Hi I belong to the Preen family history group, they meet in Shropshire every year. You can find a web site by going on line and entering Preen and you will be able to find the history of the preen family, maybe this may help you.

Kathleen.

Thanks for your reply. My grandfather was Arthur William Preen & Thomas Abraham was his eldest brother. Their father John William Preen (son of Thomas & Hannah Preen) died in 1885 & the children got split up. Hence the myth about emigration. The other siblings where Hannah, John & Maurice & their mother was Margaret(her father was Abraham Sweeney). The Preens have a large family tree & one of their descendants has a website with them all on dating back several centuries, it's www.preenfamily.org & the it's researched by Sue Laflin I'm sure she would be pleased to update the information about your grandfather if you wanted to contact her. If you want any further info please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thomas Abraham Preen was my late grandfather he had two sons Thomas Alexander and my father Maurice born 1910 in Sheffield. My grandfather did not emigrate but moved south and lived for a while in Folkestone where he owned a garage .He died in Croydon 1939.My late father never mentioned any other relatives ,so its possible they lost touch hence the assumption of emigration.

My great grandfather was John William Preen (born 1853 Ludlow)whose mother's maiden name was Hannah Wall, so there may be a connection there. Hi son, my grandfather, was Arthur William Preen, he had a 3 brothers John, Thomas & Maurice and one sister Hannah. I have quite a bit of info on other Preen's from a cousin who published a book on the Preen's from the area of Shropshire/Denbighshire. If you send me more names I might be able to trace them. Who did your John marry? Also try looking for Prighn as it was often spelt this way.
Lynda Nicholls

Perrine, Preen, Perine? ?

I am looking for information on a WWII war buddy of my Father's. My fther passed away in 1996. He often talked about a buddy name Ray Perine. I don't know the proper spelling of the last name, could be Perrine, or Preen. Dad alway said that Ray was from Cintrilla, West Virginia. I couldn't find a Cintrilla, but I did find a Cinderella, West Virginia. I sure don't have much to go on. I also know that Ray was born around 1915, and service with my Dad in the Army Air Corps. in Karachi, India in 1942. They were in the 25th Fighter Squadron. Sure could use a little help here.

Don J.

Mary Preen/George Hayward

My great great grandmother was Mary Preen and my great grandmother was Helen Hayward (1853-1918) Does anyone have info on them? Here is what I know:
Helen was the son of George Hayward (1826-1906) and Mary Preen. George was born in Leeds, England, November 5, 1825. In Staffordshire, in 1850, he married Mary Preen at Bushberry Church, near Wolverhampton. In the spring of 1854 the family came from Yorkshire County, England to Quebec and then to Toronto and in 1861 settled in St. Louis, Missouri. Shortly afterward he served in the Civil War in the 33rd Regiment of Missouri volunteers for six months and then was sent home to die. After the war they moved to Wisconsin, locating at Hudson, on Lake St. Croix. A little later they moved to Mount Pleasant, IA. and then in 1873 to Red Oak, IA. where the family lived until 1882, when they moved to Spirit Lake. With his son, William, he bought the Minne Waukon Hotel and until the death of his wife, Mary, he lived there. After Mary’s death, George lived with his daughter Helen at Beatrice, NE. He died March 12th, 1906 in Beatrice, NE. at the age of 80. Mary was born at Church Stretton, Shropshire, England on May 24th, 1819.

Thanks Lolly
