My mother was born in Tulsa Oklahoma, I know that she attended Borger high school 1966 ( according to online research) that I believe to be true because my grandfather (her daddy) owned a house in Borger Texas, his name is Howard Thomas pitchford. I do not know much about my mothers family name and from what I have gathered over the yrs is that the "Pitchford" name is a unique name.

The twelve of Judge Nero C. and Elizabeth Pitchford

A biographer or editor made a serious mistake in the publication of the book, Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Allen County.
JUDGE NERO C. PITCHFORD biography:

"Judge Pitchford remained with his mother till her death, after which he married Elizabeth M. Gatewood, of Allen County, a daughter of Fletcher and Mary (Calvert) Gatewood. Twelve children were born to this union, eleven named:
Mary E. (Thomas), Emma A. (deceased), William G., Laura D., Catharine W. (deceased), Bettie Clay, James E., John J., Lula, Bruce and Finis."

Bettie Clay???????????? Who's Bettie Clay????????????

There is and never was a Bettie Clay! All twelve children were named in the biography.

1)Mary E. (Thomas)
2)Emma A. (Richards)
3)William G.
4)Laura D.
5)Catharine W.
6)Elizabeth "Bettie"
7)Clay
8)James E.
9)John J.
10)Lula
11)Bruce
12)Finis

Poor Clay, that name "Bettie Clay" has never appeared on any census, birth record, marriage record, death record, burial record for him.

The dicovery that "Bettie" was actually the nickname for their daughter, Elizabeth, was quite a happy surprise. Hopefully this information will help others researching the Nero C and Elizabeth Pitchford line.
This is a link to a text file of the 1850 Allen Co Kentucky Census. There is a Richard S Ford and family. One of the children is a daughter with the initial S. Ford. Birth year would be 1840. Census are not always correct for birth years. This Richard S Ford is a lawyer and had a seat in the legislature in the state of Kentucky. He is in several books written about the history of Kentucky. Most Pitchford men marry well and if this is Sara's dad, then they had means. I can't find out if these Fords went to Illinois.

http://www.usgwcensus.org/cenfiles/ky/allen/1850/pg0101a.txt

No, I don't know what county. All I have ever found was she was born in KY. It is so frustrating to not be able to find anything on her. It is as if she didn't exist before her marriage and then dropped off the face of the earth in 1876 when she supposedly died (which there is no record of either)

I don't have any idea who her parent's names were or anything about her family for that matter. Ky records are not the best, I have found. Again, thank you.

Here is a link to a pedigree found on Sarah Ann Ford and John Michael Pitchford. This record on her pedigree shows she was born in Illinois in 1838.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/9W8C-78Q

But, I also found an 1870 Census for Jefferson County, Illinois where she is the spouse of John Pitchford. The census states John Michael was born in Illinois and Sarah A was born in Kentucky in 1838.

I only know that they were married in Illinois Oct 1856. She was born in KY 1838.
All that I can find is a Sarah (Sallie) Ann Ford who married a Richard Crump in 1856 in KY. This is not the same one. Do you have any suggestions where I can look for my Sarah?

Trying to locate this Pitchford that married Henry WILSON(Willson) in Bute/Warren Co., NC in 1809. She shows on the 1810 census as having been born 1766-1784 based on her age category. Would like to match her up with her family and hopefully that will provide some answers to the Wilson family connection. Not sure if PITCHFORD is her maiden name or a previous marriage surname. Even speculation would be greatly appreciated. Henry's first wife was a PASCHALL.

Fred Lee Pitchford, AR descendants / Galloway ties

I am looking for any and all descendants of Fred Lee Pitchford (1890 MO-1957 Baxter Co, AR) who married Sarah or Tera Mayer Wilson.

Sarah / Terah was daughter of Isaac Newton Wilson (& I think Celia Harris). Isaac Newton was son of William Harm ("Billy") Wilson & Sinia Galloway. Not sure who Sinia Galloway's parents were but they were probably Levi Galloway & Scinia Scoggins. Levi b/ 1784 NC and d/1851 Itawamba Co, MS. Sinia Scoggins Galloway b/ ca 1822 GA, d/1845 Itawamba Co, MS.

Levi Galloway was son of Matthew Galloway (ca 1759 Ireland, Scotland, or NC) d/ 1824 Oglethorpe Co, GA). Matthew m/ Elizabeth Beavers (Levi's mom) & 2) Mary Ragan.

I would like to get in contact with the Pitchford descendant who may have or have had the Matthew Galloway, 1781, SC Bible which contains (contained) a bond he made to buy his way out of a British prison during the Rev. War.

I am direct descendant of Matthew & would love to own the Bible (naturally), but I'd settle for a copy of the contents. Willing to pay any and all costs for obtaining such. If the Bible is not now owned by a Pitchford descendant, if there is any information on it's known or possible whereabouts, please contact me.
Until today we did not even know of a possible existence of said Bible (even at one time) nor the bond. I am a descendant of Levi Galloway's brother Matthew.
Matthew is my 5G Grandfather.

Thank you!

Briana Felch
Alabama

I am looking for information concerning Edwin and Harriet Pitchford of Dawley Magna, Shropshire, England. They came to Tioga county, Pa around 1871 with their children. I believe Edwin was the son of Timothy and Hannah Pitchford. Edwin worked as a coal miner. I have made several attempts to contact Pitchfords from this line in England and have gotten no response. Many of you are showing that Edwin died in England but if you check the U.S. census in 1871 Edwin and Harriet are living in Pennsylvania. Please contact me.

Daniel Marion Pitchford (1831 KY - 1906 IL)

Hello, all.
I'm researching the descendants of Daniel "Marion" Pitchford and have a couple of questions...
1) I have located Marion in the 1860 IL, 1870 IL, 1880 KS, and 1900 IL Census's. I've also located his marriage to Mary Jane Turner in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index (16 Oct 1851 Washington Co). However, the 1880 Census shows Marion married to Ann. I haven't heard of Ann as a nickname for Mary. Can someone shed some light on her name or could this be a second marriage for Marion?
2) Does someone have a death date/place for Mary Jane Turner Pitchford?
3) The 1900 Census shows Marion married to Melissa, last name unknown. They were married for 7 years. Any info on her? The Illinois Statewide Marriage Index doesn't show any other marriages for Marion.
4) The Illinois Statewide Death Index doesn't have an entry for Marion as dying in 1906. Many here have it as 1 Apr 1906 in Perry Co, IL. Does anyone have any primary information on this?
4) Many researching this Pitchford line have Marion's parents as William D. Pitchford b ca 1790 GA who married Eliza Halter. Any primary sources on this? I can't find a thing!
5) Finally, I would love to correspond with anyone/everyone who is descended from this line. Feel free to respond to this thread, but also to me directly.
Best regards,
Eric Johnson, California

Pitchford, Ferdinand L, Mary Elvira Reynolds, John Austin Austin

Here's an interesting story that I would like to put here to see if anyone might be able to give me some clues as to how to prove any it. My Aunt Birdie (Pitchford) Petersen traced family roots for many years & is deceased. I am in possession of some of her papers which includes this story: Her Grandfather, Ferdinand L. Pitchford was a Private in the "Red Raiders" of MS Infantry, CSA 1861. (I have copies of his MusterIn Roll) It seems his wife, Mary was at the Battle of Shiloh & saw Ferdinand shot. She took hold of a cannon & fired at the enemy as he was dying. (There may be a picture of this in an old history book-1910-1912.) His friend, John Howsen came to the dying man & his wife and promised to take care of Mary & her son, Frank who was 3 yrs old. Subsequently, they were married and moved to Texas, supposedly until she died. At her death, John & his 2 sons returned to MS; Frank lived with his uncle, W. C. Pitchford. Aunt Birdie's papers say she died in Brazos County, TX in 1875. This is all a mystery and I am unable to prove any of the story except that Ferdinand did die at Shiloh & Mary married John, had two more sons. From John Howsen's descendants, I am told that he & Mary returned to Shiloh after their marriage & brought Ferdinand's body back to MS & reburied it, perhaps Sunflower County. I found Frank in Robertson County, TX as a boarder with a family named King in 1880. I also have record of where he bought 100 acres there. He is my grandfather but died before I was born; he married Missouri Bailey in 1882. So far, I have been unable to locate Ferdinand's grave and/or to document the story or Mary's death date/place. I have looked for information about these events for more than 10 years. Thanks for any ideas.

Hello cousin,

There are bits and pieces out there and some links to look at. Joseph Pitchford (b. abt. 1675, St Chad, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England) is the first Pitchford immigrant who came from the Pitchfords of Pitchford, England. Some believe he came through France to get here. He arrived about 1702 and settled in the British Colony called King William in Virginia. Elizabeth, also a Pitchford, is thought to have arrived later, about six months. They married and Samuel Pitchford, their only child was born about 1705. I think, because there is virtually no record of Elizabeth afer Samuel's birth, she died following his birth. As far as anyone knows, Joseph was not married to anyone else.
Some information is out there that Joseph's father was Edward J. Pitchford. People have stated that Edward's father was William Pitchford and Edward's mother was Elizabeth Aldersley. However, now that a lot of old genealogy books are available in online libraries, it seems William died leaving Elizabeth a widow and childless. She married Thomas Coventry and had his kids. So, it looks like we are not descendants of William and Elizabeth (Aldersley) Pitchford.
Elizabeth Aldersley Coventry is Prince Charles' and Princess Diana's tenth Great-grandmother. So alas, we are not royalty, but the Pitchfords who settled here and fought the British in the wars for independence had other great accomplishments.

Here is a link I found of someone working on it. Don't know if this person is still avaiable.
http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/PITCHFORD/2008-12/1...

This is from the LDS website
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?P...

I'll locate some links of sites with books you can view.

Later,
Belinda

My parents were close to forty when they had me and I am an only child. I have been researching family genealogy for almost three yrs. I found another Kelley cousin, whose Grandfather was my Grandfather's brother.
We share Mary Elizabeth Pitchford (our G-Grandmother).She married James Monroe Kelley. Mary's father was John Michael Pitchford, who is buried in the Baptist Cemetery in Jefferson, IL. His father was Samuel K. Pitchford.
It is nice to finally "meet" a cousin Pitchford.I appreciate
the info you send.
If your Samuel K is related to William D, then we would be cousins. This list isn't all of William Thomas Pitchford's kids. Just the four I have tried to follow.

This is a shortened version of a tree I found.
1 Joseph Pitchford Abt. 1675 - (English immigrant about 1702)
. 2 Samuel Pitchford Abt. 1705 - 1765 (only child!)
.... 3 William Thomas Pitchford Abt. 1733 - Abt. 1815
....... 4 Daniel Pitchford 1761 - 1843
.......... 5 William D. Pitchford
.........4 William Pitchford Jr Abt. 1763 - 1860
....... 4 Elias Pitchford 1769 - 1835
....... 4 Nathaniel Haywood Pitchford 1771 - 1846

I am from Elias Pitchford>Orange Davis Pitchford 1808-1842>Nero C. Pitchford 1830-1910>Finis Pitchford 1877-1956>Dean Pitchford 1901-1982 (My grandfather). My Pitchfords came to Texas from Kentucky.

This is the link with the tree that helped me out. I don't know if the owner of the tree can be reached anymore.
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/i/t/Charles-E-P...
PITCHFORD, SAMUEL K - Born: 1812, Father: PITCHFORD, WILLIAM, Mother: HATLER, ELIZA

This is from http://www.censusdiggins.com/kybarren_pe.html
Barren County, Ky marriage records. Not sure if William D Pitchford is the father of Samuel K, but still seems worth looking into.

1. Pitchford, William Hatler, Eliza m.18 Sep 1809

Barren County is the original county the Pitchford families migrated to. Allen County was formed from parts of Barren and Warren County in 1815.

Your Samuel K, if the son of William D and Elizabeth Hatler and was born in KY, would have possibly been born in Barren County.

Here is some information I found on the net, have you seen this?

From: Beltw@aol.com
Subject: Re: [ILWASHIN] Re: ILWASHIN-D Digest V00 #117
Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 01:49:23 EDT

I too was able to receive probate records from a very kindl worker in
Washington Co. records. Even got a copy. I was looking for my gggrandfather
William D. Pitchford 's children and found what was a good clue that the
Harrison Pitchford was his son.
Does anyone have a clue to this or of any other of his children.
Belt W.

The descendants of the sons of William Thomas criss-crossed the US from north to south well into the 1900's. It appears they were a tight clan. They always seemed to know where everyone was and either lived with their cousins or visited for long periods of time while looking for work. The Pitchfords were always buying land and owned their own businesses.

Samuel K may have been the son of William D or possibly the son of a John Pitchford. Anyway, they were always living in places where they could find their cousins and also so many of them shared the same names.

If you could locate a death certificate for Samuel K or his siblings it would state who the parents were. Also look for a census.

Look at this link:

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

Samuel K Pitchford was born Jan 3, 1812 KY and died Nov 4, 1847 in Jefferson, IL. He married Mary B Norris on Sept 23, 1832 in Washington, IL. I also found where someone wrote that he was born in 1805 in IL. I think the KY one is more correct.

Allen County, KY. County seat of Allen is Scottsville. A lot of Pitchfords are still there and a lot of history.

What year was Samuel K born? Other dates would be helpful also if you have them.

I can send you some links also that could help.
