Piedad Cisneros/Head/Hill/Nelson. This information is from my uncle (now passed on) and from several decades ago. Piedad was a half-sister to Manuelita Alire and David Alire. The mother to Manuelita and David was Maria Ignacita Martinez who is also the mother to my grandfather, Jose Epifanio de Jesus Martinez. Maria Ignacita/Ignacia Martinez is the main focus of my attention. Piedad was adopted by a wealthy man with the last name of Caveza (or Cabeza). While researching “Piedad Hill”, I ran across information for Lafayette Head and it struck me that Cabeza is the Spanish word for head. And Lafayette Head was also known as Rafael Caveza/Cabeza. Piedad’s first husband was a “Dr. Hill” who was born in England. They had a son named George Hill. According to my uncle, George went through the family fortune and spent it all. I have more information but it will not all fit on this msg board. If you want it, please email me at gallegosc76021@comcast.net. Also, if you have information regarding Maria Ignacia Martinez, I would appreciate it. She is kind of my brick wall right now.
I am still looking for information. I appreciate your reply. I found Maria's name on Lafayette's tombstone and assuming her to be a grand-daughter of Lafayette Head. I have some information on the Head's but nothing on his wife or grand-daughter families. Can you send me a copy of the picture? What do you know of the Heads? thanks - Kenneth Head

Maria Piedad Sisneras Hill? She had a son named George Hill? I don't know if you're still looking for information, but I have found a picture of them with Lafayette Head in the book, Conejos Country, by Frances Harvey Mead. The picture is from Gwendolyn Hill. My great-great aunt, Ana Maria Chavez married Juan Manuel Romero on 16 Jan 1888 in Las Mesitas and George Hill and Maria Piedad Sisneros were listed as the witnesses. Ana Maria Chavez was baptised on 11 Dec 1874 and her padrinos were Antonio Cisneros and Maria Virginia Martinez. If you have any info on these people I would really appreciate it. Ana Maria's mother was Maria Josefa (Josefita) Martinez and am wonder if there is a relationship here. Also, Josefita was possibly Tewa according to family stories.
Mr. Head,

I noticed your inquiry regarding Piedad. I am Dr. Estevan Rael-Galvez and am the State Historian of New Mexico. I am also working on a book that includes information on Lafayette Head and his family and would love to correspond. My email is estevan.rael-galvez@state.nm.us

Any information on a Maria Piedad Hill - Conesjos Colorado

Searching for any information on Maria Piedad Hill. From a tombstone marker of my 3rd great grand uncle Major, Lafayette Head & Maria Martina (Martinez) in Conesjos City Cemetery in Conesjos Colorado, Maria is listed as a granddaughter of Lafayette & Maria Head. Listing her birth as 1864, death as 1904. Lafayette Head was an Indian agent for the Federal Government during the 1850's - 1870's in the New Mexico and Colorado Territories. Was Colorado's 1st Lt. Governor. Lafayette & Maria were thought to have adopted between 20-30 Native American children during their lifetime. I have not been able to locate any ties to someone by the name of "Piedad" or a "Mr. Hill" in this area of Colorado. I am currently checking the 1885 Colorado State Census records. Any help would be appreciated.
