I am looking for an Earl Piedlow who was married to a woman with a nickname of "Pel" or "Pal". They lived in Chicago, I think Earl worked for the railroad. This would have been in the 1950s. I think one of their children had polio, but I am not certain of that. It is also very possible they either owned or managed a small grocery store in the neightborhood for a while. This would be near Ashland and Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. They were very old friends of my parents and I would like to connect with them if they or one of them are possibly still living especially "Pal" Piedlow.

Later they moved to Ghent, Minn., where Agnes and the younger children were born. In 1908, they migrated to St. Hippolyte, Saskatchewan."

PRAIRIE, Anthony Y. - NY>NC>VA - Anyone Know This Name?

Seeking information about the descendants of Anthony Y. Prairie. Anthony was born in New York c. Mar 1846.

Anthony was a Civil War veteran, serving as a private in Company B, 31st New York Calvary from 1862-1864. This service probably led to his meeting his North Carolina wife.

Anthony married Carrie Eurena Pollard c. 1873. They had nine children, three of which died in infancy. The other children were:

1. Fannie K. (or B.) Prairie
2. Nellie E. Prairie
3. Charles F. Prairie
4. Clyde Ernest Prairie, m. Catherine Virginia Unknown
5. Annie S. Prairie
6. Bessie G. Prairie

I do not know what became of any of Anthony's and Carrie's children. However, only 5 of them were alive as of the 1900 federal census and only 4 of them were alive as of the 1910 federal census. Clyde and his wife both may have died sometime between 1918-1920. Clyde and Catherine had three known children: Doris, Phillip, and Clyde Jr.

All of Anthony's and Carrie's children were born in North Carolina (probably Leaksville, Rockingham County). The family moved to Richmond, Virginia sometime between 1890-1900.

Both Anthony and Carrie were alive as of the 1920 federal census, so they probably died between 1920-1930 in Richmond.

If anyone has any information about this family, please contact me by replying on this message board, or by clicking on my user name above. Thanks!

Mrs. Prairie was suing the company for damages resulting from the death of her husband, who while employed as a lineman by the company, fell from a pole.

This query concerns one Joseph P. Prairie, who appears in US censuses in North Carolina in 1860, 1870 and 1880.

Because this site does not support typed tables, making entries difficult to read, there is attached a jpg file with the information on Joseph.

In 1860, his place of birth was given as Lower Canada and his age as 27 (born 1832-33). In 1870, he is shown as 36 (b 1833-34), and in 1880 as 45 (b 1834-35).

In 1860 he was shown as living with a professor at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. That professor, his wife and his daughter (age 18) were shown as born in Mass.

Looking for information which might relate to this person.

Keith, received the family charts. The only family surname that would connect would be the Beauregard. Prairie was shortened from LaPrairie which started out from Piedalue. I found all mine started out as Piedalue. I have a suggestion, from what I have learned, most of the Piedalue lines are in the Chambly,Laprairie areas around 1780. I found my lines there and in St. Joseph and St. Mathais parishs. I found a great site, but its only for earlier search 1640s-1799, PRDH, also check the Loiselle Index of Marriages. My surnames connecting to the Prairies are; LAPORTE,BESSETTE,BEAUREGARD,LAGIROFLEE, LEBER,LABEL,GAYE,FONTENEAU,PATENADUE,BOURASSA,MOQUIN AND CALCAGNO. Your luckier then most of us, your located in Canada aren't you? OF COURSE, it could be your line comes to Canada later. My line starts around 1640. Good Luck and I hope I was of some help.
Eva, what do you need? I have a lot of Prairie and family info going back to 1640's in Belgium, France, Canada etc. This has taken me over 20 years to gather and I have sources to quote plus parrish records. I can make up a family chart for Theodore back if you'd like(no cost except for postage) this is 10 pages. Send me your mailing address if interested.

Hi Keith, my prairies start with Frank b. abt. 1836 in Canada(not sure where). 1870 census Shrewsbury,Worcester Mass. all following ch. born in Mass. starting around 1857 Ulrick,Emma,Alfons,Theradore,Helen,Carrine and Wilfred.Frank listed also in 1880 and as far as I can figure stays in Mass.around that county until 1900's when I loose track. Trying to find out where in Canada he came from. I decend from Ulrick who moved to Ohio since he was on the 1880 census there. As you say I am taking a shot. Pamela

Hi Pamela, I always follow the long shots. My maternal grangmother was a Prairie from the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Pigeon Hill near St. Armand. I can only go back three generations there and then I'm into the proverbial brick wall. Would be interested to know if your line came up to Vermont perhaps. Most of my other ancestors, Ellsworth, Tittemore, Richard, Eccles, Vincent did and were mostly Vt and NY. On my Prairie side I have gm, Edna Ellen, ggf, Charles Alexander and gggf John Abraham. I can document these from the various Canadian census. Would appreciate any info if these ring a bell. All the best and thanks, Keith.
