kinikiaW
Again thank you so much. I really do appreciate your help. I started my Ancestry research a year ago and worked on it everyday from early morning until late nights. I have gotten all the way to my Gr-Gr-Grandparents and slavery four years before the civil war ended. My Gr-Gr-Grandmother JAne and her three daughters were taken away from my Gr-gr-Grandfather and sold in the slave trading center from Virginia to South Carolina, the last place in SC was Blackville SC at a slave trading center then sold to Aiken,
South Carolina. That is how my Ancestors all got to Aiken SC. We have the entire story it was passed down through the generations and kept alive. We are blessed to have that information. Our Gr-Gr-Grandfather walked on foot following the paper trail after the civil war supposedly had ended for months on foot and finally he got to Aiken, SC from Virginia and found his wife and three daughters. The wife had remarried thinking she would never see her husband again and the three daughters grown up. I cried when I read that story at one of our family reunions. But thank you for that information re: the forums. I will start with Afrigeneas.com. Will let you know what happens.
savonweloveyou

Hello!
KinikiaW Thank you so much for your help. I am just so excited right now about finding our ancestors until sometimes I just don't sit down and think things through before I get involved such as spending money on something that maybe would not be useful. As you stated sometimes we have to take a chance. Are there some books that I can purchase that would tell me the names of the mortuaries that were in and around Aiken, SC during the 1900's. As I stated my Gr-Grandmother Emma Longstreet died in 1914 just before they started keeping death records or making death certificates. So far I feel that I have gotten a run around, Archives telling me to contact "Vital Statistics" , Vital Statistics telling me to find the funeral home where I think would have had her body, and the only one that I would know of was The Jackson Funeral Home which has been in existence for 93 years. I called them and they only have records back as far as 1948 and the other records they stated were at Vital Statistics. It feels as if my head is swimming. I will not give up , I will luck up on something if I keep trying. Please give me some of the names of the "Free Websites" you have joined that have helped you in the past. I would really appreciate that. I know everything does not comes free of charge and for that reason I am willing to pay for help if I have to if the cost isn't too much. Again thank you!
savonweloveyou!

You must be a advanced researcher to use this book. By this I mean, know names of enslaved ancestors, dates and have done a lot of research to connect the dots. All ancestors did not carry their x-slaveholders surnames. The book will not tell a story such as you are suggesting. Irregardless of what age you are, you are researching. I can not and would not tell you a book would be useful. I have purchased many books on my road to finding family connections. Some had a lot of information. Always remember SLAVES were not permitted to read or write, punishable by death. I have joined many 'pay for membership' websites to find information. Some have been worth every penny. I am also a member of free websites, where people have freely helped me connect the dots. And last but not least I am a member of every Genealogy Society I could find in the states my ancestors lived and have found family by writing about and having the story put in the Newsletter Magazine for that Society. There are no books about my ancestors because no one wrote anything. So to answer your questions--I don't know what would help you. That's something you and only you can decide. We take a chance whenever we purchase something. It's not all going to come free of charge.

Hello!
Would it be worth my while purchasing this book. I am a senior on a fixed income which is very limited. My ancestors came from Aiken, South Carolina, all of them on both sides, my mom's side and my dad's side, "The Harrisons" I am doing our ancestry. I am 67 years old and trying to get all the information I can get to write a book of our ancestors to leave my grandchildren. Please would this book be helpful giving me the names of my Ancestors who were sold on the "Slave Market," "Slave trading center in "Blacksville, SC to Aiken, South Carolina. My Gr-Gr-Grandfather's name was "Major Harrison and his wife Jane. JAne was taken from him and his three daughters and sold in the slave trading center and left him alone in Virginia. He followed a papertrail months later on foot and found them in Aiken, SC. I just want to find that paperwork that got them sold into slavery with their names on it. Is that possible in this book
God bless you
Thank you!

betlovejesus@gmail.com

Go to the Charleston Historical Society or contact them about Pinckney. Robert Quick came to the Charelston area in the late 1600s and lived only about 9 yrs after he arrived (with wife and 1 maid). He sold his 25 acres. Pinckney is named in asociation with this acreage and more. If they look up the Quick family name you'll get to the Pinckney info. Plus, a Pinckney, don't know if the same, but suspect or family ,was a Rev. hero.

South Carolina Afro American Ancestors

There is a book -Slave Research Of Edgefield SC- for those of you doing research on x-slaves, in and around this city. It includes names of slaveholders from 1850-1865. Gloria Lucas took 6 years of her time to go through all of 22,200 records, that was in boxes in The Edgefield SC Archives holdings. You must have done enough research to be able to recognize your ancestor's names from past census, because this 400 hundred page book IS NOT INDEXED, by slave names. And believe me there many, many slaves that have the same names. X-Slaveholders names are listed alphabetically A-Z and the slaves names, either in family group as is listed on documents or by themselves, in spelling written, is next to the owners name. The price they were sold for is also listed, but all of them may not have a cost. Be also aware from 1861-1865, SC. used 'confederate notes'. They did not have the value that is actually listed. Mz Lucas pulled slave names from the inventory, sales, gifting, that concerned slaves, names are given just as it was seen on these documents. Be aware, your ancestor's surname, may not be the last slaveholders surname. In my case, I thought it was VANCE. It turned out PL Calhoun's administrater, sold Adelade and 4 of her children to a Abr. Jones in 1863. That is not our surname. So I had to go page by page looking for grgrgrandma. Luckily they were listed just as I knew it on the SC 1870 census. Also all of the slaves in SC were not born in SC, but many were brought into the area. This book list information from 1830-1865. This book was just published in 2010, so nothing will be on the internet. You can only purchase it through the SC Genealogy Society. Join the SC Genealogy Society for 1 year and become informed about happenings and books available through the society only. I am not soliciting here, just giving anyone a heads up and letting you know that's how I found my ancestors from South Carolina.

My name is Franscina Faines, but i was born Francine Pinckney. My mother was born in the South in 1939, but I don't know exactly where. I was adopted when i was 18 months old & i am trying so hard to find my biological family. I know that my mother had 3 daughters including myself & 1 son. I was the youngest. I know that my mothers father left her & her mother when she was a baby & then her mother left her with an aunt when she was 8 yrs old. My mother left the South when she was 16 yrs old and came to Brooklyn NY in NYC, which is where she had her first daughter that she sent back to the aunt and the rest of us were adopted. All 4 of us were by the same man. My original last name is Pinckney as is my mothers.

Hello and thank you for responding.
I am engaging in basic research using the internet and subscriber genealogy services, so the data I have could be wrong if the sources are incorrect. This info comes from the Northrup genealogy by Ansel Judd.

I have in my line a "Mary Foster" b.1765 who is said to be the child of Thomas Foster. In the book is written: " THomas Foster m. Lady Jane Pinckney or her dau. Lady Jane came to America with her brother, Sir John Pinckney, Gov of the Carolinas. Mary lived in New Orleans. She married Joseph Northrup ( a Loyalist) in 1781 She died in 1834.

Does any of this intersect with your data or is it incorrect?

Thanks.

Hello:

I am becoming familiar with the SC Pinckneys. My cousin and I are searching for heirs of Susan Sarah Pinckney Magwood and Simon John Magwood (married in Walterboro in Nov. 1839). Susan was the daughter of the late Hon. (Col) William Cotesworth Pinckney(d.12/30/1830) and Rebecca D'Oyket Godfrey Pinckney (d. 12/25/1865). We have found in my uncles old papaers an original Will of Susan, which has a good deal of information in it about lands and burials, etc. I have come across a number of sites and heirs of Pinckneys in my searches. If you tell me what you are looking for exactly, maybe I can try to help in my search for this.

My ancestor was Pinckney Brewster who married Mecka/Mecha/Micha, the widow of a Mr. Hix of Cherokee Co., GA. in 1835.....Later they lived at Hiwassee, Towns County, GA and then after the War Between the States, Mecka/Mecha/Micha went to Wellsville, Blount Co., TN with her son, Josiah Brewster, a veteran of the 65th Ga. Infantry, Confederate Army and her grandchildren, but Josiah's wife Elizabeth Arrowood Brewster stayed in Towns Co., Ga. She later married a Mr. Hall. Whatever happen to Elizabeth Arrowood Brewster Hall?

I have been told that Mecka/Mecha/Micha was Native American. I have a Brewster reunion phote and here grandchildren looks like they just came off of a reservation.

Would be grateful for any infomation.
Hi Lynette, this is a great surprise. I would love to share information with you. Augustus Pinckney was my ggg-grandfather. Don't know if you are aware of this, but he married a second time to Catherine Harris and moved to Cuba where they had more children. I also am in contact with one of the descendants of Melissa Phoebe Pinckney (a sister of Oscar). Melissa moved to California. I have the entire family tree in ancestry. Do you use ancestry.com? If not, I will send it to you. I pretty much had all the marriages, but the only one I was never able to find was Nellie's. Contact me directly at my email: lereyes@bellsouth.net

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

I am looking for descendants of this family. I have posted information everywhere. I have sent messages to possible descendants with different surnames at this date. To the ones who respond, thank you. Other's just don't respond so it leaves me in limbo. This is a little information about this couple.
In 1880 the census taker wrote PINCKSTON as the surname. That was totally incorrect. The Pinckney name is spelled a different way in each census, so I will use the spelling I found and confirmed for the cildren in later years PINKNEY.
son Bud bn 1876 SC
dau Eva bn 1878 "
dau Mary L bn 1878.SC
son Elbert bn 1880 d. 1932 Ga.
dau Sallie bn 1890
dau Julia (Wilson married name) bn 1894 d. 1965 Asheville NC
dau Ella(Jones marrie name) bn 1897 d.1912
Descendants of these people probably do not know that a sister of Harriet's, LUCY VANCE bn 1852, relocated to MS. about 1880 and had 4 other children. I know there are family members that lived in Fulton Ga, Johnston SC, Buncombe NC, Wash. DC and New Jersey. Hopefully this info will spark someone's interest and they will decide to check it out.
Know this--I had a DNA done on myself and it came out 99.7% Temne/Mende of Sierre Leone, West. Africa. I am a direct line descendant of Adalade Teague Vance. Anyone related to me by BLOOD shared these results. Cousin's where are you.
