Hello, I was just chatting with my mother asking about french-canadian relatives. She said we are Poupards and sent me a family tree on the Lafleur/ Boisselle side and sure enough the couple you mention are on it.
The man you ask about was born in 1698 per my file. My relatives live in Mass mostly and I am in PA.

No, but I wonder if the Gilbert you are referring to is his son? My great grandmother's name was Harriet Poupard. She was born in 1878 & her parents were Gilbert Poupard & Elisabeth Barron. I think her father, Gilbert, was born around 1842 & died in 1895. Maybe your Gilbert was her brother?

Hope to hear from you,
Janice

I don't have anything to add as far as his son Charles goes but will start a search to see what I can dig up.

Hi,

It is always nice to meet a new cousin. In case you don't know, the Poupards were among the first families in Monroe. They were members of the first church - St. Antoine Catholic Church. There are 2 monuments on S. Custar in Frenchtown to commemorate the place where the church and cemetery once stood. If you are interested in hearing the story, I would be happy to tell you or post it here for anyone else who is interested.

My Mother was Margaret E. Poupard Mossburg. She was born in 1920 and died in 2003. She is buried in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park on the same gravesite as my father, Ambrose W. Mossburg (they were both cremated). Her parents were Albert Gilbert Poupard, born in July, 1894. We have his baptismal records from St. Joseph Catholic Church on N. Erie St. in Toledo, Oh. He died in April of 1958 in Toledo, OH. He is buried in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. His wife, my grandmother was Elsie Lucetta Black. She was born in March 2,1886 in Crawford County, OH and died February 14, 1964 in Toledo, OH. She is buried in Willow Cemetery in Oregon, OH.

If anyone would like more information, just contact me through the list. I have much more, relating to the surnames below.

I would love to know what you might have in your Mother's line. We usually wind up giving a lot of info and getting little on our line. Do you go back to Rene Poupart dit La Fleur? We do and have a thorny brick wall concerning Charles Poupart(d) born in NY in 1698. If anyone has definitive proof of his mother, whom we believe to have been Marie Perrine, not Marie Gendron as is cited in many sources, we would love to see it. I look forward to getting a lot of responses. Thanks for your post.

We may not be related, but I'll try to remember what my mother told us. A French Poupard was valued as an engineer. He was hired by British government as an engineer and moved to England. The condition was that his sons be educated at the naval academy. My great-grandfather John Poupard was an engineer and he came to South Carolina shortly after the Civil War and became employed as an engineer with a power company installing power plants along the South Carolina coast around Beaufort County South Carolina. He married a Fennell and their daughter May Edith Poupard married a Noll in Chattanooga, Tennesssee. Their daughter Edith Louise Noll Lamb was my mother. I think John Poupard may have also had a brother who came with him to South Carolina but I'm not sure.

Hi Charlotte
Many thanks for the info. We had some limited information but you have added some dates and children of Andre/Marie.

I am the ninth generation of the Poupards although I have married a Rackham and now live in Kent.

My ancestry is also via Abraham Poupard(1778-1852)to Charles Poupard (1815 -1900), Charles George Poupard ( 1840 - 1919), Charles Edwin Wallace Poupard (1864-1949 approx) and my father Leonard Poupard (1910-1982) and then me Diana Poupard. I was an only child unlike my ancestors!
Hope this is of interest.

Diana

He is descended through their son Abraham, then William, then Thomas James, then Thomas Robert. The tree goes back 2 more generations to Andre & Susanne and Andre & Marie. http://www.hampshireclarktree.com/indiI579.html.

Regards
Charlotte

Hello,

It is always good to hear from new cousins. It would appear we are related, though not directly. Have you done any Monroe County, MI research? There is quite a bit of information available on the Suzors, some on the Yaxs and Poupard, Coulay and others. Did you know of their connection to St. Antoine Church and Cemetery and later St. Mary's? Did you know who your Immigrant Yax ancestor was? His name was Michael Yax (Jacks) and he was the first German settler on the Detroit River. Maybe I can fill in some of the blanks. My Mom was a Poupard. I would be happy to exchange info. Let me know.

Lucy Mossburg Bellville
Toledo, OH

Hi. I've completed a big family tree of the Poupard's in London traced back to their source - Andre Poupard and Marie Thomas, married in London 1701. It was just recently completed for family members on my late uncle's side. It's all on my personal family tree website www.hampshireclarktree.com.
