My records indicate that Darby Ports was married three times, first to Lucinda Jane Paramer, second to Elizabeth Van Houten, and third to Amanda (?). In all, he fathered at least thirteen children. He died sometime between 1880 and 1882, probably at Teagarden in Polk Township, Marshall County, Indiana.

Do you know when he died or where he was buried?

Ockes, Jacob 1814-1885 - and the Ockes family

Dear Michael Ports,
I saw your message under the OCKES surname message board, under Jacob Ockes. My maiden name is Ockes. My dad is still alive and doesn't have/remember a lot of his family history. We moved to California in the early 60's from Chicago, where my father was born (10/5/32) and his father (Albert J. Ockes) possibly was born. My father's given name was Jacob, but he had it legally changed to be the same as his father's name. My grandfather was a reproduction artist(re-painting, touch up, repair of the masters)for museums in Chicago as well as owning a sign painting business and property. My father remembers many aunts,uncles, and cousins as a child, but has lost contact. Most of his family lived in and around Chicago, Illinois and Indiana. Family reunions were held in Tenn.
My grandfather died in 1957 or '58.
Ockes is an unusual family name, and I'd love to see any info you have. I just found a cousin of my fathers I am writing to and will be happy to share that with you.

My family decended from the Virginia, Maryland area, Most of them still live in that area. My fathers name was Oilver Norman Ports. We had an uncle trace as much as he could in the 40's-50's and traced this line back to George Ports Imigrated to Pennsylvania early 1800's. Had sons Jacob,David, Henry,George Jr. All born in York Co, but immagerated to the Baltimore area. I know that there is a cemetry in Greenwood Va., I also know that it looks like a branch went off to Oklahoma, Texas,Iowa. If this information has any interest or sounds like they may be part of this branch of the Port's I have records that appear to be almost complete from George to parts of my fathers family kids

Hello to you too! Everyone with the name Ports is related. And you are right there are not too many of us with the name. Although there are many de3scendants with other surnames scattered across the country.

WOuld love to tie you into the correct branch of the family tree. But, need to know a few more facts first. Who is the earliest known Ports ancestor? Need name and date and place of birth. If you do not know the exact birthdate, estimate the year. If you do not know the street addres, give city, county, or state. Ports family in Union County, Ohio

Am sure that our lines are connected. But, the connection is rather far in the past. My Union County, Ohio research does not as yet connect to your more recent information.

William A. Ports was born February 23, 1803 in Pennsylvania, possibly Bedford County. He married Elizabeth Scott by license in Jefferson County, Ohio on December 26, 1832. By 1840, he had moved his family to Delaware County, Ohio. Prior to the Civil War, he finally settled near Richwood in Union County. I have very little information on Elizabeth Scott. Do not know her parents. She was born in Maryland August 18, 1815. She died August 27, 1892, aged 77 years and 9 days. She was buried next to her husband in the Claiborne Cemetery. William died December 31, 1860.

Their children were: Mary Ann, Zippora, John S., Absalom, William R., Elizabeth Catherine, and Martha Rosanna.

I have more information on each of these children. Also, I have more information on William A. Ports' parents, grand parents, and great grand parents.

Dear Michael-My grandfather was John J. Ports born in MAryland on March 1890 to William alfred and Maggie Olivia Driver.He had brothers and sisters names Alfrd,William,Sarah,Edward.Violet.Laura,PearlFlossie, Emie, Samuel. He married Gertrude Mae Hicks and they had 2 sons. John Henry Ports of English COunsel and William Alford Ports (my dad) I have a death certifiacate for William A. Ports of Charleston Ave who died April 19,1936
his DOBwas Aug.9.1864. and he is buried in Mt Olivet Cemetry. Maggie Oliva Driver his wife is also buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetry and her date of death was July 22,34. I am interested in any information I can get as my grandfather John left in l934 a few months before I was born and was only legal declared dead in June of 1954. I would like to know where he ended up.I also know that Maggie's mother was a Garth from Germany. If you can help me please do as my dad died at age 42 wondering about his father. George Scott Ports

I believe that you are searching for George Scott Ports, born April 1848 in Washington County, Maryland. He was the son of David and Susan (Miller) Ports of Boonesboror, Maryland. After the Civil War, David moved his family to Carroll County, Illinois where his parents and siblings had migrated many years earlier.

George Scott Ports married Emily Umphrey (1847-1898). Sometime after her death, he moved to Edmund, Oklahoma. There, he married Emma Martha Fry (1871-1926).

George Scott Ports died in 1919 and was buried at Grace lawn Cemetery in Edmund. His children were:

1. Henrietta, born 1876.

2. Frederick, born 1886.

3. Daisy, born 1903.

4. Delphia, born 1905.

5. Theodore Roosevelt, born 1909.

I have more information on this family and can trace his direct Ports line back another four generations. If you are interested, I am happy to share my research with you.

I do not know much about the later years. But, I do know a great deal about the earlier generations.

That John Jacob Ports was the oldest (I think, as I am not looking at my notes) son of William Alfred Ports and his wife Margaret Driver. I do not know the names of her parents.

But, I do know the names of William Alfred Ports' parents. I can trace his lineage back five more generations. if you are interested, I am happy to share the information that I have with you.
