Joseph A. H. Poitevin of Aix - Parents

Hello!

I've been looking for information on the names of the parents for Joseph August Hughue(?) Poitevin for some time, but I haven't been able to find much though. I know that Joseph was a doctor, born in Aix en Provence, France on May 30, 1819. He also said he left Aix for Aubagne in 1826 because his father was appointed Chief of Police there. He left a document saying that his father died Mar 16, 1854 (2AM) at Aubaque age 71, and his mother died Sept. 21, 1858 11PM in Mobile, AL at age 64, but he does not leave their names. He had a brother named Eugene as well who died in Mobile, AL 7/23/1875 (age 54). Joseph moved to Toulon and would later move to Pensacola, Florida where he married Merced Palmes in 1845. He moved to Mobile, AL around 1847 and died 7/4/1877 in Pascagoula, MS.

The only other clue I have to his ancestry is a birth certificate my father got (My father doesn't know much about it other than that it was given to him along with the other material on J. Poitevin a long time ago). The certificate is doesn't seem to be for Dr. Poitevin, though, because it gives the name of Joseph Jacques Sinoine Maxime Riez Poitevin, born 10/27/1760, son of Andre Gaspar (lawyer and first Mayor), and Marie Arme Josephine Gayden. I'm not sure how (or if) he is related, perhaps he is the grandfather, because the date of birth was so long prior. I'm also not quite sure why his father's last name looks like it is Gaspar and not Poitevin?

Any information that anyone may have about this would be SO appreciated! Thank you all and have a wonderful day!

I'm not sure if there is any connection, but my g-grandmother would have been a Marie Viens. The only information I have on Marie Viens is she was married to Joseph Morin (or Murray). Records show both these names. My grandmother was Marie Odele Morin, a.k.a. Ozilda Mary Morin (or Murray). Records show her born 9/23/1883 in Newmarket NH, and baptized 9/24/1883 at St. Mary?s Church, 182 Main St. Newmarket NY. She married William J Godbois prior to 1908, probably in Newmarket and later on moved to Dover NH.
Any possible links there?

I am trying to find the parents of Philomene. Philomene married Felix St. George from the Massachusetts, Rhode Island area. Her siblings are Seraphine Potvin, Celanire Potvin, Honore Potvin, Elisa Potvin. I believe her mother may have been Cecile Pappilon, and her father may have been Antoine Arpin-Potvin. I have Antoine listed as both Antoine Potvin, and Antoine Marie Poitevin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Judy. Well, I am not sure if there is a connection, but I have found more information since my post last year. My gggrandmother, Marie Anne, was adopted by Tharsile Potvin and Joseph Viens. Her parents are listed as unknown, father indian. She was baptised 1864 at the Catholic Church at Dunham, County of Missisquoi, District of Bedford, Province of Quebec. Godfather, Joseph Petit, godmother, Marie Anne Carlebois. Marie Anne Viens married Benoni(William) Bruneau. My mother tells me we do have Morin in our family line, but our Marie Anne Viens do not appear to be the same person. Who knows? There may be a connection somewhere. Will keep you in mind if I run across something that may connect us. Laurie

In 1797 Pierre Bourdeau married Julie Harpin dit Petevin in Vincinnes, Indiana. Her father was Francois Poitevin dit Harpin and mother was Therese Genevieve Chartier. Francois Parentage was Jean Baptiste Poitevin and mother was Genevieve Perron. Jean Baptiste signed the Oath of Allegiance at Vincinnes against the British during the revolutionary War. His parentage was Jean Baptiste Harpin dit Poitevin nd Marie Vaudry. This is my interest and I have researched my Grandmothers heritage for many years. The first settlers came from Canada in around 1735 and were fur traders and trappers. They stayed as a very very close community even until this day. Some names have simply "died out." Others hAve been grossly misspelled during to ingnorance. I beleive a deritive is Potvin. By the way, Julie and Pierre were my 3rd great grandparents.
