Wondering if anyone out there has family information for Frankie, my great grandmother. She married my great grandfather Barak Chambers in 1895 in Cullman, AL where she died and is buried. According to census records, her father was born in Ireland, mother in Georgia. Would love to find additional information on her immediate family... mother, father, siblings. Thank you!

Hello William, I am descended from James Pool (b.1805 Annan Scotland) he was a clogger, married to Eliz.Louden (b.1800 Scotland) They were resident in Aspatria, Cumberland by 1841 with their 8 children. I seem to recall from other messages that possibly some of those children went to America. My line of the family are living in New Zealand. Hope this is of interest.--Mo

1867 Laurens SC Church, Built with land and materials from Pool family

the "New Prospect Baptist Church" in Laurens SC is believed to be the oldest church in SC established by freed slaves. This traditionally black church was built with land and materials donated by Wm Henry Pool (who had been a very prosperous cotton farmer prior to the Civil War). Most of the original church members had been workers on the Pool farm.

This small church with a proud tradition is going to celebrate its 145th anniversary in April, 2012.

Would appreciate any additional information / old photos on this church. (email wtpool@charter.net).

I can provide info on planned 145th anniversary celebration for anyone interested.

Pictures of me, my 1st cousin, my dad, and (portrait) of my great grandfather are so similar that it could be the same guy. Also - we have a lot of Alexander's and Williams in our family line.
I would be happy to share any information I have. If we are in the same Pool line, the extensive DNA testing (especially the Pool "Y chromosome" and "deep clade testing" that I have had done may be of interest.
Hello,

I'm also looking for a pool/poole. My 3rd gen grandfather was James M. Poole. He married in McNairy Co., Tenn to a Dovie Liles. The marriage certificate said he was from Hardin Co., Tenn.
I haven't found any verifiable info as to who his parents were...maybe we can help eachother out.
For John Richard Pool is 1845 his birth or death date?
John C Pool do you if he died in Hardin Co., Tenn?

I have connection to the Pool/Poole of Annan Scotland. James Pool brn April 1802 Annan mrd Elizabeth Louden/Lowden ard 1830. I do not know if this was his first mrg but it was the second for Elizabeth who was first mrd to Joseph Thomson/Thompson of Annan. They had two children, John & Mary Thomson. Joseph Thomson died ard 1827 in Annan. James Pool & Elizabeth Louden, my 3gen grandparents had 8 known children before he died at the age of 44yrs on Oct 18 1846 in Aspatria, Cumberland. Their children were, Robert, Elizabeth, William, James Louden, Nanny, James, Miller & Thomas Pool. Son, Robert Pool/Poole brn Feb 11 1832 in Annan was a "Independant Minister" found in 1871 Sedbergh, Yorkshire England. He had written a book that had a brief & not very informative history of his fathers life in Annan. I have not been able to determine the name of James Pool's father but it may have been "William"? Elizabeth Louden/Lowden was first cousin to Rev. Edward Irving of Annan Scotland, which I suppose? meant that her mother was an Irving? Does anyone have a connection to this James Pool? Thank-you.
Laurelee

is it the Alexander Pool Sr, who was born about 1735 and died intestate in Mecklinburg VA leaving two sons - Alexander Jr and James that you are researching?

According to extensive work by Belva Cauthen, both boys were raised by the Ragsdale family. Alexander Jr moved to NC and James moved to SC-- possibly living in NC briefly. Records show that James owned land both in SC and NC-- but the large / sucesful cotton farm was in Laurens SC -- they owned a large amount of land adjacent to the Reedy River.

do you know of any DNA testing on this line.... one of my Y DNA matches claims this line -- we have a very rare haplogroup G1 ( < .1% of population ).... so if the Annan Scotland Pool's are of this haplogroup, they are almost certainly close relatives.

I know there is a genealogical society with Pool among their member surnames in Annan, however, I have been unable to make contact.

I found this at the Mississippi Dept. of Archives and History:

Tippah County Circuit Court Records 1849-1886

March Term 1856 - page 81

5009. State v. Charles C Rucker. March, 1856. (#1015) Murder of Wesley A. Pool on March 1, 1855. Pool was shot in the breast to a depth of six inches and instantly died. Indicted March 1855. ........

(page 82)Found not guilty.

There are names of suritys and jurors, but I did not list them.

Wesley is also mentioned in court records in March of 1853 for a case that was in March of 1852 and again in March 1854 of having a fine set aside.

So he was in Tippah by March 1852 until 1855 when he died. I did find a mention of his probate for Jan 3, 1855. Since the murder date was for March 1, 1855, this could be a case of the month and day getting transposed wrong, but the year is correct. His son, my ancestor Wesley Allen Pool Jones, was born in May, 1855.

I was really suprised when I found this entry....shocked actually! I would love to find the actual court records or a newspaper article about the murder. I have found that Charles Rucker was a doctor and lived until the 1870's.

My prayers and wishes were always with Todd in the hopes that he was OK. I would love to hear from Todd and let him know I care about and miss Jada, I can see her smile and beautiful eyes even now when her memory crosses my mind.
Shirley,
Today I received an email from a DNA match that has made me so happy that I found myself tearing up! This person is descended from William Riley Rogers, brother to Lavinia Rogers. We matched on the autosomal test that matches DNA that is passed down from each person you are descended from. By my calculations, this person is my 5th cousin with our common ancestor being the parents, George Rogers and Elizabeth Tippett.

So to finally solve this and put it to rest:

Wesley Poole and Lavinia Rogers both survived the wagon train attack, lived as man and wife up until 1854/55 when my 2nd great grandfather was born. Dude as he is called is their child, and more than likely the George that is 2 years older is as well. I wish I could find one of his descendants.

Right after I got the email, I called Connie and shared the news with my new "cousin"!! William Lavert Cartwright and Wesley Allen Poole Jones (Dude) are half brothers!! YEAH!!!!!

Now to find a male Rogers descendant to take the Ydna test to find out which line George Rogers belongs to!!

Is there a Pool DNA project website we can follow to get more detail son this? I am finally starting to research my Pool ancestry. I have just recently coordinated the DNA testing of my Gibbs side. The information and results one can get from a DNA test is astounding and usually surprising. Thank you, Terri
An update from my last post:

With the Y-DNA testing done, I've been able to prove that the family tale of "We're really Poole's, not Joneses" is indeed true. It's also proved that Wesley Allen Poole b. 1827 did not die in 1851/2 but lived until about late 1854 or early 1855. His son Wesley Allen Poole, Jr. was born in May of 1855. This is who my father is descended from and carry's on the same Y-DNA genes.

The DNA test shows that we have a match to descendants of 3 brothers of the William Poole, father of Wesley Poole, Sr.
Other matches show that this Poole line is decendants of William Pettypool.

Wonderful technology has broken down our brick wall and taken us back to the 1600's and England!

Now that we've proven who Wesley Poole Jr's father was, I'm trying to prove who is mother is. I have had the autosomal testing done on my father, and so far have connected to several others that have the Rogers surname in their trees. So far I have not found a common ancestor, but many of the locations of the lines are shared....hopefully I will find the missing link soon!

My husband is a decendant of Nicholas Pool, Laban Chapman Pool, Thomas Jefferson Pool, and Joseph Laban Pool. Do you have any information of the cause of death of Thomas Jefferson, as he was quite young. The story goes that his son, ran away from home and became a messenger for Robert E. Lee. Can you verify any of this?

What is your source for saying that William Poole b 1728 and Elizabeth Shipley, who were married in the Quaker meeting at Wilmington DE in 1761, were the parents of your Richard Pool born in Virginia in 1766?

Unless there is strong evidence for it, I think it must be wrong. William and Elizabeth married in Wilmington and died there in 1779 and 1789 respectively. They were Quakers. Wilmington Quaker records (according to the abstracts I have seen - I haven't looked at the originals) only mention one child for them, a son William born 1764, who became a prominent personality in Wilmington and died there in 1829.

The elder William had another son Joseph b 1757, and two daughters who died young, by his first wife Martha Roberts. His (William's) will mentions his sons Joseph and William but no Richard.

Also, Benjamin Ferris, the historian of Wilmington, who was married to a granddaughter of Elizabeth Shipley by her first husband Oliver Canby, left a manuscript history of the Shipley and related families, now in the Historical Society of Delaware at Wilmington, which does not mention Richard. He specifically says that Elizabeth Shipley and William Poole had "one son" William.

Sorry!
