I am searching for information on Sarah Mercer who married John Williams. They are the parents of Edith Williams born June 13, 1883. Edith Williams came to Canada not sure exactly when but she is my father's mother.

Margaret & Mary Plumpton & husband Richard Mercer, Prescot, Lancashire, England

Richard, the son of James Mercer, was born about 1825 to 1830 in Lancashire, England as far as I know. His mother's name may have been Mary. His father may have died by the 1851 census. He may be the Richard who appears with a James & Mary Mercer in Prescot on the 1841 census and the Richard who appeares with his widowed mother Mary Mercer on the 1851 census for Prescot.

He married May 12, 1851 (certificte says his father's name was James)at the parish church in Liverpool to Margaret Plumpton.

Their 3 children were:
Mary born about 1853 (my great grandmother - md John Finney),
Ann or Annie born about 1857 (md Tom Byron & had 1 son - Fred who had a daughter Barbara),
Ellen born about 1860 (md Richard Heaton and had 3? children: Margaret, Maud & Francis Ellen(Nellie) Heaton).

Richard's wife, Margaret, died about 1861-1862 and Richard remarried about 1862 to a widow: Mary Plumpton who had 2 children from previous? marriage?: Margaret Plumpton born about 1851 & James Plumpton born about 1857. Richard's second wife appears to have been dead by the time of the 1901 census.

The children of Richard & Mary were:
James Mercer b 1862?,
Margaret Mercer b 1864?,
Richard Mercer b 1866?, unmarried & with father on 1901 c
Elizabeth Mercer b 1868?,married & with father on 1901 c
Sarah Mercer b 1870?, unmarried & with father on 1901 c

All of these children of the 2 wives and Mary's children by first relationship appear to have been born in Prescot, Lancashire, England.

I would like to make contact with descendants of Richard Senior or his siblings, or others who are researching Plumpton in the Prescot area.

Hello there!!!

I am tracing my husband's family and I really need some help.

So far, besides his family and his aunts and uncles, I have his grandparents and that is where I am stuck.

My husband's grandparent's names were:
John Currie Plumpton (b. 1895 and d. 1960)
he married: Lizzie Grace Hill (b. 1899 and d. 1993)
I know that this couple once resided in the Seymour Township, Ontario (Just outside of Campbellford, Ontario) and at some point they moved to Peterborough, Ontario.
They had 9 children: Marcella, Minervi, Edna, John, Wilson, Marion, Lavina, Charles and Elizabeth.
