Howdy,

I had these dates

Jane/Jean Piercy (b 1788 Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, North Ireland). Her and her brothers (Thomas b. abt 1796; James b 1801; Francis 1804).

Since the date of my first post, Thomas's dates changed to this:

Thomas Piercy
Birth 18 Aug 1796 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, North Ireland
Death 08 Apr 1880 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

James Percy, married Margaret Smith. I guess on that record they didn't put her maiden name. ??

I think it better if you just email me, I work tomorrow, but I'll email you back a link to my ancestry tree.

If you have ancestry you can find me my member name is ripriprip there also.

Thanks for contacting us
(Hi Dick)
Tammy
ancestry at ripandrevmedia.ca

Erin, Tammy is a MUCH better researcher than I am but I do have a suggestion regarding James Piercy's birthdates between 1770 & 1801. Is it possible that these were 2 different individuals? James may have had a son named after him or a sibling could have had a son and named him James? God knows that generation mixing is not unheard of.....even in official government records. I've run down blind alleys for years because some census taker mispelled a name and/or had such sloppy penmanship that it was impossible to decipher. It sounds like you surely know what you're doing with the research. One other thing that popped into my mind is that I corresponded briefly with a descendant of Archibald's. He ended up in St. Louis and I believe that some of his descendants may still be there. It's also possible that my memory had failed me (again :) Best of luck and let us know if you make any new discoveries!
Regards,
Dick

Hi Dick and Tammy,

I have been researching my Piercy ancestors adding members and information as I confirm it through records.

I am related through the Thomas Piercy line. He is my 4th great grandfather.
Joseph Edward Piercy is my great grandfather.

Thomas married Diantha (Dianthy, Doratha) Blakley in 1835 Iberville, Canada
I find it strange that they had their first child 4 years before this in 1831, but that's what the records show. All names have been confirmed through church and census records.

I have their children listed as

Mary b. 16 Feb 1831 in Canada
Archibald b 14 Jan 1833 " "
Richard b 1836 " "
James b 4 Apr 1840 " "
Jane b 1840 " " married John Broughton 1876
Margaret b 1842 in Vermont
Elizabeth b Mar 1844 " " married John Bingham 1864
Thomas W b 1846 in New York
(Sarah) Permillia b 1850 " " married James Rothwell 1875
John b Mar 1852 " "

Permilla was listed as "Sarah" on the 1850 census, but from 1860 on as "Permillia". Her name is clearly recorded on the marriage certificate as "Permillia Percy". Harder to read on 1860 and 1880 census forms.

Thomas' parents names are listed on his death certificate as
James Piercy and Margaret Piercy.

Diantha was listed on the 1880 census as "Dorathea or Doratha" living with her daughter Elizabeth and her husband John Bingham.

Tammy - I have seen James Piercy's dates listed as "1770 - 1801" and wonder where these dates come from? If his death date is correct then Francis Percy birth date of 1804 would be inaccurate. Francis Percy is listed on both Mary Piercy and Archibald Piercy's christenings as a sponsor so I am pretty confident he is their uncle and Thomas's brother.

Thomas' siblings:
Jean/Jane 2 Nov 1788 Enniskillen, Ireland
James 1801-1884 -these dates are per cemetary records of grave stones
Francis 1804 - 1888 "
you also had Francis listed as born in "1793" I'm wondering where this date came from - it would match better as it comes before what you have for his father's death date.
Also all the other siblings birth dates are 13+ years after Jean's dob, which seems unlikely unless there were several other siblings in between or one of the parents remarried?

Any further information you have collected is appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Erin Havrilko

I have much information about him. I recently returned from a week in West Virginia researching the remainder of his life after the war. Would be glad to share any info. with others.

Hello Kyle,

It's been a few years since your last post, but am hoping you are still around. I have many of the same surnames as you do, within my REIDFORD tree. Majority originating from NE Scotland. As you no doubt know families moved about within the surrounding parishes, so have to give each person's BMD place when giving data. Our REIDFORDs have been traced back to Corski Farms, Marnoch pre-1700, eventually spreading out from there.

I do have JOSS within my tree; in fact I'm in contact with 4 of my Mum's 2C whose granny was a JOSS, wed to a REIDFORD. 3 of the 4 still live in the Cullen to Banff (town) area. Their sister who also has JOSS within her name (as did their Mum), now lives in England.

My great-gran was Annie RITCHIE b.1862; daughter of James RITCHIE & Jane DONALDSON. Also have DUNCAN & DINGWALL connections. None directly to surname NEISH, but do have a connection of sorts to NEISH House in St Fillans Perthshire. House still stands, now a B&B.

An aside: I was born in Halifax NS & my father's grandmother was a MATHESON born in PEI. Keen to know if your MATHESON may have been from there as well.

Warm regards,
Trena

PIERCY, Mary - Born abt 1810/1811

Top of the Day to You,
This is one of those on a wing and a prayer, almost last ditch attempts, on past when all hope has definately gone, sort of Posts. I'm running out of everthing, including possibles, time, money, and patience trying to get several Persons nailed down.

First was there ever back in about 1810 / 1811 or earlier in County Down, a Village or Place called >>>"Harley"<<< (or close Variant) ?

Personally I think "Harley" is a misspelling, unless it was in the Irish, and the English Tongue or Ear, couldn't get around it !

But I'm looking for a Mary Piercy (or close Variant) who was Born in abt 1810 / 1811 "possibly", but only possibly, in Harley, County Down, Northern Ireland or somewhere else in County Down with a similar Name in the same year range 1810 / 1811.

Her parents at this time are sadly both Unknowns.

We know that "if" she was Born Mary Piercy, in County Down, She did leave County Down, and Northern Ireland, and headed for England. Possibly with Her Parents or other Sibling Brothers and Sisters (if any), and ended up in, or about, the Area of Saint Mary's Newington London, England in the 1870's possibly earlier.

I have so little to offer with this Lady, and she may possibly still be a total nobody. I note that there were Piercys in Ireland though, almost at the 24th Hour when I was ready to chuck in the sponge, I tumbeled over these two :

SEAPATRICK in the diocese of Dromore, in the County of Down in the Year >>1766<<:

They were PROTESTANTS

William Piercy
Gilbert Piercy

I wonder if either of the above, were Mary's Male Parent, probably not !

I have to be absolutely Scriptual about this, I'm very negative, I have serious doubts she existed, well, in Ireland, North or South, but it's worth a try !

Any help, would be a Blessing.

kind regards
john.

Hello Louise
I may or may not be related. My grandfather is Homer Pierecy does he connect with any one. Seems to be possibly a miss spell as time went on. This is my first time making any contact regarding tracing my family members. Came from a long list of Bailey. Pierecy is my maiden name. Would love to hear from you.

Darlene Pierecy Porter

Re: James Nosler and Nancy Ann Bryant in George's will

George Piercy's will raises several areas of interest in my search for more information on his wife Sally, who has been recorded elsewhere by various names: Sally Moore, Sally Case Moore. In researching George's reference to his brother in law James Nosler I found a marriage record for James Nosler and Jemima Moore, and later a deed in which Thomas and Ann Moore deeded land "with love and affection" to James and Jemima Nosler. Sounds like Jemima and Sally could have been sisters. But then there's also the reference to his stepdaughter Nancy Ann Bryant, which makes it sound like Sally had been married before. But then the term stepdaughter wasn't always used to mean the same thing. The reference to the Bryant and Moore farms is intriguing. Would welcome any comments or insights people might have.
Re: Piercy, Richard died abt 23 Dec 1879, Chicago, IL

Hi, (Kansas mentioned at bottom)

I find this thread a little confusing, because there are not too many dates accompanying the names here. I will post what I think might be relevant. Please contact me if you want to share more info or have questions. (Hi Dick, we have connected !!)

Percy's in my tree who I have researched.

As far back as I have been able to go (so far), my Percy's were born in Ireland, mid 1780's, Jane/Jean Piercy (b 1788 Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, North Ireland). Her and her brothers (Thomas b. abt 1770; James b 1801; Francis 1804) all moved to Ary, Scotland between 1812-ish to 1823-ish. The lot of them moved to Quebec in 1823, Jane at that time was Jane Ewing, as she married James Ewing prior to moving to Canada. When the family was in Ireland and Scotland, the last name was spelled on documents Piercy. Once they came to Canada, the name was spelled Percy, and is spelled that way on Jane's Gravestone.

Where do I go with this, do I tell you who each brother married, or do I tell you where some of my various Percy's died?

Both I guess:
(brother 1)
Thomas married Diantha Blakely in Quebec 1835.
1850's find them in Essex, New York. 1860,70 & 80's finds them in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Thomas died in Milwaukee April 1880.
Their children:
-May Percy
1831 –
-Archiebald Percy
1835 –
-Richard Piercy
1836 – 1879-(the one who died in the elevator shaft, 23 Dec 1879, Chicago)
-Jane Percy
1838 –
-James Percy
1840 –
-Margaret Percy
1842 – 1930
-Elizabeth Percy
1844 –
-Thomas Percy
1846 –
-Pamela Sarah Percy
1850 –
-John Piercy
1852
--------------------
(next brother)
James Percy married Mary B Buck
They always lived in Quebec.
Their chidren:
-James Richard Percy
1829 –
-Sarah Percy
1832 – 1841
-William L Percy
1834 – 1841
-Henry Percy
1838 –
-Cyrus John Percy
1840 – 1841
-Thomas Percy
1842 –
-----------------
(next brother)
Francis Percy married Sophronia Boomhower. This family lived in Quebec all their lives.
Their children:
-Margaret Percy
1831 –
-Hannah Mary Percy
1833 –
-Francis Jr. Percy
1835 – 1893
-Sophronia Percy
1845 –
Francis died in Pike River, Missisiquoi County, Quebec in 1888.
------------------

Places of some of these Percy's, when not in places already mentioned.

- Elizabeth Percy b. 1844 Vermont.
(married John Bingham, their first child Thomas born in Wisconsin)
- Margaret Percy b. 1842 Vermont.
(Married Anthony Hammond, first child Ella born in Wisconsin 1865)
- Thomas Percy abt. 1868 Illinois
(married Mary ?, their first child Joseph born in 1896 Illinois.)
Lived in Chicago.

- Archibald Percy born 26 Dec 1835 Noyan Quebec.
1850 finds him in Willsboro, Essex, New York
1860 & 70 finds him in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
1910 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Lets chat!!
Tammy

Well known Piercys: Frederick Piercy, artist

Frederick Piercy was born 27 Jan 1830. He was the eighth of nine children of George and Deborah Adams Piercy of Portsea, Hampshire, England. By the time he was twenty-three, Piercy was already an accomplished artist, specializing in both portraits and landscapes. Piercy joined the Church of the Latter Day Saints in 1848, and in 1849 was married to Angelina Hawkins.

On February 5, 1853, Piercy, along with about 300 other immigrants, set sail from Liverpool on the Jersey, bound for the port of New Orleans, and eventually to Salt Lake City. This journey resulted in the publication of the illustrated travel book, "Route from Liverpool to Great Salt Lake Valley". It was first published in fifteen monthly parts from July 1854 to September 1855 to encourage British Mormons to emigrate to Utah. Piercy skillfully sketched immigration in the American West; his works and writings are most often used to represent the time period.

It is believed that Piercy returned to London after his journey and worked the rest of his life as an artist and teacher. He and Angelina had a total of eleven children, including a son, Frederick Hawkins Piercy, who was a sculptor and art master at Bedford College. Angelina died in 1881, and in 1884 Frederick married Catherine Agnes Wornum, a fellow artist. They had a son, Selden in 1886. Piercy reportedly suffered from paralysis the last ten years of his life, dying on 10 June 1891 in London.

I'm sending this thru the message board.

I have noticed that messages posted here to the board -DO go thru the mail list! That's GREAT!

However I have noticed that mail sent thru the mail list is not actually being mailed out, but it is getting posted to the mail list archives at
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/PIERCY/

I have sent in a ticket to support to have this addressed.

I have also changed the digest so that it will be mailed out after it collects about 6-9 messages instead of 3. It is my understanding that people who want the digest usually do that because they don't want so much mail.

Comments/Feedback always welcome.

Tammy

Hi, I just signed up as the new administrator for the Piercy Mailing list. I have come here to introduce myself, and to create a 'test' post here on the message board, to see if the two are connected.

My name is Tammy, I have Piercy's in my family tree, who I have traced back as far as about 1788 in Ireland. Jean Piercy married James Ewing. They went to Scotland around 1812-1823 then to Quebec Canada by 1823, where they settled in Henryville, and Pike River areas. Once in Quebec, her name was spelled Jane Percy. That is how it is written on her headstone.

I will come back and comment more about them.

I am testing the board/list connection, if there is any.

As a matter of fact, I admire people that help other people, and especially those who keep their promises made from past conversations. What we do for one another in this life is much more important than most peop[le think. I thought we had a family connection going there, but it don't matter if you're related or not. I'll do all I can to assist you in your Geneology search.
I spoke to my Newfound Sister about you this morning by phone and related the story about the Flea Market Piercy Family Bible. She's checking with our cousin that handles our Family background History to see if any of the names in the Bible makes a link with her existing information. Whatever I can learn, I will share with you and assist you with whatever Might help you keep your promise to that lady.
When I get something, I'll e-mail you and we'll see if it connects. Hope I answered your questions. Good Day, songwriter1.

Songwriter1,
Here goes my story about the Piercy relations. I am not personally related to the Piercy family. In 1982 I met one of the kindest most wonderful woman I have ever met. We became very dear friends. Her name was Ruth Ann Piercy Edler. They had a seasonal home in my area. I met them at a restuarant I worked at while getting ready to attend college.
They were retired and they would eat out quite regularly. Harold Edler became very sick and passed away in the fall of 1982. Ruth and I would discuss family and the big important picture that families play. I have always had a love for geneology. I have researched my own lines back about 7 generations. My 87 yr old grandpa is actually my husbands grandpa. (but he is like my own.) He loves geneology also. I have helped him do a lot of research. Anyway, back to Ruth. I made her a promise that I would help her link her family together. She passed away in 1995.
Even though she has been gone for 13 years I must keep my promise. I almost feel like she was a foster grandma or at least kin to me. Ruth is the youngest child of William B. and Josephine Piercy. Now you know the rest of the story.

If you don't mind sharing the extensive Piercy records with me I would appreciate it so much. You may feel differently now that you know I am not related. Hope not.
Have a wonderful day.
Leiann

Liann, I'm not absolutely sure yet about the connections with William B. and Josephine Piercy of Vigo, In.

As I related to you earlier, I just Located my Lost Relatives on July 5. Our First phone contacts took place only Yesterday, and today I spoke to my Youngest Sister from North Carolina.
We have not yet met in person, but I already know we have a cousin from Ga that has EXTENSIVE RECORDS on the Piercy Family of Flat Creek, Buncombe.
As soon as I get my hands on what she has,(haven't spoken to her yet, but I did speak to her mom), I will look into your connection. Meanwhile, go ahead and quizz your G.pappy and find all you can to swap out with me.
At this point, I don't believe there is a Piercy in North America that is not somehow connected to the originals that migrated from Europe. We just have to build a GIANT TREE and put them all on it to see where they all filtered down from and went to and are now. It'll take some work and some perserverances, but it CAN BE DONE. Like your Granddad said, "They all leave a trail"!! will let you know what I find out when I can get with that other cousin of mine. c-ya! songwriter1

You are certainly most welcome.
Would you mind telling me "just how" you are related to the Flat Creek Buncombe County Piercy FamilyYou have mu curiosity up and running here girl! I'm still digging Backgrounds up too. Is your 87 year old Grandfather Related to the Piercy's?
We may need to spend a Little time on the web and compare some more info when you have the Time and I do too. I don't know yet when I will have ample time to go thru ALL my records, but There MAY BE a connection here somewhere along the Flat Creek Piercy Lines, so both of us would be a little on the silly side if we ignored it. Think upon this. Talk with your Grandpappy, and find out ALL YOU CAN. He may have even known about my Grandpappy Herbert A. Piercy. He lost a leg somehow and was a one legged man. See what your G.pappy says then get back to me on web, n we'll go from there. Have a Good Evening. Sincerely, songwriter1

Sharron,
I was excited to see your posting on Ancestry.com. I am searching my Piercy line which I think links to yours. Did your Tennessee Piercy's originate in North Carolina and Indiana? Do your records show that William E. Piercy (who is the son of Ephriam) have a son named William B. Piercy of Vigo, Indiana. William B.Piercy was married to Josephine
Dunham of Vigo Indiana. I have tried so hard to locate Williams parents. There is a record showing that his father was William E.Piercy and Locky Horton but I am not sure that is correct. Can anyone help me? Josephine was buried in the Stephens Cemetery in Lewis Indiana. I thought I might be able to find William B. there also. The cemetery must have changed names. I can not find a trace of William B. or his parents. Thank you for your help.
Leiann
