I am related to a Myrtle Eldora Potts (1884-1963) and I believe her father is Franklin M. Potts but he either died or disappeared early on in her life so I have almost no information on him. Myrtle's mother was Caroline "Carrie" P. Pollock (1865-?). Any help on Franklin Potts and his ancestors would be very much appreciated, if he is actually connected to this lineage of Potts.

Thanks!

It could be a good omen! Lets keep our fingers crossed. If I update my tree, I think Ancestry.com will send you an update, which would be listed on your home page. That is if you have a Potts listed that relates to one of the Potts I list on my tree.

Can you get to a city or town hall, or even look it up via the internet where your relatives were born to check out birth certificates. That might give you something to start with. Keep me posted!
Enjoy the weekend!

Karen

Sounds confusing to me. I have found information by searching on Ancestry.com with the name Potts, and through Google. It seems that most Potts settled in PA, but the relatives I am looking for settled in Mass. If I were you, I would search under both surnames and see what can be found.

You are welcomed to view my tree at Davidson/Gauthier/White/Johnson on Ancestry.com to see the info that I have on Potts. Good Luck!

Biological name is Potts, adopted name is Kroen, and I was told PLAINLY that "they are Black German", but the Grandfather and his twin brother were given up by their Potts' parents to neighbors named Kroen. I have no idea which surname Granny was researching. She kept repeating the "Black German" phrase, and that the two families were in a "group" of immigrants, in Indiana (maybe) and I presumed Germans. Never explained the "phrase". Where do I start?
Unfortunately, I have no info on Arthur other than a census with him, Luna and Jesse listed as Jesse Potts. After that , Jesse is adopted by Luna's second husband James H. Belcher. I do know Luna was b,1882-1954 so that would put the age range right. Was your Arthur ever recorded in Texas?
This would be my great grandfather so I would appriciate aany infor you have :)

When I was a young girl my grandfather Sidney Griffin Jr. from Estill Co. KY told me he had a cousin they called Fanjo and that when she was a young girl her family moved to Oklahoma. He stated he thought it was in the early 1900s. As he was getting older he stated he couldn't remember if Potts or Warren was her maiden name but one was her maiden and one was her married name. I also remember the name Grant but am unsure if it was her husband's name or her father's. Any help would be wonderful!!!! She has been a family mystery for years!

Thanks! I've read/downloaded/cited those books you refer to. From my research, though, I've found many errors/discrepancies and I figured it was because they were written over 100 years ago an much has been discovered since then. I'm still compiling my data, but have over 10,000 names in my file, with (I estimate) about 95% verified. I'd love to share information with you as we all know facts and data will change until the end of time, and I love the challenge of finding my errors!!!

My e-mail is Claudiasul@aol.com
Claudia, I don't seem to be able to reply to you directly from the information on the message board but I am certain there are many who are interested in their POTTS genealogy. My main sources of information are listed below. To contact me: kenhogue@hughes.net.

My POTTS information comes from internet sources except for my immediate relations living in Illinois. I did a book search on Google and was able to find some POTTS information in that manner and even download a pdf version of a book on the family. My sources of information going back to Thomas POTTS b. 1590 in Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, Wales are:

Book sources: "The Potts Family in Great Britain and America" written and published by Thomas Maxwell Potts and

"Jonathan Potts 1714-1785 His Ancesters and Descendants" written and published by Joseph J. Reichel.

Web sources: The Potts Surname Website. The URL is www.pottsinfo.com, and

GENUKI (UK and Ireland Genealogy). The URL is www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/MGY/ .

The book sources are very interesting! I hope everyone finds this information useful.

Just jumping in here...I am descended from David (1670-1730) & Alice (Croasdale) Potts. I would be interested in anything you have regarding the ancestry in Wales, and/or the descendants of Thomas Pott (1631-1682) and his wife Elizabeth after her arrival in Pennsylvania. I will be happy to share any information I have, as well. Thanx! Claudia

Linda, we appear to be cousins as we both are related to the POTTS families in and around Bond and Clinton Counties in Illinois who lived in and around Irishtown Township, especially the towns of Keysport and Carlyle. This line of POTTS goes back to Wales and the town of Llandloes in Montgomery County. I will be happy to share information with you. Let me know the information you need.

This is what I have as ancestors of Jonas Potts (1662-1754). He was the son of Thomas Potts, (1632-abt 1680 Wales), married to Elizabeth Basset (1636 Wales - 1707 PA). This Jonas was the brother to David Potts (1670 Wales-1730 PA) who was my ancestor. I have four more pages of descendants, (this page only shows two of the three children of Jonas' marriage to his second wife, Mary Thomaston) but it shows the ancestors of Jonathan Potts (1744-1831) at his marriage to Elizabeth English (1814). This information has not been verified by me and is only a sketch at this time. It is a work in progress as I have delegated most of my time to David. Feel free to contact me if this is not sufficient.
Claudia - claudiasul@aol.com

1 Jonas Potts 1662 - 1754
.. +Mary (Thomaston) 1682 -
........ 2 Jonathan Potts 1714 - 1785
............ +Naomi "Emey" Hall 1718 -
................... 3 John Potts 1739 -
....................... +Rebecca Snodgrass
............................. 4 John Potts
............................. 4 Joseph Potts 1763 -
............................. 4 Hannah Potts 1765 -
............................. 4 Sarah Potts 1777 -
................... 3 Nathan Potts
................... 3 Amos Potts 1743 - 1780
....................... +Hannah
............................. 4 John Potts
................... 3 Sarah Potts 1745 - 1829
....................... +William Rowland 1735 - 1776
............................. 4 Elizabeth Rowland 1763 -
............................. 4 Robert Rowland 1764 - 1813
............................. 4 John Rowland 1766 - 1843
............................. 4 George Rowland 1767 - 1817
............................. 4 Thomas Rowland 1768 -
............................. 4 William Rowland 1770 -
............................. 4 Amey Rowland 1772 -
................................. +John McFerran
............................. 4 Sarah Rowland 1774 -
................... 3 George Potts 1748 -
................... 3 David Potts 1751 - 1823
....................... +Elizabeth Looney 1753 -
............................. 4 Jeremiah Potts 1768 - 1856
............................. 4 Amy Potts 1771 -
............................. 4 Margaret Potts 1774 -
............................. 4 Jonathan"Col" Potts 1775 - 1867
................................. +Bathsheba Ballard
............................. 4 John Potts 1782 - 1847
............................. 4 Rebecca Potts 1783 -
............................. 4 David Potts 1784 - 1830
................................. +Mary Thompson
............................. 4 Mary Potts 1784 -
............................. 4 Isaiah Potts 1786 -
................................. +Sarah Burris
............................. 4 Catherine Potts 1788 -
................... *2nd Wife of David Potts:
....................... +Martha Tines-Short, Widow
............................. 4 Joel Potts 1811 - 1898
................................. +Sarah Ann Blizzard 1818 - 1848
............................. *2nd Wife of Joel Potts:
................................. +Mary Ann Clerk 1815 - 1878
............................. *3rd Wife of Joel Potts:
................................. +Ruth S.
I am very interested in finding information about a Anna M., (Mae?)Potts, who I belive first lived in Philadelphia and then moved to Williamsport, Pa. She was unmarried, delivered twin girls in 1925 and then Anna died in 1926. Anna's daughters are 86 years old now and the one daughter and I are VERY good friends, I love her as much as I do my own mother and she has two beautiful daughters that I am very close to. Any information about the family would really bring me to tears. It is very important to the family and to myself. Eighty six years is a very long time to find out information on your maternal family, especially your mother.

Does ANYBODY have the real scoop on this man ??? I´m not totally satisfied/convinced with my findings on diverse trees. It is said that he is the son of a Jonas Potts and they stem from Loudoun, VA. Were they Quakers ? Where is the documentation for this? This Samuel ends up in Monroe, OH. and many of his first children were born in VA. Any light that can be shed on this matter would be more than appreciated.

Can you tell me how you think you connect? I can send the tree chart I have, but it will have to be by snail mail, so e-mail me your address and I'll send it.

becky
