I would like to hear from anyone from this line. My ggrandmother was Rebecca Poplin born about 1869 she married William M Hawk and they moved to Meigs county TN and had 13 children. Rebecca was a small lady with long black hair. She was half cherokee. Please write to my email cwlstrin@comcast.net. Much appreciation. Linda

Re: Rebecca Remy

I have recently had, what I believe is a break-thru for Jesse Poplin from Lawrence Co, (1851-1879). I believe his mother is Susannah Phebe Morley. She gave birth to Jesse abt 1851, when she was abt 15yrs old. (I do not know if she married his father or who his father is.) She married 2-3 years later to William Riley McDowell. On her marriage record her maiden name is Morley. They have abt 10 children. In 1857, She gives birth to a son, Laban McDowell. On his birth record, it lists her maiden name as Poplin. Jesse is listed on the 1860 & 1870 Census in Lawrence Co, Ky. as Jesse McDowell. In the 1870 Census, they are neighbors to Thadeus Ramey and his family. (Jesse is 19yr old.) He marries Rebecca Ramey(Remy)abt 1871 and uses the Poplin name. There are multiple mispellings of these names, which make it difficult to locate them. (Var. are: William, Riley, Becy, R.W., McDowell, McDowel, McDouls, and Susannah, Susanah, S. Laura, Phebe, Morley, Poplin, McDowell.) Hope this helps you. - Anita

I would greatly appreciate any Poplin information that you can give me. I have just connected with my late husband's half sister. Both were adopted out. The sister is the (illeg) dtr of Lois Alvin Poplin of Albemarle. He was the son of Wm Henry Poplin (1891-1976) and Margie Mae Furr (1896-1976) The GGParents were Henry J Poplin, Julia Ann Cooley, Maryland Cephus Furr, and Dixie Burleyson. Can you go back further? Thank you. This means a great deal to her.
Nancy
I have in my research that Annanias' parents were:
Armanius Poplin b. abt 1803 in Wilkes, North Carolina
d. 1850 Marion, Arkansas

Elizabeth Olive Hale b. 1810 North Carolina

She is shown living with their daughter Elizabeth Jane Poplin Weaver, wife of Wiliiam W. Weaver, in the 1860 Census in Arkansas.

I suspect that many of their burial sites have been moved and are not marked because of the building of the dam. I know that Annanias's daughter, Hannah Poplin Lantz, is buried with her husband Jesse in the Isabella Cemetery, in Isabella, Missouri.

Have you tried the Find A Grave website? I have been able to locate (and sometimes even get pictures and stories) from the site. It is a great resource.

The Turnbo manuscripts also have a couple of stories about Annanias and hunting. The can be read online.

I am the granddaughter of Tesley Lantz, son of Hannah Poplin, daughter of Annanias (Annunios?) Poplin and Elizabeth Ora Pointer. I am certain that Pointer is Elizabeth Ora's last time since my grandmother, while alive, said that grandpa's grandmother was a Pointer.

Do you live in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma? I remember George Long Poplin very well. We called him Uncle George and one of my fondest memories of him is when I was about twelve years old. I was baking a cake in the kitchen of our home and a man knocked on the back door asking for a handout. I went to get my mother because it frightened me a bit. She had a good laugh because it was Uncle George playing a trick on me. It was our first meeting that I remember but my mother recognized him immediately. I remember him being at my grandparent's home in Coweta, Oklahoma, as well.

I went to school with Tonie Poplin's children in Broken Arrow.

I received that name from another researcher years ago when I just started genealogy and didn't understand the importance of documentation. Therefore I didn't record the source, I'm sorry to say. I hope the name will at least serve as a clue that may lead to some answers on Jehu.

His name is not spelled Jehu. His name is John. You can also locate this family on 1850 census in Alexander, NC. I can't trace the family back any farther than that. I can't trace them after the 1860 census either.

Hi,

Have you looked into any of the Poplin's in North Carolina? It appears that the Poplins came in through Virginia in the 18th century. Start with George Poplin 1720 and you can find how migrations started. It appears there was a movement to Kentucky then Ohio and Texas.

Hope this helps. Would love to talk to you if you can email me at blackdogjoy@msn.com and put Poplin in the subject line.

Thanks, Robin

It appears that all the Poplins are related with most coming into the US through the Virginia Ports in the 17th century. There is a connection showing between Poplin & Popham but also there were many Poplin's in the Poplar area of London. Would love to connect to as many Poplin's as possible. You can email me at blackdogjoy@msn.com for more information. We have also set up a Poplin Family group on facebook if you use that system.

I am interested in knowing who Jesse Poplins' parents were. Do you happen to know? I live here in Albemarle, Stanly Co. (previously Montgomery Co) NC and this is where Thomas and Elizabeth Langley Lowder settled. Would like to know if you have any information on Jesse prior to marrying Caty. Will be willing to share anything you need if I have it.

I sent you an email at the address you gave and it came back saying you didn't have an account with yahoo.

Hi Susie,

On the 1930 U. S. Census for NC, Cabarrus County, Poplar Tent, ED #3, p. 6B, the following individuals are listed:
Robert M. Poplin, head, age 37, wd, age at first marriage 22, born NC, Laura J. Poplin, mother of head, age 68, wd, age at first marriage 18, born NC, children: Dillard G., 15, NC, Dempsey, 14, NC, Loyd, 12, NC, Jay H., 8, NC, Richard, 5, NC, Branson, 2 4/12, NC and a sister, Bertha, 29, NC.

In addition, Robert M. Poplin and family is listed on the 1920 U. S. Census for NC, Cabarrus County, Denese, ED #42, p. 9A.

I also found Dempsey Boger Poplin, b. 28 Aug 1915, d. 22 Sep 1996, Concord, Cabarrus County, NC. Last residence 28278 Charlotte, NC.

Ancestry.com database: California Death Index, 1940-1997 lists Richard Coolidge Poplin, b. 29 Oct 1924, NC, d. 6 May 1985, Los Angeles, mother's maiden name Harwell.

I would suggest contacting the CA Vital Statistics department and get a death certificate or try to find the funeral home who handled the transportation arrangements. Hope this is enough information to get you started. Good luck.

Doris
