Yes--these are my Pooley family. If I remember correctly, Dinah/Diana was one of the two children of Honor who survived to raise a family. After her start in life, I have a great deal of respect for her. I always felt sorry for Honor.

I have done--and am still doing--research on the Pooley line and I have a LOT of information, particularly on William & Lydia, and Robert and Mary Ann (am still ploughing through William's parents, John and Sarah!). Robert and Mary Ann were my great-grandparents.

I do have a few photos from Wetheringsett, but not of Robert or William.

Not sure if you are still looking into Pooley's from Wetheringsett, but I am looking into this line as well. My Grandmother was Dinah Joan Pooley b. 1870 Eye, Suffolk, daughter to Honour Pooley b.1845 Wetheringsett. Honour was the daughter of William Pooley b. 1818 & Lydia Keeble.
Do you have any information on that branch? or infact on Robert Pooley b.1845 who married Marianne Stammers?

Would also be grateful to know if you have any photographs of any Pooley's from Wetheringsett?

I recieved your message and I also read the message from Elaine, She is right about getting information about my grandfather from the book Vengence of private pooley, also if you enter his name into google you will find loads more information about him, and there is also some photo's of him.

I am so happy to get this answer from you! Really. I did send email to both Patricia and Jane on this board. I wish I could have their personal email adresses but I guess they will get the message anyway. Thank you for you advice. Yes I did read the book and also found some informations about my own village and my family in it. I grew up going to the commemoration every year as it was happening in front of my great grandmother café. Albert Pooley's story is terrible but so remarkable indeed.
The commemoration is still going on. This year it will on the 28th may and we are expected to have the children and some people from Paradis, and also veterans, relatives and friends coming over from the UK. You are more than welcome to join us if you happen to want to come to the North of France.

We are now in touch and I am very happy about that,

Its lovely to hear from someone of the Creton family. In fact, my father was a cousin of Albert Pooley's wife and remembers him from before 1939. My father is now 85 and Albert Pooley died some years ago. Jane Ralph is Albert Pooley's grand daughter and her details are also on this link. I'm sure Jane and her mother could give you lots of information about what happened. Also, there is a very good book detailing it all called 'The Vengeance of Private Pooley' by Cyril Jolly which is out of print but you could probably get hold of it on Amazon.

I have only recently joined this Ancestry site and found your message. Eliza Pooley features (distantly) on my tree - the George Dennington she married was the son of a George Dennington (born Alderton 1802) who was my great-great grandfather. I have a copy of his will and an early photograph of three of his grandchildren.

According to my records Eliza Pooley-George Dennington (married 1855)had 5 children: Henry Moore Dennington (born Melton 1856), Eliza E Dennington (born Bromeswell 1858), George Dennington (born Streatham 1862), Alice Mary Dennington (born Bethnal Green 1869) and Hannah Moore Dennington (born Poplar 1871. The middle name MOORE in some of these children relates back to the maiden name Mary MOORE of Bawdsey who married "my" George Dennington in Alderton on 5th November 1827.

Hope this is of interest. I think that these details appear on the MANN1 tree that is published on the Ancestry siter.

There was a Pooley's tenement in Bridgerule earlier in the 1800s (I think its listed around 1830), not sure if that helps! It's listed on a website for the Yeo family, as it appears in a will for one Richard Banbury.

It would appear that Samuel Richard Pooley was illegitimate and his mothers name was Eliza Pooley christened 19 Sep 1819 at Clopton Suffolk.Her father was John Pooley born 1793 at Clopton and his wife was Charlotte Buckingham

I am descended from the POOLEY/POOLY family of Darlington Township, Durham County, and of course I have come across Philip PULEY in my research. I believe that, at long last, I've found the link with Mary Ellen Wales b 1847 who married John Pooley. Mary's parents were Richard Peters Wales b 1826 and Mary Ellen Cornelius b 1825. Richard's parent were John Edwards Wales b 1801 and Joanna Peters b 1796. (that's where the Peters comes in)John Edwards wales parents were Thomas Wales b 1761 and Jane Edwards b 1764.

I believe Philip Puley may be the father of my gg grandmother, Elizabeth Puley James. According to the 1871 census, Elizabeth and two of her children made their home with William Puley in Bowmanville after the death of Elizabeth's husband, William James. William Puley is probably the son of Philip Puley and his first wife, Martha Badcock. I would love to share information.

I am researching Philip Puley (Puly, Pooley, Pully) who was born about 1790 in Devon, England and who died in 1883 in Victoria County, Ontario. He was married to Christiane Oak/Oke (born about 1806 in Devon and died 1884 in Victoria County, Ontario). They came to Canada circa 1850 and settled in Victoria County. They had six children: Thomas, Grace, Walter, Elizabeth, Philip, Maria, Henry and John. I believe that Philip may have also had children from a previous marriage to Martha Badcock. I have records for three of these children: William, Ann and Mary. I believe that at least one of these children came to Canada with Philip and Christiane. I am looking to connect with other researchers who are interested in this family and am willing to share what I know about them.

Hi,

Henry Pooley was my great great grandfather. He had 7 children in England with his wife Johanna Penrose Morgan, the eldest, Henrietta Fanny born 1868 and the rest subsequently as detailed by Priscilla.
Although he and Johanna Penrose Morgan were married in Liverpool in 1867, we always understood they met in Chile; her family had emigrated there and he sailed back and forth.
How are you related?
I didn't know what became of his brother John after 1861; could you let me have any details?

He was in The Norfolks when he was 'executed' but does that mean he came from the Norfolk area like so many of us Pooley's or was he a londoner?

We took our fathers ashes to France and buried them in front
of the large cross at the cemetary in le Paradis, Pas-de-Calais. He died in Feb 1982 and his ashes where buried the same year.

my father was in the us navy from 1963-1967 as a fireman on a navy cruiser. we moved fgrom n.holloywood in 1969 to a small town in northern humboldt county called willow cvreek ca, my parents later divorced and my mother and brother and i stayed in willow creek and my father moved away and i only herard from him onece and that was in 1986 two days b-45 i got married. hes na,me is james edwin pooley born oct. 20-21 1943 he has 4 or more sisters who use to live in kanasa, lury kns, and graham kns. in 1965 or so. if you can help please do i dont beleave my father knows that hes son troy dean pooley passed away 13 yrs ago and i would like to know more about my family.

When I lived in High Wycombe a couple of years ago, a neighbour of mine, Ralph Godfrey was related to Pte Pooley.

He knew there was a book about him and I managed to get one. Talking to an old soldier in Flackwell Heath-John Cooper- I mentioned this story and he knew Albert Pooley and said that his ashes had only fairley recently been scatterd at Le Paradise by his mates at the High Wycombe British Legion or H/Wyc Dunkirk Veterans Assoc.

my gt gt grandfather was called samuel .r.pooley his father was called john pooley. samuel married eliza ann crane. they moved to poklington north yorkshire around 1881.he was a farm labourer and moved to yorkshire with his employer during the droughts. i have not been able to trace them any further back because i do not now my gt gt grandfathers mothers name. can you help me .

My Eleanor's parents were Thomas and Honor Rodda. Their first child, Thomas, was born in 1794. So, while we don't have a definite connection, we have not eliminated the possibility of Thomas and Stephen being brothers. You're sure right, all these similar names do make the search challenging.

Mary Rodda's parents are Stephen and Anne Williams Rodda, Mary was born 3 Mar 1793 and her brother Stephen was born 4 Mar 1798. I do not have any other information at this time, I wish I did. All these similar names are extremely confusing to figure out :). I feel I strike gold when I finally find a piece that works. I have just added this board to my home page so I will check it more often :)

Alice Ivey, both born 1825. John's father was William Pooley. I do believe there is a connect because the Pooley family in Crowan was not that large, but have yet to get back far enough to find the connection yet.
