Re: Pioli family from Casteleone, Garfagnana

Hi to any Pioli's out there:

Since my posting, I have found out many things. My grandfather was Ippolito Angelo Pioli and he had brothers and sisters: Alessio, Massima, Zelinda, Antonio, Eletta, Riccardo, Enrico and Maria. They came from Mozzanella..near Castiglione di Garfagnana. He did not have a brother Angelo who went to NY but I am sure that there are many Pioli's from the Castiglione di Garfagnana area that are related to my family.
All of my grandfather's brothers and sisters remained in either Italy or France except for Alessio who went to Brazil. Antonio died at the age of 9 when he fell from a tree.
Their parents names were Filippo Pioli and Palma Zanoni. Filippo's parents were Alessandro Pioli and Cecilia Bertelli . Alessandro's parents were Bernardo Pioli and Mattea Rossi.
I am looking for the brothers and sisters of Allesandro so if any of you descend from Bernardo, I would love to hear from you.
Brenda

I just found this thread, and it has been pretty inactive for a long time, but here goes: First of all, Jean Baptiste Pailloz was married to Marie Josephine Roussey. His mom was Claude Francois Vernier. They had 4 sons: Justin, Frank Xavier (aka Xavier), Willim J. (aka Joseph?), and Frank Alexander (aka Alex).

One of the families moved to Milwaukee, and the Notbusch's are part of that branch. Robert in California is part of Alex's branch. I will have to check on the Peoria branch, but I know I have them too. (not at my home right now)

surname, Pio

I have extensive information on the surname, Pio, but with these specifications: all are descendants of Portuguese-speaking sailor, John Pio, born in Funchal, Madeira, in 1808, and died in Boston, MA, in 1869. His Pio descendants live, for the most part, in Maine, Oregon, California, and Washington.

The closest David in CA listed in the book is married to Lois , any relation? The original french spelling was Pailloz, lots of silent letters, and I don't think it was traced any farther back from the imigrants from France. If any are in your English territory they may have the old spelling yet.

I was interested in finding more Pio/Pailloz ancestors and in verifying information that I already have. Thanks, I would very much appreciate the address from the book. I live in California, though I'm originally from Indiana, so I wouldn't have access to those libraries. What is the name of the book and I'll see if I can get any information on it in librairies close to me in southern California. Thanks again.

Hi. There is a book that was put together by Terry Gorney, CGRS, Pailloz-Pio Family, From Bournois, France to Besancon, Indiana
She donated copies to the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne (IN), the State Library of Ohio, the Ohio Geneological Library in Mansfield (OH), the Paulding County Carnegie Library in Paulding (OH), The DAR Library in Washington D.C., and the Besancon Historical Society in rural New Haven (IN)
I don't know if any copies are available from the author any longer, but I will privately email the address from the book if you can't get ahold of a copy at any of these libraries.
Is there any specific questions you have?

Hi. I'm related to Blanche Pio, also recorded as Mary Blanche or Blanche Mary, whose siblings were Leo Dominic, Edward, Leon, Lonnie, Justin Eugene, and Francis Arbel "Arby". Her parents were Frank Dominic Pio and Adelia "Ida" Sordelet. Frank Dominic Pio's siblings were Charles, Mary Louise, Jeannine, Marie, William, Joseph, Marie Rosalie Henrietta "Hattie" and Julin. Frank Dominic's parents were Justin or possible Joseph Justin Pil and Pierrette Melitene or Militine Isabey. Justin's parents were Jean Baptiste Pio and Claude Francoise Vernier.

Do you have information on any of these Pios? The original spelling was Pailloz.

Thank you.

Claudia Vidano

Pios in Ohio

my greatgrandfather was William Pio, he married Alice Hamden in Paulding County, Ohio on August 17, 1892. im not sure about the number of children. my grandather Marion Pio was born of that union. his son Sam Pio, also deceased was my father. the Pios state their ancestry as 'French Canadian'. It is a rare name and Henry Pio and William Pio are almost certainly related.

I would gladly share info but unfortunately I don't have much to share. Henry Pio was French. I don't know anything about his family. My grandmother, his daughter, was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 25, 1905. Either he died after that or they were divorced. By 1922 my grandmother was using the name of her stepfather "Zeh". My great grandmother (Pio's wife) was born in 1888 in Port CLinton Ohio. I don't know anything more. Was your William in that part of Ohio? Was he of French descent? It certainly is not a common name, but its hard to find any trace of it.
