Charles O was my grandfather, I remember George & Lorna and hearing of Maynard (don't recall any memories though) don't remember Harriet at all. Charles had four sons, first was still-born, then Charles, Gerald & Dennis.

Re: Asher

Hi, Asher is my gr gr grandfather. His name is Asher Augustus Pittenger. Her married Martha Reed 11 Oct 1849 in Lawrence County, Ohio. Martha was born 22 Sept 1826 in Lawrence County Ohio. Asher was born at Quakerstown NJ 8 May 1826. He died 9 Sept 1903 in Lawrence County, Ohio. Asher is the son of Jacob L Pittenger and Mary Baldwin. Jacob was born 1801/1802 in Hunterdon County, NJ. Jacob was the son of John Pittenger and Leah Hoaglin or Lea Hagling both of Hunterdon Co, NJ. John was the son of Abraham Pittenger Sr and Elizabeth Gano/Ganeau Amwell or Hunterdon Co, NJ. Abraham Sr was the son of Richard Pittenger II and Syche Hendrichse of Middlesex Co, NJ. Richard II was the son of Richard Pewtinger and Annetje Anthony. Richard Pewtinger was born probably in Holland. His father Richard left England in the early 1600's because the Puritans were being persecuted. Pewtinger/Pettinger/Pittenger/Pippinger are English. Hope this helps. Asher's daughter Rachel Louise Pittenger is my gr grandmother.

I am trying to find a picture of our house that was built in 1911-1912 in Raleigh NC. I have found that the first person to purchase the land was a Rev. Isaac M. Pittenger. He sold the land very quickly to his daughter and her husband. We are going to have a big celebration when the house turns 100 and I want to have a picture for that. I feel like if I can find a descendent of the family I can find a photo. Can anyone help me?

Thanks so much for the info you've given me- I'll continue to try to find out more re: the Davenports. Mine seem to have gone to Jefferson Township- will let you know if I find out more. My Timothy had : Sarah C. ,Malinda, Harriet, and Nancy in the 1850 census. I assume Elizabeth ( Pettinger) had died. Jane C. or Catherine Jane Davenport married Jacob Wooley as stated in the 1870 census and Nancy was living with them. Jane's father was listed as Timothy Davenport.Don't know where Jane is in the 1850 census-- too many Davenports!!! Are they all descended from Humphrey?

I've still not figured out who the parents of Timothy and Mary were (I'm assuming they had a common parents, but that's not certain since there were so many Davenports in the area at the time). I still have to get to the estate/guardian files in Morristown. I've just been working on other families.

Have just found that Timothy Davenport is probably the father of my Gr. Gr.Grandmother Nancy ( Annie) Tichenor Leonard. She was living with a Jane Wooley in Irvington in 1870. Jane's father was listed as Timothy Davenport. I am wondering if she was a Sarah Jane and was Nancy's sister. Any information on the Pittenger- Davenport relationship would be a great help! Nancy was living with Pittenger relatives in 1860- ( Sydney Kimble, Nancy Jane, and Sarah Pittinger ( age 52.)

So sorry.I did recieve the file and thank you very much for the wealth of information. Unfortunatly I think our Jacob b.1/24/1807-09 d.10/6/1881 in Frederick MD. Married Rebecca Ann Wilhide 12/7/1835 had 12 children. I thought his parents were John B. Pittenger and Rebecca Bird. Seems this might not be the case so I'm rethinking and trying to start over again with my Frederick MD Jacob. If you have any facts about this I would be eternally grateful. If I can help with all my NJ information just let me know..Bradine

I'm not sure if Jacob follows the NJ line or not. At first I thought he did but now I'm having second thoughts. I was stuck so long with him being born in Frederick MD and no idea of his parents. Finally found what I thought were his parents John B.and Rebecca Bird. Traced them to NJ and Richard who emigrated in 1665. But,now that seems to be wrong and I am right back to Jacob in MD. So back to square one. If the NJ Pittenger I do have would help you, let me know..Bradine Pittenger Meckley

This seems to be our problem..We did think it was the NJ Pittengers..We have as his parents John B. Pittenger b. 5/19/1768 and Rebecca Bird b. 12/1/1775. Born in Readington Twp.Hunterdon Co. NJ. Going the whole way back to Richard from Holland b.1665 in Holland.Emigrated to New Amsterdam in 1665. We were so happy with these facts but now we have some doubt.. AS we go further along we are less sure..Bradine

Hi,

Whether you have the same email address as over 6 years ago is uncertain, but here goes! I don't have any info on the Pittengers, but the name Slout caught my eye. Do you have more info on Elizabeth (?) Slout (1796-1879)? One of my great-great-grandfathers, William P. Slout, was born in Hunterdon Co., likely in Kingwood, in Dec. 1818, and his parents were Philip and Helena Slout. The birthdate for Elizabeth is of the same generation as Philip's; perhaps they were siblings? I'm pretty sure that Philip, Helena, and their family moved from Hunterdon to Ontario Co., NY, by the 1830s. Helena was widowed and living in East Bloomfield, Ontario Co., as of 1843, when she married a Col. George Smith and moved to Livonia, Livingston Co. (NY), but she died in 1845. William P. Slout was still living in East Bloomfield as of 1850, then married Anna Noonan and moved to Marshall, MI, by 1860. Any Slout info on your end will be much appreciated. Thanks!
