Re: Looking for my Dad (George Edward Pocklington)

Steve's father was Edward William John Pocklington born 1923 London; his father was William b about 1870 London and his father was John b abt 1840 London. John's father was Eusebius (I think aka William as was his father) who was b Notts 1802 and married Mary in Boston Lincs in 1823, they had several children, came to London in 1830s and had two or three more sons.
'Your' George is descended from another of Eusebius' sons - there was a 20 year gap between the eldest and youngest child.
I sent Steve's (and Karen's) family tree to a couple (Daph and Doug King) who run a Pocklington website. If you are interested I can give you their email address - you may know of them already.
Anyhow, let me know if you want any more information. My email address is adrienne.roche@blueyonder.co.uk (I'm also on Facebook - but there's no Pocklington history on it) I am the on who does all the family history - Steve is interested to a degree but hasn't domne any research - I even found his half siblings for him.
Incidentally, Your cousin George has a daughter and son (half siblings to Karen) who I think may live in this country. I can write to Karen and ask her - I no longer have her phone number, she lives in Oxfordshire - but you may just find them on 192.c0m. I can't recall the son's name but if I do, will let you know.I don't think the son was that interested in family history.
There is another relative,a cousin, I think also called Karen who was in contact with me a few years ago - she's about the same age (abt 50) as George's daughter Karen and I think lives in Surrey; perhaps she's your sister or maybe you know of her anyway
There are possibly some family on Genes Reunited too.

George was my cousin. His father was also George (my uncle). 2 other brothers were Arthur (Bill), my father and Charles.
Who was your partners grandfather? I have no knowledge of Steves father in my family tree.

I think that George may well be dead now, which means Iam the sole survivor of this age group.

regard Derek
Re Karen's email of 2003,she found her father in Bulawayo not long afterwards and they were in touch. George is a 3rd cousin of my partner(Steve Pocklington)'s late father Edward. They share the same great great grandfather. I know where Karen is but I don't know if she has visited her father or whether he is still alive. His mother Queenie/Minnie lived to a great age and died just a couple of years ago.

George Edward Pocklington was my cousin. He moved to Kent with his mother when his father died. His sister left to be with a man and that is the last I have heard.

The last information I have of George is that he move to Africa, Bulawayo, when his marriage broke up .

John JUBB

We believe John JUBB who came to South Carolina about 1730 as and indentured servant to a Mr. Taylor could be the father or grandfather of Susannah and William JUBB who first appear in the Maryland USA census in 1790.
John and Catharina JUBB had four children in the 1740's and 1750's, two were Susannah and William.

The reference to Mr. Taylor, John JUBB and the time frame appeared in one of Peter Wilson Coldham's books as due to go to the American Colonies.
My recolection of the reference was the PRO in London.
I would be more specific, but we had moved and the notes are currently misplaced.

The next reference to John JUBB is on the South Carolina Genweb site. This site notes the family of Catherina Shuler, her marriage to John JUBB and the birth of their four children.
There is no indication of marriages or deaths of their four children.
The next reference we found is that of two JUBB's Susannah and William in the 1790 census in Maryland.
After that, William JUBB marries Avis HAMMOND in 1792.
Susannah JUBB seems to disappear.

I am a direct descendent of William JUBB and have extensive research on his three sons and their families.

The John JUBB I am looking for should be about the same age as your Richard.
Any connection that you may know or do you know anyone I should send my queery to?

Thank you,
Anita Robertson
jhaas@friend.ly.net

Are yours in Britain or dispersed in the colonies including the US?

My first interest is in the JUBB's who may have come to the US and to establish the direct ties to Britain. I would certainly like to proceed from there.

Please feel free to contact me directly as well as on the board.

Sincerely,
Anita

Hi,

I am researching my wife's family, and she is kin to the Pocklington's from Richmond, VA. I don't have very much information though. Her great-great grandmother was Laura Virginia Pocklington born Aug 5,1858 in Richmond. Her father was John R. Pocklington born about 1833 in Rchmond. He was married to Mary Penny. They had a son William T. Pocklington. I really don't have much more information. In 1860 there was a Daniel Pocklinton living with John R and Mary. I am guessing probubly John R.' s brother. Thanks! Any help is appreciated.

Justin Elliott

hornibrook family tree

To all Hornibrooks out there. I am trying to trace any relatives I may have, the name Hornibrook is unusual and I know that my ancestors came from Ireland. My Father was John Joseph Hornibrook who came from County Cork,he died in january 1998 and is buried in Killcullin cemetery Cork. His Mother was Christine Dalores, and his father was also named john.My father was born in Francis strret Cork City in 1932, he had two brothers, Michael, and Connor, and a sister Agnes who still resides in Cork and is now a Hurley.I currently live in Gloucestershire, England. I hope someone can help me to get started, as I am not having much luck at present due to little information.

Nicky,I was about to say I don't think she was born in born in Brisbane. Just checked some notes I took when I was in Brisbane doing Pock. research last year. On 25 May 1904 a George Pock. married a Lydia Louisa Simpson reference 04/002122.

Lydia Louisa Pock. died 12 June 1925 aged 45yrs. I think she is buried in Lutwyche Cemetery with a Louise Hornibrook Pocklington (not sure if this is correct or I'm written it down incorrectly) who died 28 Sept. 1930.

Lydia Annie Pock. married Eric Leonard Hornibrook 1929 Reference 1929/B007360.

I'm happy to try and help you find more, if you would like me to look up the Queensland BDM indexes please let me know. My local family history centre has them.

I don't know why my mother said we were related to the Hornibrook family, I haven't found any connection; but it was a remark I remember her making several times when we saw the name on building hoardings. Should have thought to ask her when she was alive.

If you'd like to email me privately feel free to.

Bye for now
Leonie Stanley

Thank you for your reply. Yes my grandad was one of the brothers of the Hornibrook construction company. I don't have any information about nan, but I think she was born in brisbane I could be wrong though. (Most likely I am :0).

Nicky

Was your grandfather related in any way shape or form to the Hornibrook construction company? My mother's maiden name was Pocklington and she often would say that the family was related to the Hornibrook's,
Apart from that do you know where you grandmother came from before emigrating to Queensland?
My mother's family emigrated to Queensland and while researching them I found your grandparents marriage but can't connect them as yet
