My mothers family are from Hull. She and one other sister immigrated to Canada. My mom married a Canadian soldier, and moved here near the end of the war. Her sister and her husband and son came here some years later. I lost contact with those in England as mom past away a few years ago. My mom's name was Annie and her sister's name was Ester.

Hi Heidi,
I have lots of information on the Plattens in GB. My family still lives there and keeps in touch. My Grandmother was Mary (known as Maisie) Platten, sister of your Marie Helen (known as Nell) I knew her as Aunt Nell. Uncle Tony's name isn't Anton - it is Michael Anthony.

The family included, Michael Anthony (Tony) 1896 - 1976, Marie Helen (Nell)1898-1981, Mary Frances (Maisie) 1898-1957, William Henry (Heinie) 1900-1966, Edward Joseph (Ed)1903-1973, Vincent Michael 1905-1974. They were all children of Joseph Michael Platten 1870-1953 and Rose Stella Maher 1874-1935. His parents were John Joseph Platten 1833-1921 and Anna M Kaiser 1836-1921. Her parents were Michael A Maher 1841-1894 and Jane Frances Simpson 1839 - 1891.
I will attach a picture of the Platten kids in 1903. I don't really know how this works, so I don't know where the picture goes.

I think you may have corresponded with my mother Eileen before her death in 2001. You can email me directly at
tughillmom at a-znet.com

Sharon

Yep, your definitely one of the "Green Bay" Plattens that originated in Moersdorf. We are related through John Joseph and Anna Kaiser (daughter of Antone Kaiser & Anna Mausse). Based on the information I have Marie Helen wed George Lohey but your portion of the family tree dies out there. I would love any details you could add. Marie Helen had 5 brothers, Michael Anthony, Vincent Mathew, William Henry, Anton and Ed. I have some details regarding Michael Anthony's children but not much else.

If you would like details, you can contact me at chris@plattencpa.com which is my work email. I have many pages of source materials (stories, news articles, passage tickets, etc.) and would be happy to pass them off to someone who is actively researching.

His father was John Joseph and his mother is unknown to me at the moment maybe a Kaiser? His parents were Anton Platten and Mary Biblehausen. I dont have a lot of details to add. Wish I did. Maybe you might have some for mine? Good Luck and Thanks

Heidi :)

I am also related to the Platten Family from the Morsdorf area. The Platten family, who immigrated in 1842 to Pine Grove, Brown County, Wisconsin, US, included the second wife of Anton Platten, Mary Bibelhausen. Gratendorn was the Bibelhausen home and Berglicht was their church. However, some Platten-Bibelhausen records are found in the nearby Valwig parish.

Can you tell me any information on the Bibelhausen family of the area and if there are any of that family still living inthe area.

Mary Bibelhausen Platten was sister to my great-great-great grandfather John Michael Bibelhausen who immigrate 2 years after the Platten family to Pine Grove and lived next to them, along with related neighbors the Frank Stein/Kenali(also Corneli)Family.

Thank you,
Rita

Hi Cliff,

your ancestors are from my home region, but I am sorry, we are not related through the "Hammes" line.
Bruttig is a village in the Mosel valley about 25 - 30 kilometres away from my homevillage (and from the origins of my Hammes line). My family didn't have relatives there for the last ab. 350/400 years (as far as I know.)
The name Hammes is spread all over the Mosel area an the surrounding mountainsides and it seems there where several regions where the name developped in the 1400s or 1500s.
It is possible (but I don't know how probable) that there where relations between several Hammes families before 1600/1630 (that is before the first parish records started).

Sorry I can't help you but I may have a hint for you. Look at the Hammes family board. Look for Richie Fellie or for Bob Hammes - I don't remember exactly but I think one of them has mentioned Hammes from Bruttig (or other Bruttig relatives) before.
And if you look up German records don't search for "Frank" but for "Franz" and his wifes surname was surely spelt "Goebel" or "Göbel" in German records.

Hope you'll soon find the right line. Good luck.

Greetings from Germany
Bärbel Hammes
Hi Jean,

sorry, not really. - As I know by now.
The Hammes families are spread over an area of about 100 kilometres of length. There are several branches of Hammes in the Rhineland and it will be hard to connect them to each other- if there ever were connections as well.
My Hammes branches are from Dommershausen, Morshausen and Beulich and there is no trace to Bruttig known by now.
There might have been some connections but is hard to find them today.

If you look for Bruttig Hammes try to contact to Richard Hammes who has posted and answered threads in the Hammes-board. His branch came from Gillenfeld at the Eifel and this village might have had some more connections to Bruttig as my Hammes. It is just a guess, but I think it may be more possible than my Hammes.

After all, I think that we only now little of these people and there relations in the 1600s and 1700s.

Greetings and Good Luck from Germany
Baerbel
