Tracy

Fidele was my grandfather Thomas Profy's step father. His first wife I believe was Carlotta -- they had a son Dominic who I think was a minister. I believe he also had a daughter Enrichetta (?) who remained in Italy. Fidele remarried Marie Grimaldi (wife of John Grimaldi)-- their son was my grandfather Thomas. Marie (Fidele's second wife) had a son Joseph. Joseph's daughter and her son just got Italian citizenship due to the fact that Fidele and Marie were Italian citizens. There is a suspicion that Carlotta and Marie were sisters. Fidele, Joseph and I believe Dominic are listed on the Ellis Island directory. Thomas my grandfather may have come over with his mother Marie under the name Grimaldi since he is not listed as a Porforio. Thomas and I believe Dominic took the name Profy and Joseph kept Porforio. Joseph and my grandfather were shoemakers in Bristol. I associate Dominic with New York -- only met him once or twice. I suspect you are a descendent of Dominic. Joseph's family who just got citizenship have more information. I will get together with them soon. I visited Roccavivara twice. About ten years ago with my father (Vincent). We had a fantastic time, have lots of pictures, met relatives. My e-mail is vprofy@voicenet.com -- get in touch and I will get more information. Vince Profy (I live close to Bristol).

My great grandfather was a Porfirio from Roccavivara. He came here [with his brother I believe] following their father [my great great grandfather] Fidele Porfirio. Fidele settled in Bristol, PA and changed his name to Profy to assimilate. Not sure if he kept Fidele, but suspect he changed that as well. I believe that he remarried [first wife, my great great grandmother remained in Roccavivara] and had children with his second wife, but not positive.

I know this message is 8 years old, but I sincerely hope you get this an respond. Take care, Tracy

Hi there,

I'm a Porfirio as well, from Argentina, but living in Australia. I'd like to know some more information about my family, and you might know something. My grandfather came to Argentina when he was a child, his name was Michele Porfirio, son of Nicola Porfirio and Maria Leticia Benere. He was born in September 29th, 1882. My great-aunties said he was born in Macerata (Italy), but nobody is really sure about it. The weir thing in his story is that he arrived to Argentina without his parents, maybe with some sibling or parent's friend. I guess he might had many other siblings in Italy. Is you heard about these names before, please contact me. I'll appreciate any help.

cheers
Luciana Porfirio (lucianaporfirio@hotmail.com)

There is still family in Scholarie New York, here in Phoenix, and Los Angeles CA. I believe there are some in Fl and NY

In January I visited Trivento. My grandfather's stepfather was a Porfirio. He came from Roccovivaro -- a hill over from Trivento. My grandfather for a few years was in the Trivento seminary before he came to the US. I stayed with Porfirio relatives in Roccavivaro. I am just beginning to try to put together some family history.

Do you have any additional family information? VP
