Hi David

I have family connections with the Boldre, Pilley area.
I would like to converse with you over this area, however the major question I have is do you know of any major fires that may have taken place in the area around the turn of the century. I see there is a Burnt House Lane in Pilley, do you know why or when it was named?

Regards
Geoff
Australia

Hi Graham'
I'm convinced that your Charles and my William were cousins but have no proof. The coincidence of the surname and the occupation make it quite likely. There is always a chance they could be brothers (William was born in 1801). I'll check out my info on the Pilley family in the next few days and send you what I have. Is there any way of exchanging email addresses ?
Jenny

Hi Jenny
My direct ancestry goes back to Charles Miles Pilley born 1816 in Cheltenham but then cropping up as a tailor in Cheltenham in 1841. 1851 tailor 16 Union Street Cheltenham. 1861 3 Mount Pleasant Cheltenham. By 1871 he had moved to Birmingham remarried and died there aged 70 in 1886. Seems likely he was related to John Pilley and your line, but I have not explored that yet. I'd be interested to know what you have. Please keep in touch.
Graham Horn

My Pilley family are also from Cheltenham. Quite a rare name in the Gloucestershire area. Most seem to be descended from John Pilley a tailor and his wife Mary Poulson. They had two sons - John Pilley who married Harriet Hinton. He became a builder. His brother William Pilley (born 1801) was my direct ancestor. He married Elizabeth Harris. He worked as a tailor in Portland St, Chelteham and died at the grand old age of 95.

Hi Jenny
I see you have a lot of Pilley references recorded. None of them seem to match mine but here goes. I have a line back to Charles Miles Pilley (my GGG grandfather), born 1816 Tewkesbury. Married before 1841 to Mary? 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses Tailor in Cheltenham (variously Union Street and Mount Pleasant). At least 5 children, Henry, Mary Ann, Emily, Charles, Susan. As a tailor he ought to link back to your John Pilley 1760, but I don't know how. Any links that you know of. I have more info about this branch.
Graham Horn

Dear Gerry, you wrote this message a while ago, I hope you are still researching!
I have very similar information to yourself about the Pilley family. Do you have access to family tree's at genes reunited? You could see my history so far. I am actually researching the Woollett family generally and Martha Pilley born c. 1839 Cheltenham married Henry Woollett born c. 1826 in Brighton.(sometimes misspelled as Wollett) in 1866. I'm interested in Henry because he was an artist and I can't find much information about him. All I know is the Woolletts married in Chelenham then moved to Everton. His son Francis Henry Woollett lived in Leyton east London, where he was married to Hettie Brain(or Brame) and had at least 5 children.
Please let me know if I can help you on specifics,
Zoe
