Holy crap!!!! Someone else is looking at my family.
Phebe Pier and Bernard Doyle are my g-grandparents. Yes that is only one g. Seems everyone in this line waits to have children.
Margaret Doyle (daughter of Phebe & Bernard) married Charles Wesley Barker.
Margaret and Charles had one son - Charles Bernard Barker - my dad.
I have in my physical possession the discharge papers from the Civil War of both Bernard Doyle and George Washington Pier. This is what got me started in genealogy.

I am very interested in a copy of Phebe's will and any other information you have. I am willing to provide you with scanned images of the discharge papers.

BTW George Washington Pier (sometimes simply called Washington) died in the war. The two discharge papers have remained together all these years and I had to research to find the relationship.

I'm afraid I may have the wrong Russell Pier, he spelled his name with 2 ls as far as I know, but some census reports list him as Russel Pier. He was my great-grandfather. I never met him. He died in 1956 if it's the correct one. He was born in 1888 in Wayne, Michigan. My mother never got a chance to meet him due to an ugly family dispute.

Again, I don't think this is the correct one, but maybe he was a distant relative to your great-great grandfather. I have no idea if any of my ancestors were Revolutionary War patriots or not.

Looking for nieces, nephews and cousins of my great-grandfather, RUSSELL A. PIER or RUSSELL ALGER PIER, born in Wayne, MI, also lived in Kalamazoo, MI and possibly Chicago. May have been a WWI veteran. I believe that he may be buried in a cemetery in the Milwaukee, WI area. He also may have spent time in a Veterans' home in or near Milwaukee.

My great-grandmother Maude Pier divorced him in the 1920s before my mother was born. We don't know if he ever remarried. The only children of that marriage are now deceased. The other living desendants that I know of, are my mother, my uncle and 4 cousins. I'm trying to find out if there are any other living relatives my great-grandfather's side of the family.

Looking for further information on Benjamin E. Pier born Feb 1884, probably Clarke Co., Virginia - one of many children of Perry & Mary Griffith Pier.

I believe that this is the same Benjamin E. Pier that married Anna Mae Gordon Williams in Tombstone, Cochise Co., Arizona 25 Jul 1927. They had one child, Jacqueline Lavonne Pier b 5 Jul 1928 in Los Angeles, CA. Benjamin died 14 Aug 1932 in Tucson, Pima, Arizona. I have copy of death record that shows his parents as Perry Washington Pier and Mary E. Griffith.

The marriage record and death record both have the name of "Benjamin E. Pier" however, he went by the name of John "Jack" Rufus Pier." Why? His occupation was truck driver.

I believe that he may have had another family in Washington DC. On the 1930 Washington DC census, Washington City, ED129, there is Benjamin E. Pier, age 44, born Virginia.
Since his parents and siblings were also in Washington DC, I believe that this is the same person as married Anna Mae Gordon Williams. He and Anna are listed on the 1930 California, Los Angeles, LA, census with daughter, Jacqueline and stepchildren.

If anyone has additional information to either prove or disprove my theory, I would appreciate hearing from you.
David Pier was the son of John J. Pier (born abt. 1790 Caldwell Twp. (Fairfield)), NJ and Sara ? (born abt. 1789 NJ). I believe that David Pier's first wife was Elizabeth ?(born abt. 1820 NJ) and she is the mother of John A. Pier born abt. 1841. See the 1850 Caldwell Twp., census. David's 2nd wife was Rachel Ann Van Duyne and they had 4 children (Sarah A., Williard, Anthony & Elmira). Williard married Mary Emma Dehart (born 1863 in Beavertown (present day Litte Falls), NJ. They had 4 kids (Emmons Floyd, Mervyn Lewis, Ada F and Grace B. I believe that David Pier (born abt. 1813 Caldwell Twp. (Fairfield, NJ) on Pier Lane decended from Johannes Pier (1730) and Hester Van Ness (1731-1820) through their son David (born date? in Fairfield, NJ). I also know that Johannes & Hester had other children: Isaac (born 1759) who married Marritje Post, Nailtje (or married Jacob Doremus), Susannah & Yanntje. Please share any information you have. I live in West Caldwell, NJ & I am actually related to the Bushs of Caldwell Twp.(W. Caldwell) & the Paxtons of Bloomfield, Clifton, Montclair area... (Mary Emma Dehart's mother was a Paxton.)
You mentioned your great grandmother.. Annie Peer b. Fairmount.

My rearching has stopped at an Albert Peer b. [I'm guessing] about 1860s or 70s. I know his is buried in Fairmount, but I haven't had a chance to check the dates...
I have no idea who his parents/siblings/wife are. I can't find them in the Census before 1920, only his son Burton's WWI Draft.

I was told he had 2 daughters, and one son [whom I am researching] Burton Peer b. Jun 1894/1895 Middle Valley or Chester, Morris, NJ (I've even seen 1895/1896) He lived in Chester, Randolph, Roxberry & Kenvil before moving to Florida later in life. He married a Pearl Johnson & a Nancy Malson. I am researching his son Albert. I was told there were a lot of Alberts & Burton's.

I was wondering if this Albert (b. 1860s?) fits into your tree in anyway or if you had any information?? Thank you.

PEER BOOK - call for submissions

Hello all Peer/Pier descendants!

My book on the PEER family of New Jersey and Ontario is
almost complete after 20 years of research. I have traced
all of Jacob & Anne Peer's children and descendants to the
early 1900s. The Peer book that I intend to publish will
follow Jacob & Anne's descendants to 7 generations. It is
fully sourced and footnoted, with many images of original
documents such as wills, land records, letters, photographs
and census records.

While the Peer family settled in Ontario from New Jersey in 1796, many of their descendants went on to Michigan, Illinois, New YOrk, Pennsylvania and other states.

I am also including other Peer families - families which are either proven to not fit into our line of
Jacob & Anne, or families whose placement is at present
unknown.

At this point in the documentation process I am calling on
submissions of documents. If you are a Peer descendant, I
encourage you to submit your photographs (beore 1900 only
please) and other documents or documentation on your lines.
If you submit records which are unknown to me, I will use
them in the Peer book with full credit to you as the source.

Please understand that after 20 years of research there is a
good chance I may already have what you submit, and if so,
your name will not be used in the credits.

In order to help descendants figure out if their family is
currently in the book, I have put indexes online for each of
the Peer family groups that will be in my book.

http://olivetreegenealogy.com/books/peer-book.shtml

Please feel free to write to me first at
olivetreegenealogyATgmail.com (replace AT with @) to ask if I have the documents you are willing to share.

Hoping to hear from all interested PEER/PIER/PEAR
researchers!

Lorine
Anything you have on the family would be great. I have traced my father's Peer's from Jersey City to Fairfield through children's birth certificates. They must have moved to Jersey City between 1850 and 1860. There were only a few Peer/Piers in Jersey City and a George W. Pier and family in Hoboken at the time.
Perhaps the Peer (John Peer and Ann Jacobus) children's names would prove interesting. They were: Barney, Leonard, Richard R. ,Elias (Edward), Benjamin, Emma J., Walter, Thomas D., and David.
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it!
Take Care,
Eileen

Yes, we are connected. My line starts from Tunis to his son Jacob to Jacob's son Johannes, to Johannes son Petrus to his son Cornelius to his son Edward to his son William and finally to my dear father Stanley who died in 2000 at 92. I just happen to be reorganizaing my Pier/Peer info from my collection of notebooks so it is a good time to find info for you. I will look over what you sent me so as to send you mostly what i have on your line specifically. My line is indeed from Caldwells, Fairfield area. I will get back to you asap!

Hi,
I would appreciate if you could send me what you have as our lines appear to be connected. Did your family settle in Fairfield (West Caldwell). I have led mine back from Jersey City to Fairfield, Little Falls, and surroundings in NJ.

My is also from the Dutch immigrants, but since I am remodeling I can't get to my information. What I do have is: Jan Teuniszen to Tunis Jansen to Johannes Pier Sr. to Johannes Pier Jr. (married Hester Van Ness) to David Pier (married Sarah Berry) to John D. Pier (married Margaret Doremus) to John Peer (married Ann Jacobus) to Thomas D. to Harry to Harold, my father.
Thanks for any help. For most of the earliest info, I am relying on second hand data, i.e., from Johannes Pier, Sr. backwards
Take Care,
Eileen

Re: PEER

Hello Inez

Charles was the s/o John Peer and Nancy Harris. He married first in 1843 in Halton Co. to Eliza Galway [Source: Gore District Marriage Register 1842-1855]. Eliza died 1847 in Kilbride, Nelson Tp halton Co. at the age of 23 and is buried Nelson United Church Cemetery.

Charles and Eliza had 2 children if you are interested in the step children of Charlotte.

Charles then married Charlotte as you noted - their marriage is found in Gore District Marriage Register 1842-1855

After Charles died 18 Dec. 1876, Charlotte md for the third time in 1877 in Carlisle, East Flamborough Tp. Ontario to George Hardbottle who was almost 20 years her senior. Ellen Priscilla Hardbottle, the future wife of John Peer s/o Charles and Charlotte, was the d/o George and his first wife Rhoda Croocker

Ellen Priscilla died in 1887. Her death registration is found in Halton Co. under Priscilla Peer.

Charles and Charlotte Peer also had a daughter Katura (Turie) A. Peer born circa 1864. She md M. Foster Their marriage took place in Dundas, Wentworth Co. in 1884

I have Charles Peer's will, death registration and obit, and other documents on the family. I have researched all PEERs in Ontario for many years, in my attempt to link the family with the two PIER brothers who arrived in New Netherland (now NY) in the 1660s from Holland. One of the brothers' descendants ended up in NJ which is where our PEER line is from.

Charles Peer is of the same lineage as my PEER line, his great-grandfather Jacob PEER came from NJ to Upper Canada (now Ontario) in June 1796 (I have land petitions confirming this date), and Jacob is my direct ancestor.

Have you been to my website and read my Pier info? http://olivetreegenealogy.com/nn/surnames/pier.shtml

Hi Leroy-

I just found in a history of Essex County written in 1884 a mention of David Pier as one of the original settlers of Fairfield in around 1744. He owned 200 acres on Pier Lane, and he had two sons, Isaac and David. I'm still trying to figure out if Isaac is my Pier as well. Let me know if this helps- ancestry.com has some census info on David Pier in 1830 on up.

Take care,

Matt Essex
