Hi Toadsgirl, (like the name) Great to have a cousin!
Thank you for responding to my message. Had no idea Caroline had so many beaus/husbands. None of those names are known to me. (love the stories & don't have many.) The few I have came from my grandmother, whose husband was one of Caroline Toulou's sons....she had 6, that I know of, with husband, Ed Warren. My grandfather was Alfred Warren. (She married F Mears years later...no children.) Caroline was Sophia Provo/Provost Toulou's (Emil) daughter. Albert Toulou, her youngest brother, 1873-1950. ....so your great grandfather & my great grandmother were brother & sister....right?
Any more stories about the Toulous would be MOST appreciated. I have no living family members to talk to anymore. Yikes! Definitely needed to start this search sooner.
Cheers. Bobbie

My great grandmother was Helen Perkins, she was married to Albert Christian Toulou. I have no information on Caroline other than possible husbands. I remember my mom saying she had been married several times, possibly to Harold Fredrickson, Theodore Stienmetz, and Richard simon. Josette was married to Michel LaFleur, no dates, no info on Mary, Nancy married a Wynecoop from the spokane Reservation, possibly John C., no dates, a;though my mom remembered it was quite the scandal because he wasn't from our reservation..so funny..Vitoire/Victoria married Joachim Marchand, was born 1875 inColville, Washington. died in 1939. Her children were/are Frank, Charles, Ben, Louis, sophie, Pete, and Amelia. ok lets see what I have on Emil...born 1873 died 1950..ugh..I need to organize my notes better!ok, i'm gonna have to do some digging, i know i have info on the Toulou side, just can't find it right now..so keep in contact, i will find it, and i hope i've helped you a little! Nice meeting you cousin!
Gina, am looking at a 2002 post re. Sophia Provo (Provost, Proveau.)
Sophia Provo and Emil Toulou are my great great grandparents also. (Married in 1861) Caroline Toulou is my great grandmother, born in 1861 (oldest of the seven children.) George was b1876 d1944.Julius b1869 d1922. Ancestry notes Sophia's sisters as Vitoria and Josette. Have not seen anything about Nancy or Mary. Who is your great grandmother? Are you still searching. Would love to find more about Emil Toulou: parents, siblings?....Actually any info about any of family. Am just beginning my search.
Hope to receive a reply from you. Thank you.
Bobbie (Roberta)

Yes , my grandpatents were fro canada and france, not sure when or wbic lineage traveled from france to canada but anyway, doing this for my dad to see if i get anywhere and my brother who jst started a family, as my father was born basically when his brothers were married and having children, his nieces and nephews are more like brothers and sisters, I am bot sure he knows that much about his parents past. His mother spoke mostly French in his presence with his father and he left home around the age of 14/15 and returned a couple years later a I understand he was kind of brought up by his oldest 2 brothers wives as they were in the military and away during tha time. He did reconnect with his family but anyway, more with his nieces and nephews who are his generation.

My Louis Prevot was born 5/9/1805 at Castillon-la-Bataille,Gironde,France. He departed 1/10/1834 Bordeaux,dept.Gronde,France. He arrived 4/5/1835 at the Port of Orleans. He married Melanie Gauthier 4/28/1834. He became a naturalized citizen in 4/22/1844 and applied for citizenship #66 4/22/1844. He is shown in the 1850 and 1860 census at still residing in Louisiana, Avoyelles Parish, Mansura and is buried at St.Paul the Apostle cemetery. I was able to find His son's burial site and it is listed on the "find a grave" website. Their surname is Prevot not Prevost. Louis and Melanie's children were Louisa, Marcelline, Celamire and Louis, Jr.. There could have been more children but these are the only one's I know. He owned hundreds of acres in Avoyelles Parish. His probate records were found in the archives.

Louis Prevot's parents were Pierre Prevot b1753 in Castillon-la-Bataille,Gironde,France and d 6/3/1816 in Castillon. His wife is Marie Armandie born 1769. If you have access to Ancestry.com my family tree is listed as "Rundell Tree".

My connection to Louis Prevot is that his daughter Louisa married Jean Fontanille also of Castillon-la-Batille and migrated to Avoyelles Parish. Upon her death he married Marcelline Prevot her sister. My great-grandfather Henri George Fontanille immigrated from Catillon-la-Batille. He was Jean's half brother. They shared the same father Joseph Fontanille. Henri also married one of Louis Prevot's daughters Celamire Prevot. So both Fontanille brothers married Prevot sisters. My maternal lineage is Joseph Fontanille - Henri George Fontanille - Ferrier Fontanille - Lillian Fontanille(my mother). Also, Pierre Prevot - Louis Prevot - Celamire Prevot. Celamire married Henri George Fontanille, my great grandfather. So the Fontanille/Prevot exists.

Yes, in later years some of the Prevots added "s" to the name but asfaras Louis is concerned he did not.

I am probably related to most of the Avoyelles Parish families. It seems the apples didn't fall far from the tree. I am also related to the Ducote's and the Laborde's. Check my tree out. You will find I tried to stick to direct descendents so one day I could finish my research. Checking out siblings it would go on and on without having a end in sight.
I hope this helps. Judy Rundell

PS Louis married Melanie in 1835 not 1834

If you search Louis Prevot not Prevost then click on the family trees you will see my family tree listed. There is also another family tree identified as the "Fontanille Tree" that has information on my Louis Prevot. The family of Louis Prevot was living in Castillon, France before his departure.

My Louis Prevot immigrated from France and settled in Louisiana. Avoyelles Parish inhabitants in the 1800s was mostly settled by French immigrants from France. Some were from Canada but mostly France. Louis immigrated through the Port of New Orleans. USA: MA, CT, NH before that CANADA, before that FRANCE and some from FRANCE left from UK so there is some anyway ... As I understand when the brothers which ever generation some ended up first in Canada and some at first in New Orleans.

Stephanie@StephanieFoxPrevost.com

Hi, my last name is Prevothey my father is Roland Prevost, his brothers Richard, AlfredAMA third brother I can't recall his name (horrible I apologize, and Rene. My father was born with much distance in years to his closest brother in age, Rene who was bthey more then 16 years before him. My father was closest to his eldest 2 brothers as far as i know, they were married when my father was a young child and had started famlies, as most of his eldest brother's children, his nieces and nephews, are closer in age to my father. their children are closer in generation to myself and my brother. I would much appreciate any information you may have on the Prevost family, as I also have some background and possibly newer information maybe I could offer to add, as my family is a little separated from my father's family, mostly due to generationsl gaps abd where life led and life events etc., His eldest brothers were in the military. Most current family is Massachusetts, Connecticut is where my father was born, his father as I understand moved or traveled from France to Canada where he met his wife, my meme, who past around the time of my birth - i may habe this backwards or may be a generation off, but i believe my great grandparents were from France and either they traveled over to Canada or my grandfather traveled over, none the less as my grandfather past when I was very young, my grandmother past around the time I was born. I am just remembering now over 100 years ago my fathers grandfather possibly was also Roland or his great grandfather I am bit sure, I do know there was a farm that brought produce to Boston by way of horse and carriage from NH possibly mistaken for Canada anyway this would have been around 1870, (Haymarket / Faniel Hall Market Place) a reason my father was drawn to Boston. I don't know much but possibly there is a link here.
Stephanie@StephanieFoxPrevost.com

I am sorry I am not clear? I may have some info... But as a Prevost I would be interested in your history or the Prevost history you have discovered.....

Hello Therese, Auguste & Valeda are my great Aunt & Uncle and you were right...They lived in South Junction, Manitoba, Canada. I Actually have the death marker they give out at the funeral homes and I was lucky enough to get it from my Aunt here in Ontario. If you wish for me to send it to you, you will need to email me so I can send it. I also have a lot of other collectables from the same family and my Grandparents are Ernest Edouard Desrochers & Alcyma Olive Desrochers-LaFrance who have both passed on.
About 20 years ago I published a Desrochers Family Tree Book and all the information came directly from the family as they were all alive at that time. I wish I had of published more than I did but I made a promise to the family that it would only be sold to them....sorry.
Anyways, my email address is ezduzitt@cogeco.ca and we will correspond from there from now on if thats ok with you.
Sincerely,
Donald Desrochers
P.S. Anyone else wishing information as well...just put Auguste & Valeda in the subject line so your email won't go into my junk mail. I will try my best to answer any questions.

Louis Prevot, Jr., son of Louis Prevot and Melanie Gauthier is buried in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, at St. Paul's cemetery in Mansura, Louisiana. The reason I know that is he is buried next to one of my ancestors Jean Fontanille. Jean Fontanille married Louis Prevot and Melanie Gauthier's daughter, sister of Louis Prevot, Jr. If you look up on find a grave there is a picture of their gravesites. Is this your Louis Prevot?

My 2nd great grand father also immigrated into New Orleans around the same time. His name was Peter Provost (1807-1862), or Provoste, Provo (as my grands said) and lastly Prevost. I understand they changed there name to Prevost in later years. They settled in the St. Tammany Parish area outside New Orleans. His children were Francis, Antoine (my great grandfather), Peter, Rebecca & William. I still have cousins in that area.

Were the Prevot and Prevost the same just different spelling? My Louis Prevot was born abt. 1805 according to Louisiana census records. He came to America through the Port of New Orleans in 1834. He became a naturalized American citizen in 4/22/1844 according to the U.S. Naturalization Record Indexes1791-1992(World Archives Project). He signed as Louie Prevot. In later generations an (s) was added to the name Prevot and it became Prevost. He married Melanie Gauthier 4/28/1835 in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. He died 10/29/1864 in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. His children were Marcelline, Celanire and Louis, Jr. I have created my ancestry tree through Ancestry.Com identified as "Rundell Tree" my email is juway1947@yahoo.com.

The only information I do not have is where he was born in France, I suspect he requested a passport at probably LaRochelle.

On another subject which ties to the Prevot name. My mother's maiden name was Fontanille. Her grandfather, Henri George Fontanille was born in Catillon, France. His parents were Joseph Fontanille and Jeanne Blanc. Jeanne Blanc was Joseph's second wife. His first wife was Francoise Prevot I have been furnished a death certificate on her dated 9/9/1827. The death certificate names her parents as Louis Prevot and Marie Armandille. I wonder if there is a relationship between these two Prevots? If you should have information on Francoise or my Louis, please share. I live in Louisiana.

No. My ancestor in Martin Prevost from Montreuil, a suburb of Paris. There were 9 Prevost and Provost who came to New France and there were at least 3 that came directly to the USA. Your ancestor would be another one.
Here at the Association we compile births, marriage and death of all Prevost and Provost in North America. Or at least the infos we can get.

Hi Judy.
I have the same question! Louis had a son Louis L. Jr who married Cleophine Ducote. (date and place unknown). They had a child Berthe who was raised by Nuns in French and had always spoke French. She married Moise Laborde and had children.
THat is all we have here at the Prevost and Provost Family Association and we would like to know more about your Prevot family.
Please contact me at provost-dube@sympatico.ca

Adrien Provost
St-Calixte, Quebec

My great-great grandfather Louis Prevot was born in France about 1805. He immigrated to America through the Port of New Orleans in 1834 and became a naturalized citizen in 1844. He resided in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, and later died there and is buried at St. Paul's in Mansura. He married Melanie Gauthier in Louisiana. I am trying to locate his point of origin in France. If anyone has that information and his parent's names, I would appreciate the shared information. Thank you, Judy
