Anybody have any skeletons? Trying to trace my wife's father, born 2 Sept. However, he changed his year of birth many times on various documents. Always Sep2, but could be anywhere from 1902 thru 1911.
Supposedly from Durham although he was known to have lived in Ilkley, Yorkshire. His death certificate states he was born in Kidderminster, Worcs so maybe a military birth.
Died in Oxford 1969 and have the certificate.
Been looking over 10 years for this very elusive guy.
Thanks

Anastasia PRENDERGAST marriage to John Arthur SMITH

Information that I was given many years ago about my maternal grandmother Anastasia PRENDERGAST as being born in Robinstown in 1884 has turned out to be incorrect as will be all the subsequent information regarding Meades, Hartes etc.. As a result of information received from recently published marriage indexes for Ireland it has been established that Anastasia was married in Limerick, Ireland at the age of 23 on Dec 26, 1906, to my grandfather John Arthur SMITH, bn 1884 in Fulham, London. The marriage certificate shows that her father John PRENDERGAST was a slater, and that John SMITH was a soldier, based at Clogheen near Cork

Prendergast family from Providence

I am looking for information about my father's side of the family. I have never met any of my Prendergast relatives and would love to know something about them. My father was James Francis Prendergast Jr born in Providence in 1906. He had four siblings who died before my father was born. My grandfather was James Francis Prendergast, born apr.1866 in Pennsylvania and my grandmother was Mary Evangeline Whalan, born apr.1867 in Connecticut.I don't know if my grandparents had siblings.I do know there were other Prendergasts in the area in 1910. There is a possibility that my grandfather was related to the Prendergast family of Jamestown, New York. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Elward2,
With dates of birth in the late 1860's or later, you may have luck finding records in Ireland through "The General Register Office" (GRO) where birth, death, marriage records can be purchased. Check out their website at http://www.groireland.ie/
It is well worth the fee if you can send them any other details to rule out other "Thomas" and "James" Prendergast's.
If you can get details from any of your relatives to be able to focus on a particular county in Ireland, there are "Family Heritage Centres" in most counties that can research your family line for a fee. (See a list of Centres at http://www.irishmidlandsancestry.com/content/links/famhistce...)
Don't forget to check "Griffith's Valuation" to see where some of the many Thomas and James Prendergasts show up. County Mayo is still a good bet. (See http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php for a search website.)
DNA testing and then joining a Prendergast "project group" is probably your best bet when you are looking for a needle in a haystack. (See https://www.familytreedna.com/ for options.)
Good luck and stay in touch if more questions come up.

Hello,
Mary Ann(also Marion) Pendergast/Prendergast arrived in New York July 1890. She had with her a realtive, Ada Radcliffe age 6. She stayed in NY, and later married Robert McLoughlin. He was born in England, but of Irish parents. Marion and Robert married in 1892 Mount Vernon, Westchester County, New York. On the passenger list, it lloks like it might say that Marion is from Oldham, while Ada is from Liverpool? On the 1900 Census of NY, Marion's birthday is listed as April 1870. Almost no info is listed on her marriage certificate.
If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know.
Thank you,
Cathy

Helllo Suzanne,

Thanks for the message, I tend to dip in and out and then get all over the place, I'm really not very good at it! I'm wondering if I'll start again and take a lot that I'm not sure about off. It's great all the same to hear from someone who is related, however far out that may be! Keep an eye on my tree incase I come up with something.

email mcveigh499@btinternet.com

Elaine

Hey Elaine, My Grandfather - Michael Morrin was the half brother of your mother Bridget. His mother was Nora Burke and father was Richard Morrin. Nora and Richard had 4 sons and 2 daughters (Michael - My grandfather, Patrick, Mary and Anne - I can't find the other 2 sons yet). My grandfather married Catherine Horan and had 5 children - my mother - Ann Morrin being the oldest. Take a look at the Gleason/Morrin tree and you will be able to see the rest. I think we pretty much have the same back info but if you are interested in the info after your grandmother.

Please contact me so we can share info. I sent you a message a few weeks ago but I guess you didn't get it. Maybe you will see this one.

Thanks,
Suzanne

Thanks for the connection to Butte, Montana. I have other lines of my family that went there as well. An excellent PBS TV program tells the story of Butte as a large mining town that brought great wealth to the mine owners from the labors of Irish miners who often emigrated directly from Ireland to Butte to work in the 1800's.
Do you have origins in Ireland for your "Chicago Prendergasts?" My Great-grandmother Catherine (Prendergast) O'Keane came from western County Mayo, in Accony and Kilgeever Parish, west of Westport and Louisburgh, where the church records also list many O'Grady's as well.

The Chicago Prendergasts ended when Thomas Joseph Prendergast died, leaving one child Jo Ann. Thomas Prendergast's Mother Johanna OGrady Prendergast ended up in Butte Montana as a school teacher for many years. Monica, Tom's sister married Ralph Olsen/Olson and they both stayed in Butte for life, I think there was another sister and two brothers,

We might have been in contact previously. Your "Prender4" name sounds familiar and I have been in contact with JLeder AT sbcglobal.net. Unfortunately, the Prendergasts are in my maternal line (my great-grandmother), so DNA testing is not functional. But, I agree wholeheartedly that DNA testing can provide a lot of good genealogical leads, as it did when testing was done on my O'Keane-Keane-Cain line.

My Prendergasts come from the Claremorris area. The study group I belong to is always looking for new male Prendergasts to be y-chromosome tested. Given the paucity of historical records, such a test might be a good option for you. Good luck.

WOW.... THIS THING ACTUALLLY WORKS AND I DID NOT EXPECT A REPLY THIS SOON.
HAAAA....

I ACCIDENTIALLY OMITTTED A POINT YESTERDAY. SOME OF OUR "PRENDERGAST" CLAN LIVED IN "CASTLE
MC GARRETT". IT IS A LARGE RUIN NOW, JUST UP ON A HILL IN MAYO.

MY COUSIN BOBBY PRENDERGAST FROM PHILA. HAS DONE SOME EXTENSIVE SEARCHES IN THE PAST.

APPARANTLY... OUR GRANDFATHER "JOHN" PRENDERGAST, A DECENDANT OF THE ORIGINAL "JOHN" PENDERGAST OF MAYO HAD 7 BROTHERS AND 1 OR 2 SISTERS. I THINK BOBBY TOLD ME THAT BOBBY TOLD ME THAT MOST OF THEM WERE BUTCHERS.

WE DID HAVE AN " GREAT AUNT CATHERINE" WHO WORKED FOR A PRIEST'S RECTORY IN LANCASTER, PA. SHE USED TO GO TO IRELAND 2X A YEAR AND BROUGH BACK IRISH LINENS. HER LAST NAME WAS "RICE". WE ALSO HAVE 2 OTHER "GREAT AUNTS AND UNCLES" IN VA AND NJ UNDER THE "FIELDS NAME".

BUT ALL THAT GETS CONFUSING, SO WE TRY AND STICK TO ON ECLAN/TRIBE. HAAA....

BOBBY PULLED UP A "GERALD PRENDERGAST" AS I STATED AND THEY HAVE CORRESPONDED.

I DID HEAR OF A PRENDERGAST CLAN OUT IN THE MID-WEST, CHICAGO AREA. IT IS KIND OF FAMOUS FOR BEING WRAPPED UP IN THE POLITICAL ARENA. I WENT TO SCHOOL W/TWO GIRLS, HELEN AND KAREN OF THE PRENDERGAST NAME. NO DIRECT RELATION.

I'M NOW TIED INTO THE MC CURTINS OF GALWAY. WIFE, DEIRDRE IS BORN IN GALWAY, FROM KILTALAUGH, JUST OUTSIDE OF LLOUGHREA, DUNSANDLE ESTATE, OTHER SIDE OF ATHENRY. HER MOM WAS FROM THE ISLAND OF ENNISH BOFFIN. HER MOM CAME FROM THE DAY FAMILY WHO OWN THE "DAY'S HOTEL" ON THE ISLAND. HE DAD WAS CHIEF CONSTABLE/DETECTIVE IN THE GARDA' IN THE LOUGHREA, ATHENRY, GALWAY AREA.

SORRY, A LOT OF INFORMATION....

THAT'S IT FOR NOW. KEEP IN TOUCH..... TAKE CARE.
Thanks for the feedback, Joe.
My Great-grandmother Catherine (Prendergast) O'Keane was born (circa 1821) and raised on the other side of County Mayo (west coast) in Accony (also Aghany & Aughany), west of Westport and Louisburgh, just before you get to Roonagh Point where the ferry boat takes you out to Clare Island in Clew Bay.
But her Prendergast line originally came from your Claremorris region in the very late 1700's by way of Murrisk Abbey, just below Croagh Patrick.
Your Claremorris area appears to be a real "hot bed" of Prendergasts. My line came to America in 1848 and settled in southeast Wisconsin by 1850. We lost track of Prendergast cousins in Chicago area.
Please do keep in touch if more info becomes available, as I will with you. THERE IS A "PRENDERGAST" SIGN ABOVE A SHOP IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE. JOHN PRENDERGAST, OUR G/F PASSED IN 1963 AND LIVED IN PHILA.,PA. WORKED FOR ARCO, TEXACO AND ON THE DOCKS.
Mary Prendergast c1795 Tipperary or Waterford

Mary Prendergast married Patrick Myles c 1815. They had 2 children that I am aware of: Bridget b 1816 and Thomas born 1819. Family lore states that Mary hailed from a gentry family from Co. Tipperary. Patrick and Mary lived in Clonacody until they lost the farm probably in the 1830s and were forced to move in with relatives in Gortacullen. The 1911 census indicates both a Myles and a Prendergast family living there at the time. I am unable to determine who Mary's parents are. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the link to the Prendergast DNA website.
Are you sure your grandfather was born in 1907 and not 1906?

See: http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/index.asp?id=30...

Ann

Yes, This is my Paternal Grandfather. Great news that your brothers are being tested, maybe you already know this but there is a Prendergast DNA Website: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Pendergraft-Prendergast-...

also there is an e-mail connected to the above link to pgary741@aol.com you may want to send him an e-mail concerning your brothers testing and joining our group. pgary741@aol.com has much knowledge that you may find interesting concerning Prendergasts and DNA.

Thanks again,
Ken

Was this your paternal grandfather? I have five
P(r)endergast brothers, a couple of whom are in the process of having their DNA tested by www.23andme.com.

Ann

Thank you Ann for your reply. I think my real hope will be through a male Prendergast and a DNA test or perhaps someone will stumble across a little line in a family album, etc.

Thanks for the information and the Welcome.

Ken

I don't have any specific information for you, but there are a lot of Prendergasts from Mayo County, Ireland in the St. Paul, Ramsey County, MN area and Minneapolis, Hennipen County, MN area. My P(r)endergast family (my grandfather dropped the first 'r'), believed to be from Mayo as well, and possibly connected to the MN Prendergasts, settled in Waukesha County, WI and moved to Milwaukee County in the early 1900's. My father was born in Milwaukee in 1913. He had several aunts and uncles but I never heard stories of any adoptions.

One possible link: My grandfather was the physician for an orphanage in Milwaukee and would have been familiar with the adoption process and couples looking to adopt. Let's just say if one of his unmarried sisters (my father's aunts) had a child, I'm sure he would have been able to quietly arrange an adoption.

The Gibbs family name is not familiar.

We're probably related. Welcome to the Prendergast family. :-)

Ann Pendergast Christman
