I am also a descendant of George Edward Pilkington, and am researching my Pilkington line. George Edward Pilkington's daughter Maria Pilkington was my great great grandmother. She was born in Baston, Lincolnshire, England in 1863 and emigrated to the US in 1881 with her brother Walter.

(and step daughters/son of Letita)

Death 28 July 1851
Ruthin, North Wales[Aged 67] at the Manor House built 16th C.;2011 is a Luxury Hotel

At this stage he does not appear to be an ancestor to my family.

Looking for where Joseph Pilkington b. 1862 who married Ellen Lucas in Liverpool lived in 1901 and 1911.
I can find him on 1871 census but nowhere else. He died 1932 in Liverpool. Ellen is listed on 1901 census but not Joseph. His sons where William George b. 1885, Joseph & Hugh. He also had a daugher Ellen.

William Franklin was born in 1931 died in 1991.I believe he lived in Moscow TN at the time of his death, also lived in Loouisville Ky for a while.

John Sanford Pilkington was born 1904 died in Indiana (i think) in 1991. He lived in Lauerdale and Tipton TN.

Hattie Mae Brumley 1915-1992 she lived in Tipton TN most her life from what I can tell. John and Hattie had a total of 10 children together and there is a possibility that John may have been married prior to his marriage to Hattie.

I have also run into a lot of Williams there seems to be at least one each generation. John did have a brother named Willie or William H born abt 1890 in Madison TN. And their grandfather Was named William Joseph born in 1833 in Alabama.

Sure wished you had given some years and do you have any counties for either state mentioned? That would help, too. I have a ton of Pilkington's from both areas... good chance yours may tie into mine somewhere. And no surprise there are a bunch of William's... but that is such a common given name, even now.

I have a William S; William; William A.; William Benton; William G.; William G. H.; William R.; William R; William W.

Given some of the scribble called script, some of the middle initals may be incorrect. Hard to say unless it is typed.

William R. Pilkin(g)ton lived in Giles Co, TN where he was also born, but died in Cushman, Independence Co, AR...

The younger of the William R's was born in MO and a nephew of the older one.

Hi Chris,

I haven't worked out the exact relationship yet but it appears that we are some sort of distant cousins, over 9000miles at a guess-timate!!

My grandfather, Horace Burrow (born 1898), was one of your grandmother's older brothers.

I have only just started looking, this month, at our family's Pilkington connection but my siblings and cousins have also been intrigued by this over the years. Mainly driven, I fear, by the lost 'Pilkington Pension', which makes me fairly confident that we are related to the famous Pilkington family.

I do have a photo of Alexander Fraser, in about 1936, and one of Annie, when she was around 80 years old, if you would like to see them.

I've worked out that Alexander and Annie were only 16 and 15 years old when they married, although the wedding certificate does claim they were older. I hope this is the most scandalous event I unearth!

Hi Steve. Yes they were from Yorkshire. My great grandfather was Alexander F Burrow born July 1 1865. He married my great grandmother Annie Pilkington (DOB unknown). They married on Xmas Day 1881. I think they had 18 children but only 11 survived. My grandmother was Ivy born 1909. I was always told that Annie Pilkington was related to the famous Pilkington family (glass company) but I have tried to trace this aspect with no luck - even contacted the Pilkington Trust. If you are related and have any info I would greatly appreciate your help. I live in Australia but was born and raised in Scarborough Yorkshire. Thanks for any help you can give - regards Chris Wood

All census record her as unmarried

Thank you for responding to my message of 2005 regarding David Pilkington.
My apologies for the delay in replying but we were about to depart to Bath in Somerset for a few days when your response came through.
My information has been updated since my message was posted and already includes the information in your message......
The children born to David and Jane Pilkington seem to include Esther, born in the June Quarter of 1845 (beford the marriage at Witham Registry Office on 13 Nov 1846) and was baptised on 23 Feb 1847 at Great Coggeshall as Esther Pilkington of Coggeshall. Esther is My Great Grandmother.
My biggest problem is establishing where David Pilkington was born. Without this I have difficulty in going further back. There are a few Pilkingtons in East Anglia but I can’t seem to put a David intothem!
Although Familysearch describes his birth as about 1768 of Cornard Parva, Suffolk, the Parish Church record of the marriage to Sarah Baldwin on 26 Dec 1793 at St Mary, Brent Eleigh only states that he was from Cornard Parva. I have searched baptism records from Little Cornard and find no Pilkingtons so I cannot convince myself that he was born there.
I have asked for militia records at Bury St Edmunds record office but they said none were available. I don’t know where to look next.
Davids marriage to Jane Till records his father as James, a wheelwright.
I suspect that your interests cover the family that David married into and perhaps show no further light on David.... but I might be wrong??

David married into one of my ancestral families:-

Sarah Baldwin bap.as Balding, with her sister, Ann, 6th July 1766 at Brent Eleigh. She m. David Pilkington, 26th Dec 1793 at Brent Eleigh. He was from Lt.Cornard.Witnesses, James Baldwin and William Leeks. They had a daughter. David m.2ndly Jane Till, having further children born between 1843 and 1851 at Coggeshall, Essex.

Our mothers name was Margaret Ann Hamilton. Our grandparents names were Carrie O. and Walter Hamilton. I know they lived in Ohio around 1943. I just want to say Hi and compare health issues.

I am trying to find out more about Catherine, who married Joseph Brandreth, MD. They married 12 October 1780 ; she is give as 25 yo so born 1755 and he is given as 30 yo so born 1750.

She is described as the daughter of John Pilkington, Esq of Anderton, Lancashire, which may be a misreading of Aughton near ormskirk.

There are quite a few Pilkingtons at Ormskirk from 1600 onwards. The possible connected records I can find are:

Margaret Pilkington, bapt 9 Nov 1760 at St Peter and St Paul, Ormskirk, daughter of John Pilkington and Ann.... (their abode is given as Burscough)

John P, b1772, Ormskirk, son of John P and Mary....

Joseph Brandreth was a successful doctor and a man of standing so the Pilkington relatives should have left more trace! Their son was named Joseph Pilkington Brandreth - and he was also a doctor in Liverpool.

Can anyone help with this?

Hello Mary, it is good to hear from you. Sorry for my delayed reply, but I've been away on holiday. Thanks for correcting me on the dates - I was using the date at which births were registered from the indexes, so there's always the possibility of a 3 month slippage.

Would you like to contact me for more information? I have some old family photographs which I think may be of your great grandmother, and also her mother and the cottage in which they were all born (which still stands). It would be lovely if you could give me any more information.

I know very little about the Pilkingtons, and although my grandmother remained in contact with them in her early life, she lost touch and is now no longer with us (unfortunately the same for my mother). I'm a professional historian and would love to fill in some gaps in my family's history, and perhaps I can also give you some missing information. I've got quite a lot overall,

I have an incredible amount of pilkington family letters and correspondence from waynesboro, franklin county pa. most are civil war letters from his sons. thomas was severly wounded at the battle of fredricsburg and died later in washington. I have the original letter which notifies his wife Nancy. if this is your ancestor and you would like more info on the family, I would be happy to share this

Hi the Pilkingtons that look like my uncle and grandad in our family is Charles Henry Pilkington, Indiania, USA. We do not know if we are related to him, but as I said his picture is the image of my uncle leonard, even his wife, sister etc agree (it is uncanny). I would love to know if we are connected and how, as our family live in England and as far as we know never emigrated to America.

Hi I am related to Pilkingtons from Liverpool, England but unfortunately I am female so wouldn't be able to do DNA test. Don't know whether you are related to a Charles Henry Pilkington, but looking at photos of him on Ancestry, he lived in America, he is the image of my uncle who was born in Wirral, England. His father & fathers all came from England.
Which line are you related to. We are related to George Pilkington 1832 married to Elizabeth Williams b.1835 who then married James Pilkington b.1932.

Not sure if there is any connection here. My grandparents lived in Earlstown (Emmanuel and Annie Pilkington)Family also immigrated to Canada in early 1900's - one son also named emmanuel. My ggggrandfather was a Capt Abraham Pilkington - part of the Rivington Branch that relocated in the late 1600's to Westmeath, Ireland.

Check out the lirary in Richmond (county seat for Wayne co) at this url:
http://www.mrl.lib.in.us/
go to the far right and click on library catalog, then once there, use the drop down menu to go to newspapers. then plug in the family names. It will tell you if something was published and when and sometimes what it was about.
If you get that, then I can go look it up for you.
The Wayne co genweb site is awful. The current coordinator literally destroyed it then redid it with only her info and so much work was lost.

I have a R.R. Pilkinton who left IN to go to Kansas who married into my family line. I believe the first name is Richard but not positive.

Have you contacted a nearby Family History Center? They can order a copy of the film for you if they don't already have it on hand. It could be that the original at the county no longer exists so the microfilm might be your only chance. Good luck!

Here is the citation info from Ancestry.com. Hopefully this might help in tracking down the original record. It may only be available on microfilm. I also found 'Anna' or 'Lucie' in the 1900 US Federal Census in Fountain Co., IN at age 38, divorced with 3 children. Good luck!

Has anyone obtained the marriage record for them? They married 8 Sep 1883 in Fountain County, IN. I have looked on line to try to request the record from Indiana, but no luck.
I sent a request to the county clerk six months ago and have not heard anything. If you have this record, would appreciate you sharing it with me. If I hear, I will do the same.

I'm looking for information on Abraham Pilkington, birthdate unknown and daughter Mary Ann, born St. Helens Lancashire around 1858. I have photographs of Abraham and his wife (name unknown) at what appears to be 60-70 years of age, from a studio in St. Helens. Mary Ann married John Littler and lived in West Derby, Lancashire in 1881. They both emigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1904.
