I am seeking information for my Gt Grandfather Arthur Richard PRATT, he lived in Battersea with his wife Mercy (nee BROCKINGTON)and children Arthur Rufus and Thomas Sydney at Dashwood Road in 1914. I have quite a bit of info for his life prior to this date but have been unable to locate any further details afterwards (eg Death, Electoral Rolls etc). Mercy remarried in 1930 to Ernest George SILVESTER in Lambeth Registry office and was listed on the certificate as a widow, she died in 1964 when living in Brooklands Road, Battersea. Any information or advice would be gratefully recieved.

I am looking for Henry F Pratt and Fannie A Pratt's (Smith) final resting place. I tracked them to Pomona, San Bernardino, California and found they voted in CA. Last date 1920.

They farmed fruit I believe, son was Arthur, Married to Lola Gust. They were citrus farmers. I believe they took over Arthur's Dad's Orange Farm. Henry Pratt's daughter, Cora married to Charles Nixon of Greeley, CO. Fannie was their step-mother. Fannie A Pratt was my great great grandmother.
Have no idea who Henry's parents are. He was born in Indiana.
Possibly they returned to Michigan or Colorado.
Would appreciate any help with this. No death's on ancestry.
Thanks in advance, Sharon

It's approximately 106 English miles from Aldridge to, say, Leeds in Yorkshire so it's not that far and not inconceivable that at some point a move was made.

According to the Free BMD website there is a marriage of a John Pratt to Jane Robinson in West Bromwich registered in the September quarter of 1857, Vol 6b page 770. West Bromwich, at that time, was in the Staffordshire registration district. Given they married some 8 years before Henry was born I would suspect there were older siblings. It might be worth trying to find them in the 1861 Census.

Happy hunting
Re: Thomas Pratt born bet 1630 and 1636 in Framingham, MA

This is a case where some basic research can help to clear things up.

The subject of this thread is "Thomas Pratt born bet 1630 and 1636 in Framingham, MA." That is not possible, because Framingham was begun as a plantation, established from common lands 13-Oct-1675. It was incorporated as a town 25-Jun-1700. The standard reference for information of this type is "Historical Data Relating to Counties, Cities and Towns in Massachusetts," published in five editions between 1920 and 1997. The first edition, edited by Robert T. Swan and Henry Ernest Woods (Boston: Wright & Potter, 1920) is in the public domain and can be found at sites such as the Internet Archive Text Archive and Google Books.

As for his death in Sherborn (then spelled "Sherborne") in 1692, I find no record of his death, nor any extant gravestone for him, in that town [See Thomas Williams Baldwin, Editor, "Vital Records of Sherborn Massachusetts, to the Year 1850" (Boston: Stanhope Press, 1911), which is also in the public domain and available online.

The "Matthew Pratt" referred to in World Connect is probably Macuth (the spelling he used in his signature) Pratt of Weymouth, whose son Thomas died 19-Apr-1676 between Sudbury and Marlborough. He did not marry Susanna Gleason [George Walter Chamberlain, "History of Weymouth Massachusetts," Volume 4 (Boston: Weymouth Historical Society, 1923), p. 501.

One reasonable resource is to use Torrey's "New England Marriages Prior to 1700" to find what Torrey recorded about this marriage and the works that he consulted at NEHGS. Torrey could not determine Susanna's surname. For references Torrey cited:

1) James Savage, "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Showing Three Generations of Those Who Came Before May, 1692, on the Basis of Farmer's Register," 4 Volumes (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1860-1862). Note that Savage exhibited a fair amount of confusion about some of the early Pratts.

2) William Barry, "A History of Framingham, Massachusetts, Including the Plantation, From 1640 to the Present Time, with an Appendix" (Boston: James Munroe and Company, 1847), pp. 363, 673 (the latter is an error as there is no p. 673).

3) A query by "J. F. P." in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, 38 (1884):346.

Of those, the one of most interest is Barry. It is also in the public domain and available online. Barry says that Thomas was early at Watertown, but does not supply a surname for Susanna. Henry Bond's "Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Families of Watertown, Massachusetts, Including Waltham and Weston, to Which Is Appended the Early History of the Town," 2 Volumes (Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1855), p. 407, however, says only of Thomas "of Wat. (so said), adm. freeman, 1652."

Barry also indicated that administration on Thomas' estate was granted to Susanna in 1692. I do not know which town he was shown as a resident of in the probate because the firdt two volumes of the Middlesex probate index are not online.

In short, this is a case where there is much misinformation, but relatively little that is supported by contemporary records.

Dale H. Cook, Member, NEHGS and MA Society of Mayflower Descendants;
Plymouth Co.

Renaldo P. Pratt came to River Falls Township before 1860. Their 80 acre farm was located in the Southwest corner of section 5, River Falls Township. It still was under Julia's name in 1895. Renaldo died on January 22, 1883. Here is what it had to say about it in the local newspaper:
Mr Pratt was one of the first to located in the St. Croix Valley and settled on the South fork of the Kinnikinnic River until his death. He was a unobtrusive farmer who rejoice more in the good crops than the empty applause of a fickle worked. He leaves a wife and one son 13 years old.
There was a larger Pratt family that came to River Falls that early, all related to Samuel Pratt and Persis Hayden Pratt. I am not sure how they are related to Renaldo, but I would suspect they are. I have some information on the Dvorak family as well. If you are still out there I can give you some more information.

I'm fairly confident that I am a descendant of Ephriam Pratt -- I'm from the Stillman T. Pratts and I beleve my great great great grandfather was Abel. HIS father was Ephriam and was HIS father... My great grandmother, Helen Gertrude Pratt married Matthew T. Gedge. HER mother was Helen Elizabeth Ross who married Stillman T. Pratt. This Stillman's parents were Stillman T. Pratt and Nancy Gates. This Stillman's dad was named Abel Pratt (b 1783, d. 1853) married to Betsy Brewer.

I am desperate to find out what happened to

Harry born March 1899 and
Rebecca Mary born May 1897

parents were John (an "actor" stage name Nelldon) and Lizzie Norris. Parents separated in 1902 and John Pratt was imprisoned for cruelty and neglect - the children were placed in the care of Quarrier's orphanage in 1910 when their mother felt she could no longer cope. Miraculously she managed to travel to Australia shortly after signing them over and they languished for 2 years in the orphanage before being sent to Sydney to be reunited with her.

Whether they went under the name of Pratt or Norris I do not know and what became of them is a mystery.

Can anyone make a connection?

The arrived on the Zealandia in June 1910. I have tried every which way to find them with no luck at all. Any help would be gratefully received.

thanks and regards
Fiona

Re: Lydia L. Pratt/William P. Marsh-NY or Battle Creek, MI

William P. Marsh and Lydia L. Pratt were my greatgrandparents. Their son, Clayton C. Marsh, Sr., was my grandfather, and his son Clayton C. Marsh, Jr., was my father. I, too, am looking for information on William and Lydia. I know that Lydia was related to Parley and Orson Pratt leaders of the LDS Church. I believe she was Orson's daughter, niece, or granddaughter. Also, through her, I believe that I am a distant cousin to Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman, who are also distant cousins. The date of my grandfather's birth is listed wrong in both the John Marsh of Hartford book and in your email. He was born on May 31, 1883, not May 13th, which was a typographical error made in the printing of the book. Also, Lydia died in 1918 and is buried in Sacramento, CA. William died in Indianapolis, IN in 1943 and is buried there.

Sincerely,

Clayton R. Marsh (11)

Hi Jane,

I am stymied with my Pratt Line. This is the information that I am comfortable with:

My grandfather was Jefferson Thomas Pratt from Arkansas
His Father was Robert Lee Pratt born in Tennessee but died in Arkansas and married to California Jo Dacus.
His father was Joseph Pratt born in Georgia, not sure if he died in Tennessee, Arkansas or Georgia.
My assumption is that his father was Henry G. Pratt.

My grandmother married to Jefferson Pratt mentioned that the Pratt's came from the north, however I have been reading about a Thomas Pratt coming to Georgia in the 1700s from England.

Any information you can give me would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Robyn Dennen
tarotgypsy@hotmail.com

Does anyone know a US Army 2nd Lt. Paul A. Pratt WWI who would be writing from Burssels to a CH Dean in Lincoln Nebr in 1919? Is this a friendship or a relative connection? I found a grave of Paul Pratt 1900-1918 in Nebr. but this postcard was postmarked Jun 1919 so this is either a different Paul Pratt or the card was postmarked posthumously?

Hi Fiona

Edward Masson Pratt was my grandpa. He was actually my great uncle. He married my great aunt (Mary)Ethel Willet in 1932 (or around then). They had no children of their own but raised my mother and my aunt (Marguerite and Jennifer McEwan)who were orphaned children of Ethel's sister Marguerite. Edward lived in Toronto all his life until they retired to a town north of Toronto- Aurora ON. He died there in 1993 when he was 92. Because he raised my mother, my sisters and I always viewed him as our grandpa and my oldest child is named after him. I remember hearing about Jessie and Rose. He talked so fondly of Scotland but we think he had a hard life there. I would love to know more about him- I loved him dearly.

Juli Wells (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)

I have an Ephriam Pratt born 1704 in Sudbury, Middlesex, MA.
His father was also named Ephriam Pratt. This is not my Pratt line, but in my data base.

It would be interesting to see the photo.
Ernest Easter Pratt

Born around 1881 Ernest Easter Pratt is my grandfather. Married Vera Pennock and had a son and daughter. We believe he lived in Kansas as a child and moved west to Washington State where he settled. Any information you might have would be helpful. Ernest had mentioned living in Kansas but said the family records were lost during a fire at a county seat. Don't know which county.
