later called Sam or Samuel). I'd like to know when and where he passed and was buried and if his line has continued.

As I understand it US Grant Pickett died as a young man, never married, never had any children to carry his name.

Any information you may have on Abe and Cornelia will be greatly appreciated.

Someone by the name of Sheila has contacted me online through Ancestry stating that she is researching her Pickett family and was told that all African Americans with the last name of Pickett were related. She also mentioned a great grandmother and a great great grandmother both named Cornelia. She was hoping that my information would help her search. She stated that one of her Cornelia's was married to an Abe Pickett. Perhaps we are related through my great grand uncle Sam.

Please contact me at Joanetta4 on Ancestry or joanie1968@gmail.com my email address.

Sincerely

I came across some of dad's slides that I thought were the farm my grandfather had lived on in Tennessee but there wasn't any identification on them to let me know for sure.

We purchased a free standing type kitchen cabinet from Nellie - probably in the early 70's. She was living in an apartment on Washington Street In Winchester at that time.
Thank you for the reply.
Orval Pickett, son of Edmund Pickett, was my grandfather, William Allen Pickett's brother. I have that he died Dec. 18, 1957. I have pictures of 4 of Pickett brothers, Walter, Fred, William, & Dick in 1958 and none of Oval in 1958. Nellie is in some of these 1958 pictures.

I do not see a connection in my Brightling Pickett and yours. There could be a branch in there somewhere. Nathan B is a long was from England in time and I doubt he would have been named for a place there. Too much time between England and CT and Ala. Let me know if you find anything interesting. Elizabeth

Nathan Brightling Pickett b. 1872 Alabama d. 1954 Ms.

His great great grand was Daniel Pickett, Sr. b. 1780 CT died 1855.

I can only trace my Picketts to North Carolina, but they may have come from Virginia originally. I believe that "Brightling" is a place in England, but I don't know if that is the origin of your ancestor's name.

If anyone out there can help me, I'd appreciate it. I've tried, with no luck, to find my third great grandfather's parents. Bright Pickett, b. 1800 in Johnston County, NC;
married Richmond County, GA in 1828 to Elizabeth Cole;
died in 1873 Newton, GA. My second great grandfather was Stephen Francis Marion Pickett, Bright's second son.
Could "Bright" have been a nickname for "Bryant?" His first son was named John Bryant, that is why I wonder. Or perhaps "Bright" was his mother's maiden name. I just don't know.

Carolina in 1947, and Jack Jeffrey or Jeffery born in 1948 and they got married in Sonoma County, California on 10/9/1969. It's said they had a daughter named Dawn R. Jeffery or Jeffrey on 1/24/1967, born in Sonoma. So it's strange tome that I would be put up for adoption since they already had a kid. If you have any information on any relative, please let me know, thank you kindly.

I believe Silas to be one of my grandfathers. He has a son, William. I have DNA where we are trying to find a match. We have not found one yet. We are from the Illinois area.

I have found a couple of documents related to Orval E. Pickett. For a point of reference using birth information, Orval E. Pickett, 1900 Tennessee census, b. IN, son of Edmund Pickett. It gives his birth date as Sept 1883. The 2 documents I found have his name shown as Orval Evert Pickett.

From familysearch.org: 1942 Draft Registration for men born on or after April 28, 1877 and on or before Feb 16, 1897.

Orval Evert Pickett, address Winchester, Randolph Co. IN. Born 21 Sep 1883 in Randolph Co. IN. Person who will always know where your are: Mrs. Orval Pickett. The registration was signed by the registrant as Orval Evert Pickett.

When I did a Google search this WWI draft registration came up:

Orval Evert Pickett, b. 21 Sep 1883. The registration took place in Polk Co. Florida. Ancestry.com shows the same information in the WWI Draft Registration Index, but I don’t have a subscription so I can’t open the image.

Even with this added information I still cannot find them in 1920 or 1930.
I have not looked too much on Orville's family but I did find that his parents were Edmond W. Pickett, born 1863 in Indiana and Emma North, born 1863 in Indiana. They were married Oct 3, 1882 in Randolph County, Indiana.

As far as I can tell I am not related, although I did find this Pickett line went back into NC, apparently in the Randolph Co. NC area, and they were Quakers. My Pickett line came into IN from Chatham Co. NC. I believe they lived in the area of Cane Creek MM.

I will do a little more looking to see if I can come up with anything.
