the "New Prospect Baptist Church" in Laurens SC is believed to be the oldest church in SC established by freed slaves. This traditionally black church was built with land and materials donated by Wm Henry Pool (who had been a very prosperous cotton farmer prior to the Civil War). Most of the original church members had been workers on the Pool / Poole farms.

This small church with a proud tradition is going to celebrate its 145th anniversary in April, 2012.

Would appreciate any additional information / old photos on this church. (email wtpool@charter.net).

I can provide info on planned 145th anniversary celebration for anyone interested.

I finally found the missing link. I was able to locate and talk to the son of Dorothy Poole Krieger, Scott Poole Krieger. Dorothy parents were John Edward Poole (son of John Gobal Poole and Mary Boory)and Marie Malhke b. abt. 1880 in Germany. John Edward born 1880 in Waynesburg, Ohio died abt 1935 in California. John Edward and Marie had 2 children William Boory Poole (never married) b. abt. 1903 d. in the 1970's in California and Dorothy Pauline Poole b. 1913, d. 2002 in California. Dorothy married Chester Krieger having 3 children.

Hello, It's all a puzzle to me right now. Your right Dorothy doesn't appear on census with her parents. No I haven't been in contact with spencerstudley55. I will have to try to connect with him. If you can send the info to me I will sift through it. After the death of John Gobal Poole, Mary remarried John L. Boylan abt 1889. This marriage did end in divorce. Looking at the 1920 census for Calfornia Mary is living in the household with her daughter and son-n-law Pauline D. (Poole) Paine or Payne aka Drusilla Pauline Poole and Walter Paine or Payne. As I have been told Dorothy middle name is Pauline. Dorothy married Chester Krieger. Educated guess?? Maybe Dorothy is the daughter of Pauline D. Paine and Walter?? I have found no records to prove this. Your help is greatly appreciated. Fred

Hi..all this info checks out..but Dorothy never seems
to appear on the census that her parents do. Or am I wrong
on this. I noticed that the tree of spencerstudley55 has
the same lineage. Have you been in touch with him?? I found
some info that might be so far "off the wall"..do you want
the info anyway? It is no problem for me to send it to
you.Is it Dorothy Poole who married a Krieger? or Dorothy
K. Poole. I was thinking maybe Mary and John divorced and
that Mary's new husband adopted Dorothy..

Hi..in my research I found the following:
quinnie Poole b: 1857 Tenn. married Jim Alsbrook.
James (Jim) was born in 1861 in Alabama. In 1905 they lived
in Dallas Texas. Listed in the 1905 US Directories for
James Alsbrook. Hope this helps you in your research...
Their names are connected to the Cowden family tree.

My connection is with Boory's from Stark County, Ohio. I've been told that Dorothy Poole Krieger grandparents were John Gobal Poole and Mary A. Boory. I did find William and Rose Poole from California having a daughter Dorothy. But John and Mary (according to my records) did not have a son by the name of William. I did check the 1930 California census finding William and Rose but no Dorothy. I'll keep checking. Thanks for you help. Fred

This was compile by an elderly family member who worked on it for 20 or 30 years & is only a partial listing of her notebooks full of research.

I know this posting is quite old, however, I just started working on my family tree and found this interesting. William Henry Poole was my gggrandfather. My grandmother was Mary Poole sister to Mattie and Ella. In fact Ella lived with my family off and on when I was young. She and Mattie were married to brothers; Mattie to Bob and Ella to Jim. They were both widows for as long as I could remember. I only suspected recently that Mattie and Ella were probably 2nd wives. I am still looking for info on Jeraldine Teasley's family. Hi all!
I am a descendant of James Monroe Poole via his son Reuben Norman Poole, his son Durwood Pool, and his son Darrell Pool. I'm having an incredible amount of trouble finding anything about James Monroe (or anyone for that matter). Unfortunately, all of the family members who have any personal knowledge have all passed on. Most sources I have found only list his name as the son of Peter Stovall Poole and Mary Jane Martin, born in 1877 and may have died in Titus Co. Texas in the 1960's. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Henry Poole and family, Florence,Henry,Dorothy,Edward,Lucey and Etta Power lived in Hopewell, Pictou Co. Nova Scoria in 1881, as per the Canadian Census.
They do not appear in later census and I wonder if anybody has any record of the family beyond that date.

They may have moved to the USA, as I cannot find them in any Province of Canada in the 1891 Census.
