That's great Tracy! I have heard a lot of stories about great grandpa but never seen even a single photo of him. It will be great to put a face to the name. Hopefully we can help each other quite a bit in our research. It's always great to meet new members of the family too :D

Hello, Charles Harvey Pine is also my great grandfather. Gladys Pine Griffin was my grandmother. There are many differences on the records. I think you are probably right, that may be because of thier Indian heritage. I have a picture I will scan and try to get on here. It may take me a few days to find it. I beleive my mother has a picture of Grandpa Charley and his brother Lloyd Dorsey Pine working in a coal mine. I will try to get that on also.

Yes, this is the problem I am finding. Several different documents list his birth date as several different years as well as his place of birth in many different states.I was told by a relative that he had legally changed his name to help with employment. I understood that he was a Cherokee indian and this is why he did it. Back in the time he was alive people of Native American heritage were not looked upon kindly by the government or by white people. This may be why I am having so much trouble finding any information for him if he did indeed change his name.

You say he was born in 1886.

His WWI draft registration card, which he filled out, lists his date of birth as May 27, 1884.

His Find a Grave memorial page lists his date of birth as May 27, 1883; date of death as January 20, 1931.

His death certificate, completed by his daughter, lists his date of birth as May 27, 1885. She listed him as being born in Montgomery Co., MO.

I am searching for documentation on my great grandfather Charles Harvey Pine. He was born in 1886 and died in 1931. He married Sarah Ellen Garret and had several children, including my grandfather Zearl Erman Pine. I have uncovered a few census forms for the family and they have his birthplace in a few states namely Kansas, Missouri, and Illinois. I also have a draft card for him in which he was a miner for Admiralty Zinc Co. in Oklahoma. I would like to be able to find even 1 photo of him to add to my tree as well as my personal items.I am also trying to find any concrete evidence of his birth so I can further research my family.

Charles Harvey Pine Missouri born 1885

I am looking for information on my great grandfather's family. He was Charles Harvey Pine. Born in 1884 or 1885, probably in Missouri. His death certificate says his parents were Elmer and Molly Murphy Pine. Charles had a brother Lloyd Dorsey Pine. Lloyds death certificate says Elmore Pine instead of Elmer as their father. Charles wife was Ella Garrett, Lloyd's was Pearl Southard. They both had children. Charles supposedly has a daughter from a first marriage named Viola. I am also interested in her as the family lost contact with her after Charles died in the 1930's. They lived mostly in the southern Missouri area. Any info would be greatly appreciated. email-jeff.tracy@gotsky.com Thanks!

My dad's cousin, Ralph Peterson, is looking for his maternal grandfather, ISAAC S. PINE. It was reported to Ralph by his mother Margaret, that her father was Isaac S. Pine. He married my gr. grandmother, Laura Conyers, in Chicago Illinois, in the late 1800's. The family members reported that Mr. Pine was 'jolly', and 'really good with numbers'. Also said that he knew alot about 'jewelry'. Isaac and Laura had a baby....Margaret, around the turn of the century. He supposedly went 'out west' on business, and never returned.
Ralph's mother Margaret was just 1 year old when he vanished. After that, Laura (my gr grandmother) remarried a minister, Mr. George Brown.
Ralph has wonders what happened to ISAAC S. PINE when he went out West, never to be heard from again. Could this be the same Isaac S. Pine that is listed in the 'Pine Family Bible'? If so, then he was quite a bit older than my gr. grandmother, Laura Conyers. Debby

Thanks for the info--it looks like our common ancestor is William Pine, Sr born in 1808, unofficially!! In the book, "History of Little Cove" it mentions the Pines, of English descent, came to Little Cove 1826, from the Shenandoah Valley, and William Pine was an ironworker, That all fits!! It says he may have been killed from a fall from a horse on the way to Cleveland. In the tax record from Warren Twp. I saw from 1843 listed two William Pines, one was a blacksmith. The sons would have only been 12 and 13, so not sure who the two are, or if they are the same, just with different property/ I don't think that Asbury ever joined the war effort, so maybe that is why he moved to Virginia. I can't find him in 1860 census. He had a number of children by then. He is my great grandfather, and he is in 1870, 1880, and 1900 census in Indian Head, Myd, where he died in 1903, after being struck by a train.
I will keep searching for William Pine, Sr and his wife, I live in Ohio, but get to Franklin CO, PA once in a while.
THis is a lot of fun, especially when the weather is too nasty to be outside.
I am sharing what information I have gathered concerning this part of the Pine family. My mother is the daughter of Elmer Lee Pine(he preferred to be called Lee)1891-1972.His father, Jacob Mcclellan Pine, was born 1863. His father, William Pine Jr. 1831-1918, was a Civil War veteran. His father, William Pine born about 1808, moved to Little Cove around 1830 and was a blacksmith. I have copies of the Pine section of "History of Little Cove" stating William and Asbury were both sons of William Sr. William Jr. is listed in The Civil War roster for the 182nd Volunteers Company L
21rst Regiment Calvary. He served for 14 mths and was captured and released towards the end of the war. This info can easily be reseached on the internet. I am still trying to find more information on William Pine Sr. 1808. I would appreciate anything anyone has.

Many thanks for your reply and explanation of the photo, someone sent it to me. Is Hazel Pine's father John, the son of William Asbury Pine, 1830-1903? If he is, then my grandfather, George is a brother to John. He is listed as George E, but was actually George W. Born 1865 died 1939. I am having no luck finding official records of William Asbury's parents, although many people say his father is William. The other question is "who is William Pine" born 1831-d. 1913? Was Wm Asbury known as Asbury in his younger years? I saw a note in Civil War newspaper there were a long list of men who had not reported for duty-it listed William Pine and Asbury Pine from Warren Twp, Franklin Co as two of them. Later I saw a notice that William Pine-1831-1913 was buried as a veteran, so he must have joined!! I have seen both of these persons tomb stones, so I know they are not the same person.
Any ideas you have are appreciated!! Linda Pine Miller

Hi Linda,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I haven't worked on this family branch in some time now. I wasn't sure if you had seen the photo or not but I am sending it as an attachment for your review. My husband's paternal grandmother, Hazel Pine, is the baby in the lap of her mom, Susan Seville, and her dad, John Pine, is standing just above her mom. The photo was passed down from her, but she passed away in 2007 and we just lost her son, Charles Mathews, in November. I have had a number of distant cousins state that they also have this same or a very similar photograph. In addition to the Pine siblings, also included in this photo are the Strait brothers, Charles Edward and James Thurman, who married Pine sisters Ola Blanche and Annie M.(on the far right). Enjoy...
Nancy

Looking also for info that verify if Asbury Pine, later known as William Asbury Pine is a brother to WIlliam. Wm Asbury born 1830 and married to Margaret Harr, are my ancestors.
Have you found any more information about this family? I have a Serilda Pine born in Missouri who may have been the daughter of Charles Pine. Serilda, sometimes spelled Surilda, was born about 1859. She married Daniel Shipman and they lived in Osawatomie, Kansas. Daniel and Serilda had a daughter, Mary, born 17 Aug 1871.

mary Lou my sister insists that the Pines of Gloucester City are Indian. None of us look like Indians, lol. My mom used to say she had heard as a little girl that there might be some indian and that the Pines took the name form the Pine tree and they wer indian. But all my searched say Pine is english and this is what I think. All my aunts looked english and Irish. My sis is driving me crazy with this. But most are buried in that little Union cemetary on Powell Street in Gloucester. I would love for you to share any info you have on the Lonabughs , Pines and Hoovers. The Henry Pine I'm looking for was born abt 1822 and he also shows up on the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census in Manlius, Onondaga, NY. His wife's name was Martha J. Tuttle.

Thanks for replying to my query. All I know is that there was a Samuel C. Pine who was the City Marshal of Springville Utah from 1859 to 1860. If he was in Utah at that time, it seems likely that maybe he was your Samuel Pine Senior, as your Junior was born in 1856 in SLC. Maybe Springville was a stop on the way to California for the family.

What specifically I'm hoping to find is a picture of the Marshal. We have a picture in our Department of all the City Marshals and Police Officers up until about 1975 hanging on our wall. It was made in the mid-1970's by the then Chief of Police's wife. Marshal Pine is the only one missing from the collection. He was the 2nd Marshal, there was one before him and we have a picture of him. I'm sorry I can't give you any more information than that.
My name is William PINE. I live in Australia but I was born outside London 1938, lived in Devon, emigrated to Queensland 1968, am a member of a very long and distinguished line of Pines going back into the dim mists of history in Baga in the Pyrenees between France and Spain at the time of the Moorish invasion (circa 750 AD). If you want to know more of what we have unearthed, contact me on bardolf7@gmail.com . You might find it fascinating. I changed my name on gaining Australian citizenship to the form that my branch adopted, that of YOUATT-PINE, but not all members of my PINE family used the YOUATT. I didn't want to see it die out.
I would love to have any information about Edwin and Emma Marshall Pine that you can share. I am their great grand daughter - Lucius Pine was my grandfather - and I know very little about them.

HI JANET, I DON'T SHOW AND CRANER IN MY DATABASE BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY ARE NOT RELATED. THE PINE FAMILY LIVED ALL AROUND THE BLACKWOOD/CHEWS LANDING AREA SINCE ABOUT 1750. ITS POSSIBLE THAT MILES WAS WORKING ON THEIR FARM AS A LABORER BECAUSE HE HAD 4 OLDER BROTHERS WHO WERE EITHER WORKING ON MILES'S FATHER'S FARM OR THEY LIVED NEARBY. I DO KNOW THAT MILES'S BROTHER JONATHAN DID BUY THEIR PARENTS FARM AND JONATHAN HAD A SON NAMED MILES THAT ABBY1620 MENTIONED TO YOU IN THE OTHER EMAIL. ABBY WAS A PINE ALSO...HORACE

HI JANET, MILES AND MERCY WERE MARRIED ON 30 MAR 1850 IN GLOUCESTER COUNTY. SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF WILLIAM NICHOLSON AND MERCY STILES. SHE DIED 14 SEP 1881 IN THE BLACKWOOD AREA AND WAS INTERRED IN THE METHODIST CEMETERY IN BLACKWOOD. AFTER HER DEATH HER HUSBAND MOVED TO MISSOURI AND DIED IN KNOB NOSTON, JOHNSON CO., MISSOURI. BOTH OF THE TWO MILES ARE RELATED AND IF YOU LIVE IN THE NEW JERSEY AREA I HAVE JUST DONATED THE PINE FAMILY HISTORY TO THE GLOUCESTER COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY IN WOODBURY, NEW JERSEY. ITS OVER 300 PAGES LONG AND I ALSO DONATED OVER 600 BIRTH, MARRIAGE AND DEATH CERTIFICATES TO THEM. THEY DO HAVE MERCY'S DEATH CERTIFICATE IN THAT BATCH. I ALSO UPLOADED MY VERSION OF THE PINE FAMILY ON TO MYFAMILY.COM SO IT SHOULD SHOW UP ON ROOTSWEB AND ANCESTRY ANY TIME SOON. YOU CAN CONTACT ME AT HREVEN1101@COMCAST.NET IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS....HORACE
