I am interested in knowing if you have info on the Pricketts from Jefferson County-namely the family of Andrew Thomas "Mutt" Prickett who died in Burke county Georgia, early July 1991, and was buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Matthews Georgia. He was married to Agnes Lucille Stewart. I have no info on this line of my family, i.e. Origin, family history,-nothing.

Hi Rachell, I hope things are going well with you and you will soon be able to pick up on your dad's research. We have continued to plug away and have made good progress. We now have a new DNA match with 46 markers on Ancestry. I've been trying to contact him for several weeks now but no response so far. We have at least 6 DNA matches now going back several generations without a common ancestor yet. We are all stuck in the 1730-1795 time period, where your dad got stuck. Hopefully we will be able to solve the mystery soon.

I just located and purchased a copy of the Prickett book. The library of Lexington, KY had surplused the book and I bought from the Friends of the Library. I hope to have it by the end of the week.

I was in New York several weeks ago and had an opportunity to skim through the book Prickett's of Allerthorpe. A very interesting and detailed book. However, I was not able to draw any connection to the Zachariah and Josiah who came to America or any other reference to Pricketts coming to the New World.

I just learned that descendents of people who immigrated to America with William Penn's fleet are eligible for membership in the Welcome Society (Welcome was the name of Penn's ship). Those of you who can prove descendency to Zachariah or Josiah and can prove they were on the ship Amity in 1682, may be eligible for membership.

Hi Terry, Your earliest ancestor would be George Prickett, belived to be born in Va around 1735. There are several of his descendents around which should be able to help. I am related to George through DNA. My ancestors were probably cousins. George moved to North Carolina with my group then moved on to Georgia and Alabama. If you do not hear from one of the direct descendents, drop me a line and I'll put you in contact with them.

Her father was Wm.Nelson Hill b. 1887 d.? in WV
His father was Jasper Waitman Hill b. 1856 d.? in WV
His mother was Rachel T. Hill b. 1834 d. 1870 in WV
Her father was Isaac Hill b. abt 1800 d. ? in WV
Her mother was Jemima Prickett-Hill b. abt 1862 in WV
I do not know her ancestry line.

I don't think anyone has posted the book online. I heard that Mark Alexander may have access to a scanned version on CD. The original records were destroyed and the book is out of print.

I would love to have a copy myself. I understand it primarily covers George and his descendants. I am related by DNA.

I'm also looking for a copy of Pricketts of Allerthorpe if anyone has a copy.

Had a brother named George Tarpley Prickett who
also came to Oklahoma. I spent most of my child hood and
teanage years around these men. Joel was my mother's father.

Wiley John Jr was my great grand father. He lived in a small town in Texas which he named Tarpley, after his brother, son, and a judge in the area that he resected. He was the first postmaster there. In the early 1900's, he bought land sight unseen in New Mexico, and traveled there to set up a mohair goat farm. When he arrived, the land he had been "sold" was actually set aside for a school, and the family was left penniless. They eventually returned to Texas, but John had developed a deep depression, and was confined to the insane asylum south of San Antonio. He developed pneumonia according to the family; his death certificate states "gerealized paresis." He died in 1910. It is my understanding that Joel, in Oklahoma, was his brother, and the 2 of them were the only family that left Alabama. There are still Pricketts in Alabama, as you can see from some of the comments on this thread.

My grandfather was Joel Prickett and he died in 1975. Would like to know more about our line. My mother had the book on the Pricketts of Georga and Alabama but my father lost it. I just connected with Mary Lou in Oklahoma. Would love to hear from you.

I recently had my DNA tested by Ancestry.com and also became a member of Group 7, related to Zachariah and Josiah. My family comes from Bladen and Cumberland County NC. The earliest reference we have is to Gideon Prickett who is in Bladen as early as 1754. We believe he is married to Eley and has a son or much younger brother named Josiah. Josiah's wife is named Teresa. Any info is appreciated.

Rachel, I just spoke with your mother. I was sorry to learn of your loss. I just received my DNA results back from Ancesty.com and learned that I am a close match to your dad. I wish I had learned this a few months earlier. I hope to make a connection to your family. My Pricketts are from Cumberland and Bladen Counties in North Carolina. My match to your dad was nearly 100%, within 25 years.

The descendant of Capt Prickett test came in and he was definitely related to the Pricketts, Josiah and Zachariah, of NJ. We also have a descendant of a Gideon Prickett/Prichett of GA, who also is a related to the NJ Pricketts.

This Samuel that married Jane is the son of Nicholas that married Amelia Webster a descendant Frances Prickett Bailey gave information to my great aunt years ago. Nicholas that married Ann Catrina Kneopper known as Catherine Knapp was the son of Isaac Prickett that married Rachel and Rachel remarried after Isaac died to John Beasley.

If you would like to know more about the Pricketts and the origins of the George Prickett family you might want to take a look at these paternal lines. There are several Pricketts in the Pritchard ▪ Pritchett ▪ Prickett DNA Project. It appears that Zachariah and Josiah Prickett did in fact come from Gloucestershire, England. George Prickett has been yDNA confirmed to the NJ Zachariah Prickett line and currently there are two yDNA matching Pickett men with ties to Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. The Group also has an Australian Prickett that traces through Warwickshire. All in a area of about 50 miles in radius. The link is:

They are Family Group 7 and there is a male testing who is a direct descendant of Capt. Jacob Prickett known for Prickett's Fort in WV.

Thanks so much for responding. I would like anything you have on the Prickets, even to verify what I have found. I have some stuff on Wiley John. I believe that my accounts may be . . . mmmmm. . . a little more objective than Merry's. Would you like me to give you access to my tree? THen you can take anything there you do't already have. I remember Merry talking about the book (at least I think it was this book-she was very secretive about her research and now claims to have lost all of it.) Is it still in print? If so, how would I go about purchasing a copy? The more I work on this, the kind of scarier it gets. So many of my ancestors on both sides were in the same areas at the same time! I am hoping this will benefit my kids when they become interested!

Deborah, where do you live? My daughter knows a PRICKETT woman in San Antonio who is from England. When I go down to visit, I will try to go visit with her and see if she can tell me anything about the PRICKETTS in England.

I also am a decendent of George PRICKETT - Through his youngest son Joel, whose son Wiley John was my great grandfather, and his son Bailey Pharr was my grandfather and his son John was my father. My name is Mary Lou and I live in Cordell, Oklahoma. I am 81 years old and almost all of the PRICKETT'S I knew are gone. My niece has a copy of the PRICKETT book and has copied some of the pages of Joel's line for me. I will share if you will get in touch with me.
