Clara Pittman Landolt, born 1860 in Switzerland

Seeking information about my great-great-grandmother. Her maiden name may not have been Pittman, but she is listed as Clara Pittman Landolt in her husband's obituary.

Facts are a little complicated, but I'm trying to figure out her birth name and who my great-grandmother's father was.

1910 Census: Clara is living with her husband John M. Landolt and three children in St. Louis, Mo. However, they've only been married 12 years and the youngest child is 13. Also, she's had 5 children with one still living. I believe the child listed as William M. Landolt is her biological child, born as Pittman in New York in 1886 because in the 1920 census he is listed as William Pittman (after Landolt had been written and then marked through.) It is possible that William was illegitimate and Pittman was Clara's maiden name or she married a Pittman.

I believe she and Mr. Landolt may have later lived in Bogalusa, Louisiana, where he died in 1947. His obituary lists her as Clara Pittman Landolt. I do not know when or where she died.

Any information on possible Pittman connections would be appreciated.
I can possibly tell you more than you want to know. William Washington Pittman was married twice. First to Rosa (3 children) and then to Samantha Blocker (7 children). My grandmother's brother and sister married a brother and sister of Samantha and William. My grandfather's son by his first marriage married a niece of William. My great grandmother's half brother married another niece of William. Kate's maiden name was Smith. I have information on the Pittmans back to Nathan Pittman 1734-1799. I don't know if she follows the boards, but a cousin in AZ is William's great granddaughter and she knows more than I about the Pittmans. email me: okienms@telepath.com

I have been searching fruitlessly for info about my family for a few years now. There are so many conflicting accounts online and on this website, so I have no idea what to believe. I would really appreciate some assistance.

My grandfather's mother was Willie Loraine PITTMAN (1920-1998?) and she married William Newman PAGE (1915-1993), her father's name was Isom Arthur PITTMAN (1896-1978) and her mother was Kate? (UNKNOWN - some say Kat(i)e Serena Gertrude Miller) PITTMAN. Isom's father was William Washington PITTMAN and the mother is unknown. Some reports call her Rosa Ann or Rosanna SWEARINGEN. All of the PITTMAN'S were born in Arkansas.

Can anyone help me? I would appreciate it more than you could imagine.

That information would be fantastic. John Pittman was also my great grandfather. My grandmother was John and Rosa's daughter, Pearl. Pearl married Louis Mickelson. They first lived in Garretson, SD and then moved to Bushnell, SD in 1920, where they raised their 8 children.

Last year, I visited the Fulton County genealogical library and found Doris Finney's Pittman Family History.

One thing that I would love to get would be a family photo of the John Pittman family.

Steven

Sorry to have not replied but I have not checked Ancestry for some time. The 1940 census rekindled my interest.

Yes, my grandfather John was the son of George Washington Pittman Elizabeth Clevenger. He was one of three Pittman siblings that married three Blum siblings.

There must be good stories out there.

Steven

Pittman/AMMONS: NC (Robeson) / SC

I have a theory that I'm trying to prove/disprove and wonder if anyone can help. I would preferably like to see records myself, but maybe someone can point me to something they remember coming across.

I know that my 3-great-grandfather was Nicholas Pittman, born around 1801. I know he is the son of Brittain Pittman, born around 1775-80. I know that Nicholas's wife, Celia, was born in South Carolina. I know that Nicholas had at least two brothers, Timothy (m. Rosey Ann Morris) and Levi, who both died in 1850.

I've seen a lot of people that list his wife as Celia Ammons, daughter of Joshua Ammons. If anyone knows where I can verify that she was an Ammons, it would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming that is correct, there's more to this story. Joshua Ammons had a son, Jesse, who then had a son, John. There is a John Ammons who married Esther Pittman in Robeson County in 1839, with Nicholas Pittman as witness. Esther died before the 1850 census, and there is a John Ammons living in another household nearby. Next door to Nicholas Pittman is Sarah Pittman (72, I believe this to be Brittain's widow), Henry Pittman (22, later married Helen Pittman) and Sarah Amons (7, I believe this to be the daughter of Esther and John).

All of the parts that I need to make this story fact are:

1. Esther was the daughter of Brittain, sister to Nicholas.
2. Celia is, indeed, Celia Ammons.
3. John Ammons, who married Esther Pittman, was the son of Celia's brother, Jesse Ammons.
4. They had a daughter, Sarah, before Esther died.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Moses Pittman ?>IN>IA>KS>OK

Searching for information on Moses Pittman (? > IN > IA > KS > OK) - specifically the names of his parents. Moses is consistent in saying he's born 1819-20 in Kentucky on censuses. Was married to Mary J. Hutton in 1843 in Parke County, Indiana. Moved then to Iowa, then to Kansas in the 1850s, where he spent 35 years of his life. Then moved to Oklahoma in the 1890s during the land rush there. Died in Canadian County, Okla. in 1900.

He supposedly had a brother living in Whiteside Co., Illinois in 1910. I don't know a name or if it's true. Possibilities for this brother in the 1910 census say they're born in Pennsylvania, and there appear to be online trees for them, without a Moses of the correct age. I know that doesn't mean he doesn't belong with these families, I'm just trying to figure out where he *does* belong, and get some solid proof of that.

His children are: Rebecca, Mary J., Esther, Robert, Sarah and Ambie. All but Robert and Sarah stayed in Kansas.

Pitman/Pittman grave sites in Pulaski County, KY & Lee County, KY area.

I am trying to locate the grave sites for my g., gg., ggg, and gggg. grandparents, Jesse Pittman (1843 - 1900) and Polly Estes (1840-1916). Probably buried in what may have been called the Pitman/Pittman cemetery at one time. Located somewhere in Lee Co. KY. Micajah Pitman (1813 - 1876) m. 1st. Naomi Johnson (1814 - 1852), 2nd Mary Etta Ketchum (1830 - 1880). Probably in Lee County area also. Jesse Pitman (1769 - 1826) and Charlotte Skinner (1773 - 1828). Probably Lee County area too. Micajah Pitman (1750 -1834) and Lydia Morgan (1752 - 1855). They would be in Pulaski County, KY. Any info regarding any of these graves sites (even location of possible cemeteries) would be greatly appreciated. I can also be contacted and gypsyqueen@wildblue.net.

Benjamin F. Wagers (1877 - 1960) wife Lucy Smallwood was my husband's grandfather. Info I have on him came from census records, KY death records and family members. Benjamin Wagers (1816) was my husband's 2nd great grandfather. His wife was Elizabeth Smallwood. 1850 census. Benjamin Wagers (1742 - 1844) was my husband's 4th great grandfather. Record I have for him is U.S. Veterans Gravesites, ca. 1775-2006. I primarily use ancestry.com and have found that in searching census records I am more successful when I can search the individual county records rather than searching generally in the census records.

When I asked, if I remember right it took the person who found Jesse Bullocks land a couple of years to find it, and then it was not exact.

If you'd like to email me, jan at bullocks.org

He lived on Verbena St, New Orleans in the 1930 census with his wife Edna Williams Pittman and 4 1/2 year old son Robert A Pittman. Then I lose track of him till 1970 when he dies in Lubbock, TX. Were there other children?

His parents were Malcolmson Pittman b. England and Alma Filleau. Algernon's siblings are said to be Edward, Ruth, Wirth, Mountain, Malcolmson, Jr. Malcombson, Jr seems to have stayed in New Orleans and had children (who were they?) but Algernon died in TX. What happens to Edward?
