Hi, reading your various threads I think we might be related? My 4 x Greatgrandad was Hugh Pill, coastguard from Sennen Cove. I also found out he was born Gorran, married Sarah St.Andrew in Lymington, his son Benjamin was born in Lowestoff and he was working as a coastguard in Sennen Cove during the census until he died in Wherrytown. How did you find out about working on IOW? I live in Hampshire. I was also trying to find out why he was in Lowestoff it seems a long way from Cornwall. I would be really interested to hear how you've got on. Thanks Jo

Hello Jean. All Gorran Pills are related to each other, some closer than others. My Hugh Pill was born there in 1789 and was a coastguard in lots of places after he left Gorran.
My e-mail is Binns@alan37.freeserve.co.uk It is probably easier to send me a direct message than going through the procedures here, which I always forget.
To Gray Parker. Thanks for your message about Pill family at Perranporth. I dont know of any from there but would like to know more about them. I believe all the Cornish Pills come from Gorran in the first place. I have learned to put them into two or three localities later. 1. Gorran. 2. Perranzabuloe and 3. Bideford and Barnstaple. Would love to hear your story. Alan.

John. Thanks for prompt reply. My Hugh Pill was born in Gorran in 1789 and became a coastguard. He was at lots of places from Lymington to Lowestoft and ended his time at Sennen Cove. I have had lots of information from a History of Gorran by a man called Whetter who you will know. I would very much like a copy of his books if you ever come across them. They are out of print and when I wrote to him he had none himself.
It is 10 years since I was in Cornwall. I once crawled round the graveyard on hands and knees. We must keep in touch Alan.

I have managed to trace my line of the Pill family back to William Pill who married Jane Chadman in Gloucestershire, England in 1721. I know that his parents were William Mary Pill who could have been born approx 1680. Does anyone know if any of the Cornish Pills moved to Gloucester at all? Any info would be appreciated. Cheers.
